A suspected illegal immigrant was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Escondido after a traffic stop, police said.
The man was stopped by a police officer about 5:30 p.m., said Lt. Mike Loarie. After he was stopped, the man took off running and the officer briefly chased him, police said.
The man was arrested in the 600 block of North Broadway after the suspect went down on the ground in front of northbound traffic. The officer had minor scrapes on his hands, Loarie said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were called when authorities determined that the man had a previous deportation order, Loarie said.
