ESCONDIDO -- A V-Day book reading will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Metaphor Cafe.

Participants will present readings on violence against women from the recently released "A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer," edited by Eve Ensler, author of "The Vagina Monologues."

The event is a fundraiser for the Center for Community Solutions, which works to create violence-free communities. V-Day events are held to raise awareness of domestic violence, said co-producer Chris O'Connor.

"(The essays) are all true stories that people have written about," said O'Connor.

A question-and-answer period will follow the reading. Suggested donation is $10. Food and drinks are extra. The cafe is at 258 E. Second Ave. Call (760) 727-3820.
