ESCONDIDO ---- Two teen bicyclists were injured about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when a driver swerved into their lane, said California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Newbury.
The boys, ages 14 and 13, were riding single-file westbound in the bike lane on Bear Valley Parkway, just east of Royal Crest Drive, when a tan-colored sport utility vehicle suddenly veered into the bike lane in front of them. The first boy swerved to the right and hit the curb. The second boy ran into the first and was thrown from his bike.
The driver stopped and asked if the boys were okay, but left after they requested help.
Both boys were taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment. The 14-year-old suffered multiple cuts and bruises to his right leg, arm, and shoulder. The 13-year-old had multiple bruises and a possible broken nose.
The suspect was described as a petite Latino woman with shoulder-length hair in a ponytail, acne scars on her face and a Spanish accent. She was last seen heading north on Royal Crest Drive.
Anyone who may have witnessed the event is encouraged to call Officer Mike Bush at the Oceanside CHP Office at 760-757-1675.
