ESCONDIDO ---- A SWAT team was called in Friday night to apprehend a suspected carjacker, armed robber and home invader in an apartment building.
It was unclear what led police to the suspect, who had barricaded himself in the building in the 1800 block of East Valley Parkway, Lt. Mike Laurie of the Escondido Police Department said. Police said the suspect has a history of gang-related violence and crimes outside the area.
No one else had been hurt and the building was being cleared of people, Laurie said.
Authorities reported that the suspect may have been trying to break down walls into the vacant apartment building next door.
Laurie said the Police Department was working in conjunction with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department to apprehend the suspect.
