ESCONDIDO -- A narcotics investigation led police to an Escondido mattress store Thursday, where the Police Department's Tactical Operations Unit served a search warrant and two people were arrested, according to officials.
The warrant was served at 10:45 a.m. at Ideal Mattress in the 600 block of Broadway, Lt. Bob Benton said. Unspecified drugs and a sawed-off shotgun were found inside the business, he said.
A witness who owns a business on the same block reported seeing four officers rush into Ideal Mattress with police dogs, take four people out of the store and into the alley behind the store.
Benton said the department's tactical unit was called in because investigators suspected the suspects may have been armed or violent. The warrant was served without incident, he said.
Initially, six people were detained, but only two were arrested Thursday, according to police.
Ideal Mattress owner Gabriel Hernandez, 43, Vista, was booked into the county jail on suspicion of possessing of a dangerous weapon, booking logs showed. Bail was set at $20,000.
Christina Carolina Acuna, 21, of Escondido and formerly deported by the Department of Homeland Security, was arrested and turned over the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents, police said.
No information was available about the drugs that were reportedly seized or whether anyone will be charged with a drug offense.
