The award was won in the student services category for Project SUCCESS, a program begun through the district's McKinney-Vento grant and directed by Michele Einspar. The program's goal is to provide homeless children with equal access to school and necessary services to ensure that they have the same opportunities to succeed in school as other children.

The Golden Bell Awards program promotes excellence in education by recognizing outstanding programs in school districts and county offices of education throughout California. The district will be honored during the 27th annual Golden Bell Awards program Dec. 2 in San Francisco.
