FALLBROOK -- Move over, Jack Bauer, a Fallbrook filmmaker has you in his sights with a parody of the hit counter-terrorism show "24."

A short film with the truncated title "10," the movie is being filmed at Fallbrook High School over three Saturdays this month, featuring dozens of actors and extras from North County and Southwest Riverside County.

The film's protagonist, "Jackie Brower," is a high school hall monitor trying to thwart a takeover attempt by students upset over an impending rule requiring uniforms on campus, said the film's writer and director, Bryan Caron.

"It's your basic terrorist plot," he said.

Starring Kiefer Sutherland as Bauer, "24" pits a fictional "Counter-Terrorist Unit" against villains intent on wreaking havoc and destruction on major U.S. cities. Written to unfold in "real time," the show reveals one hour of the plot at a time over 24 episodes.

Caron said Monday that he has enjoyed working at the high school where he graduated in 1996.

"I'm walking through the school, and start to remember," he said. "Some of it has changed, because I graduated right before the summer when they started construction on the new (buildings) and I hadn't been back since the construction."

The film is the second for which Caron has sent out a call for local talent. In January 2008, Caron's production company, Divine Trinity Films, filmed "My Necklace, Myself" at North County landmarks such as The Grand Tradition and El Camino High School using a cast of locals.

Caron, who lives in Murrieta, is a member of the nonprofit Fallbrook Film Factory, an affiliation that he said helped make it possible to film inside a public high school campus.

"I had to go to a couple of different people to get permission, but once we did, it was pretty smooth," he recalled. "The factory and the school have worked together on some other things."

But this is his first attempt at a parody.

"I thought it would especially be a lot of fun to try and get '24,' with all its editing and drama -- to copy that style, but make fun of it at the same time," Caron said.

In particular, the FOX counter-terrorism show is full of government-agent jargon that should be easy pickings -- if filmmakers can manage to penetrate the grid and reroute their coordinates.

In addition to about 35 actors -- eight or nine of whom have speaking roles -- Caron is also working with a 15-member crew behind the camera to capture footage at the high school.

One crew member, 17-year-old Devin Lawrence, said he attended Fallbrook High for two years, and was excited to be working on a film at the campus.

"We just finished a 12-hour day last Saturday," said Lawrence, who also filmed several hours of footage at the Fallbrook Film Festival last month as a member of the nonprofit film group.

"It was actually pretty fun, because I knew all the locations" at the high school, he said. "It made things easier. We just had a great time filming."

Caron said the finished product -- a 10- to 20-minute, action-packed film -- should be ready this summer.

"The whole point is to put it on the Web, maybe as the pilot of a new Web series -- to see how people react to it," he said. "If the reaction is good, we would look into trying to finance more episodes in the series."

He said a Web site dedicated to the film also will be launched this summer, and that he plans to submit it to several film festivals around the country.
