MENIFEE ——- School bus passes and tickets would escalate in price in the next academic year if the Menifee Union district trustees follow the advice given by administrators Tuesday.
The administrators proposed setting the price for an annual pass at $190, up from $170. A trimester pass, now $65, would jump to $75, and a per-ride cost would increase from 70 cents to 80 cents. The board is expected to vote on the proposed new rates in January.
The district spends about $1.38 million on transportation, of which $230,000 is collected from the sale of passes and tickets, said Dan Wood, Menifee Union's assistant superintendent for business. The district gets about $129,000 each year from the state. The district subsidizes the rest of the costs, Wood said.
Other recommendations delivered Tuesday include limiting or ending the practice of allowing new students to ride free for their first two weeks and eliminating all free field trips.
