Speed limits on five Murrieta roads will go up, mostly by 5 mph, but the majority of those reviewed by the City Council on Tuesday will remain the same, council members decided.
They unanimously approved an updated speed zone ordinance that will raise speed limits on the following roads: Avenida Acacias from Whitewood Road to Avenida Miguel Oeste will increase to 40 mph from 35 mph; California Oaks Road from Jackson to Hancock avenues will increase to 45 mph from 40 mph; Clinton Keith Road from Interstate 215 to Whitewood Road will increase to 40 mph from 35; Jefferson Avenue from Cherry Street to Corning Place will increase to 50 mph from 45 mph; and Los Alamos Road from Hancock Avenue to Ruth Ellen Way will increase to 40 mph from 30 mph.
New speed limit signs will be posted on various streets that currently have none, officials said. Those streets include Adams Avenue, Date Street, Hunter Road at Ruth Ellen Way, Madison Avenue, Magnolia Street, Mapleton Avenue, Mapleton Street, McElwain Road, Monroe Avenue and Nutmeg Street.
