Mary Haggett, 86
VISTA - Mary M. Haggett, 86, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, of natural causes.
Born Feb. 7, 1917, in New Bedford, Mass., she lived in Vista for 25 years. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Vista.
Mrs. Haggett was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Haggett, in 2002. She is survived by her son, Edward D. Haggett Jr. of California; daughter-in-law Debbie Haggett of Vista; and daughter Sharon Haggett of Vista.
A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Sister Madelyn Fitzgerald officiating.

Paul Moyryla, 81
FALLBROOK - Paul A. Moyryla, 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003.
Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Franklin Mine, Mich., he lived in Fallbrook for 28 years. He retired after 40 years as a machinist for Hadco Engineering in the City of Commerce and Borg-Warner Manufacturing in Temecula. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of the Rainbow Community Church and the Rainbow Grange.
Mr. Moyryla was preceded in death by his wife, May C. Moyryla; and daughters Mary R. Mallett and Ella M. Johnson. He is survived by his brothers, Matt Moyryla and Uno Moyryla, both of Michigan; sisters Helen Kuivanen of Michigan, and Eleanor Sandelin of Colorado; grandchild Lynn; two great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary with the Rev. Stan Wujek officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.

Louise Yuss
ESCONDIDO - Louise Elizabeth Yuss died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at her home.
She was born in Chicago and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, the local Widow and Widower's Club and the Escondido Elks. She enjoyed social gatherings, cooking, baking, traveling and holidays.
Mrs. Yuss was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Stanley J. Yuss, on July 5, 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Weis of Escondido; and grandchildren Tammy Wood and Jamie Weis.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Church of the Resurrection, 1445 Conway Drive in Escondido with the Rev. Ed Bernardino officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Edwin Ferguson, 87
SAN MARCOS - Edwin James Ferguson, 87, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at his home.
Born July 2, 1916, in West Monroe, N.Y., he lived in San Marcos for 28 years. He retired after 35 years as a chief in the Syracuse Fire Department in New York. He served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years as a seaman and chief storekeeper. He was a member of the Meadowlark Community Church and the New York Retired Firefighters Association.
Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife, Neta Ferguson of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Doug Kean of San Simeon; and granddaughter Amy Arroyo of San Diego.
Private family services are planned. Private inurnment will take place at Meadowlark Community Church.

ENCINITAS - Carol Ann Berris, 63, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at an Encinitas hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1939, in Long Island, N.Y., she lived in Encinitas for 31 years.
Mrs. Berris is survived by her husband, George of Encinitas; son Anthony of San Anselmo; brother Eric Eno of Greensboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Private services were held. Inurnment will be at Glen Dyberry Cemetery in Honesdale, Pa.

Leroy Hampton, 80
OCEANSIDE - Leroy Hampton, 80, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003.
Born Oct. 1, 1922, in Russellville, Ark., he lived in Oceanside for 20 years. He retired in July 1983 from Kaiser Steel. He retired in 1960 after 20 years in the U.S. Navy, where he received two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.
Mr. Hampton is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lena Hampton of Oceanside; and sisters Oleta Johnson of Templeton and Betty Ruth Schouweiler of Glendora.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel with the Fleet Reserve Association officiating. His cremains will be scattered at sea.

Mrs. Segovia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tencha Nieves of Carlsbad; daughters and son-in-law Anna and Manuel Rodigo of Fair Oaks and Betty Shoup of Vista; brothers Pete Trejo of Vista and Ruben Trejo and Henry Trejo, both of Carlsbad; sisters Grace Woodard of Oceanside and Ruth Henderson of San Bernardino; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

ESCONDIDO - Lucinda Mae Gilley, 78, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, of cancer.
Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Roanoke, Ill., she lived in Escondido for 16 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Gilley was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Dean Gilley, on June 6, 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Art and Wendy Brown of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Lauri and Lazo Spasoski of Escondido; brothers and sister-in-law Wayne and Phyllis Clanin of Marion, Idaho, and Clifford Clanin of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren Dan, Dawn, Jaime, Dena, Natasha, Bo, Jonathan, Mishael and Jason; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will take place at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, where her cremains will be scattered.

RAMONA - Frederick William Hanssler, 86, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 21, 1916, in New York. He was a real estate broker. He was a Rotarian in the Ramona area for 50 years.
Mr. Hanssler is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Hanssler of Ramona.
Services will be held at a later date. A private cremation is planned.

Sydney Notkin, 85
SAN MARCOS - Sydney J. Notkin, 85, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at his home of lung cancer.
He was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Montpelier, Vt. He retired in 1973 from Rockwell International. He served on the San Marcos Planning Commission and was a leader in the community.
Mr. Notkin is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joyce Notkin of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Terry and Roy Martinez of Placentia; sister Helen Morrell of Chula Vista; grandchildren Alex and Kelly; and three great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.

RAMONA - Fran Finn, 54, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at her home of ALS.
Born Sept. 17, 1948, in Queens, N.Y., she lived in Ramona since 1988. She was a new homes sales agent. Previously she was a sales agent and co-owner of Cedar Creek Investment Co. in Mammoth. She graduated from Queen's College with a teaching credential and a master's degree in education. She was a member of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Ramona.
Mrs. Finn is survived by her husband of 27 years, Bob of Ramona; sons Michael, Jeffrey and Ryan, all of Ramona; brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Joan Szalay of Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law Mickey Himes of New Jersey, Joan and Jerry Tavolott of New York City and Tina Szalay and George Hoffman of Maine.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Ramona.

RAMONA - Chuck Byron III, 42, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003.
Born Jan. 12, 1961, in San Diego, he lived in Ramona since 1995. He was a wildlife and offshore artist for 20 years. He served four years in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He was a member of Grace Community Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Byron is survived by his wife, Lori Byron of Ramona; mother Nancy Byron of San Diego; son Chuckie Byron IV of Ramona; daughter Elizabeth Byron of Ramona and sister Michelle Roben of San Diego.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Aug. 29, at Grace Community Church in Ramona. Private interment will be at Dearborn Memorial Park.

POWAY - Frederick Louis Eveland, 71, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in La Jolla.
Born Sept. 19, 1931, in Bronx, N.Y., he lived in Poway for 33 years. He graduated with honors from UCLA College of Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Jaycees, Boy Scouts and the Church Parish Council. He raced in Transpacific yacht races and was a member of the Transpacific Yacht Club.
Mr. Eveland was preceded in death by his son, John Foster, in 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Eveland of Poway; sons and daughters-in-law Richard of Poway, Thomas of San Diego, David and Melanie Carey of Escondido, Michael and Lisa Velazquez of Temecula, and Christopher and Karen Lynch of Del Mar; daughters and sons-in-law Katharine of San Diego, Patricia and Paul Diaz of Poway, Helen and David Engel of Rancho Santa Fe, and Joanna and Joel Cochran of Poway; and grandchildren April, Richard, Alicia, Shelby, Daniel, Michelle, Stephanie, Elisabeth, Julianne, Brad, Brian, Patrick, Brennan, Connor, Allison, Dylan, Nicholas, Tyler, Jason, Daniel and Emma.

FALLBROOK - Ardyth Louise "Artie " Lattimer, 71, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at her home.
Born Oct. 1, 1931, in San Diego, she lived in Fallbrook for 59 years. She was a homemaker. She volunteered at the Angel Society Thrift Shop. She was a fan and cheerleader for Fallbrook High School.
She enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Mrs. Lattimer was preceded in death by her husband, William Ervin Lattimer, on Feb. 21, 1995.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Pauline Lattimer and Michael and Lucinda Lattimer, all of Fallbrook; daughters and sons-in-law Lynne and Larry Carroll of Post Falls, Idaho, and Erin and Bill Bright of Fallbrook; brother and sister-in-law Eugene #"Bud" and Barbara Swearingen of Fallbrook; and 12 grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE - Windy Tupelu Mataafa, 43, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
Born April 10, 1960, in Twentynine Palms, he lived in Oceanside all his life. He was an assembler for ACDC Electronics.
Mr. Mataafa was preceded in death by his mother, Tu#'u Mataafa, in 1964; and sister Pau Mataafa in 1972.
He is survived by his father, Tupelu Mataafa of Las Vegas; brothers and sister-in-law Tupelu Tupelu Jr. of Las Vegas and Richard and Lisa Mataafa of Temecula; sisters and brothers-in-law Tuiolelago and Rev Semu Sega of American Samoa, Vaivasa and Harold Williams of Las Vegas, Barbara and Lopati Tauanu'u of Alaska, and Uatea and Ieti Silva and Siaopo and Manu Lutu, all of Vista; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth W. Rowell
Kenneth W. Rowell, 75, of Valley Center, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2003. Mr. Rowell and his wife, Dru, had been married nearly four yeas and enjoyed their home and life together.
Born in Wewoka, Oklahoma, he came to California in the early 1950s, and applied his knowledge and experience working at Kenton Equipment, Webb Pump & Supply, and Pacific Coast Welding. By demonstrating his creative talents over a long career as a mechanical engineer, he retired in 1998 as consulting engineer to Hyperbaric Technology Inc. in Chula Vista.
Mr. Rowell was a member of the Lemon Grove Masonic Lodge 736 F&AM, the Escondido Elks Lodge and the Escondido Moose Lodge.
Mr. Rowell was a kind and caring man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Drucilla; stepdaughter Cheryl Van Atta; and sisters Norma Rowell and Carol Grogg and their families. His first wife, Wanda, preceded him in death in 1988.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, August 29, at McLeod Mortuary in Escondido. Interment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido at a later date.
Krista Madsen
VISTA - Krista Madsen, 38, died Monday, August 25, 2003, at her home.
Born November 27, 1964, in Oceanside, Calif., she was raised in Carlsbad and lived in Vista for the last 15 years. Krista graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1982, attended Palomar College and graduated from the University of Arizona, in 1987, where she was a member of the Wildcat softball team. She was a homemaker and was active in her children's activities, her church and BSF.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Virgil B. Hood and Benjamin F. Long. Krista is survived by her husband of 15 years, Lynn Madsen; her daughters Laurel, Blair and Logan; her parents, Fred and Charla Boodry; brother Glen Boodry; and maternal grandmother Bea Hood, all of Carlsbad; paternal grandmother Ada Long of Oceanside; aunts Barbara Stone of Oceanside, Marshia Matthews of Riverside and Debi Long of San Diego; six cousins and many wonderful friends.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Riverview Evangelical Free Church, 4980 Sweetgrass Lane, Bonsall, CA 92003. Interment will follow at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery in Oceanside.
