Daniel Ganeles, 76
CARLSBAD - Daniel Ganeles, 76, died of cancer Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Glenbrook at La Costa Glen in Carlsbad.
Born March 10, 1930, in Newark, N.J., he lived in Carlsbad for 18 years. He retired in 1985 from the University of Albany in New York. He was an executive at Loma Santa Fe and captain of the Ambassadors. He was a member of the New York Association of Continuing Education.
Mr. Ganeles was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorrie Ganeles, in 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jean Calandra-Ganeles of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Diane Ganeles of Albany; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Joyce Ganeles of Long Island, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Pacific Ocean. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. Contact celebrelife@yahoo.com for information.

OCEANSIDE - Anna Lea Vincent, 82, died of Alzheimer's disease Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, in Vista.
Born Oct. 26, 1924, in Missouri, she lived in Oceanside for 47 years. She worked at Sears in Carlsbad.
Mrs. Vincent is survived by a son; three brothers; one grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.

OCEANSIDE - Elias Tellez, 58, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006.
Born Aug. 9, 1948, in Durango, Mexico, he lived in Oceanside for 38 years. He was a member of the local 89 Labors Union.
Mr. Tellez was preceded in death by his wife, Angelina Tellez, in 2004.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Antonio and Natividad Gutierrez of San Marcos, Juan Ramon Gutierrez of Oceanside and Saul and Tara Tellez of Valley Center; daughters and sons-in-law Estela Gutierrez of San Marcos, Miguel Blanco, Ana Maria Gutierrez, both of Rancho Penasquitos, Joe and Angelina Franco of Vista and Maricella and Jaime Diaz of Sun City; Teresa and Enrique Santana, Maria De Jesus Gonzales and Augstin Gonzales, all of Mexico; brother and sister-in-law David and Lupe Tellez of Mexico; sisters Maria Cle Jesus Tellez of El Monte and Ester Felicano Lopez of Oceanside; 24 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

George Farr, 65
RANCHO SANTA FE - George "Chuck" L. Farr, 65, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, in Greenwich, Conn.
Born March 27, 1941, in Portsmouth, Va., he lived in Greenwich and Rancho Santa Fe. He was chairman of Muirhead Holdings, LLC in Greenwich. He was former vice chairman of American Express from 1995 to 1998, and director and chairman of the shareholders committee of McKinsey and Company. He was appointed to the IRS oversight committee by President Clinton in 1999. He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Farr is survived by his wife, Pamela A. Farr of Greenwich and Rancho Santa Fe; sons Randal Farr of Boston, Eric Farr of Jacksonville, Fla., and Brian Bronk of Gales Ferry, Conn.; daughters Jessica Farr of Greenwich and Tamara Kerigan of Rancho Palos Verdes; and nine grandchildren.

VISTA - Ottis Lee Acrey, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, in Oceanside.
He was born April 20, 1929, in Buckeye, Ariz. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Salinas.
Mr. Acrey was preceded in death by his wife, Dutchess Acrey; son Herman Acrey; and grandson Stabley Kent Acrey.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Suzan Acrey of Glendale, Ariz., and Steven Acrey of Vista; daughters Jeanie Dees of Springville and Shirley Stratton of Vista; brothers and sisters-in-law Loyd Acrey of White City, Ore., Don and Twila Acrey of Springfield, Ore., and Lynn Acrey of Cottage Grove, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Born Dec. 11, 1921, in Aberdeen, Miss., she lived in Escondido for 50 years.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Jones, in 1994.

VISTA - Alice V. Finley, 89, died of congestive heart failure Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, in Omaha, Neb.
Born Dec. 12, 1916, in Maywood, Ill., she lived in Vista for six years. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Vista, St. Paul's Church in Tucson, Ariz., and Platte Woods Methodist Church in Missouri.
Mrs. Finley was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil A. Finley, in 1981.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Carol Finley of Omaha, Neb.; daughters and son-in-law Ginger and Gary Shreve of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Mary Lou Finley of San Diego; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchild.

GRESHAM, Ore. - Helen M. Blair, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in Portland, Ore.
Born Nov. 23, 1915, in Swea City, Iowa, she lived in Gresham for 18 years. She lived in Oceanside from 1959 to 1989. She retired in 1979 as a secretary and bookkeeper.
Mrs. Blair was preceded in death by her husband, Kern E. Blair, in 1985.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Kay and Gary Storm of Oceanside and Joan and Bruce Moody of Gresham; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

CARLSBAD - Katherine H. Cannon, 80, died of cancer Monday, Nov. 9, 2006.
Born March 9, 1926, in Los Angeles, she lived in Carlsbad for 40 years. She retired in 1991 from Control Data Corp.
Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by her son, Kevin C. Cannon, in 2004.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David Cannon of Carlsbad, and Daniel and Patti Cannon and Michael Cannon, all of Oceanside; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Jimmy Rathburn of Oceanside; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Born March 29, 1955, in Los Angeles, he lived in Carlsbad for 14 years. He retired in 2004 as a physician for Medical Group of North County.
Dr. Dana was preceded in death by his brother, Karl Dana, in 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Rita Dana of Carlsbad; mother Janet Dana of Kaneohe, Hawaii; father and stepmother Leo and Jane Dana of Carlsbad; sons Maxwell Dana and John Dana, both of Carlsbad; and sisters and brothers-in-law Deborah and Keith Richman of Northridge, Jennifer Dana and Bob Orso of West Covina, and Diane and Damon Bell of Kaneohe.

OCEANSIDE - G. Ralph Dials, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006.
Born Jan. 21, 1920, in Portsmouth, Ohio, he lived in Oceanside for 22 years. He retired in 1985 from the Institution of Shipboard Education. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a captain in the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Dials is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sybil Dials of Oceanside; daughter and son-in-law Deborah A. and Robert Cowden of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law Michael A. and Diane Dials of Lafayette, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law Randolph and Kathleen Dials of Wheelersburg, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

WILDOMAR - Freida Jane Iberg, 93, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006.
Born Dec. 14, 1912, in Brunswick, Mo., she lived in Wildomar for 19 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a Braves fan and enjoyed music and dancing.
Mrs. Iberg is survived by her daughters Betty McDermott of Murrieta and Jane Hagus of Las Vegas; stepdaughter, Barbara White of Illinois; sisters Peggy Vausbinder of Lawrence, Kan., and Dixie Wood of Desert Hot Springs; and 13 grandchildren.

Curtis Tankersley, 50
TEMECULA - Curtis Arthur Tankersley, 50, died of the injuries he sustained in an automobile accident Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006.
He was born Jan. 8, 1956, in Sacramento. He worked at Sodexho Services for seven years as a senior manager of safety and health, Rocky Mountains Southwest Coast Region and Hawaii. He was a police officer for Modesto Police Department for 11 years. He was director of loss prevention for Marriott Hotels for eight years and worked at Zurich Services as a senior risk analyst for three years. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a degree in criminal justice.
Mr. Tankersley is survived by his wife, Wendy Tankersley of Temecula; daughters Sarah and Katelyn; parents Arthur and Leona Tankersley; and brothers and sister-in-law Guy and Karen Tankersley and Eric Tankersley.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Rancho Community Church, 31300 Rancho Community Way in Temecula.

Brian Cahill
Brian Joseph "B.J." Cahill, 22, of Encinitas, passed away at his home and was received into the loving arms of our Lord on Wednesday, November 8, 2006.
Brian was a student at Mira Costa College and was employed at T.E.R.I. Inc., where he was a caregiver and found great joy working with developmentally disabled adults.
Brian's interests included film making, poetry, art and music. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving parents and family: John and Debbie Cahill of Encinitas; his brothers, Tom and Michael Cahill.

ESCONDIDO - Cleo Sylvia Nelson, 67, died Tuesday, November 7, 2006, after a short battle with cancer.
Born October 23, 1939, in Bell, California, she grew up in Westchester, California. After raising her family in Simi Valley, she traveled for five years with her husband and settled in Escondido, California, for the last four years.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Nelson, in June 2004.
She is survived by her mother, Esther Regets; daughter and son-in-law Sam and Gary Lauber; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Julie Nelson; son Bob Nelson; brother and sister-in-law Jon and Kathy Lethin; grandchildren Danielle, Simone, Whitney and Billy; and great-grandson Pacey.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, November 14, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Cabrillo Memorial Drive on Point Loma in San Diego.

Orrin E. 'Bud' Burwell

Born in Casper, Wyoming, Bud graduated from the University of Wyoming, Class of 1942. He served in the Army Air Force in WWII and Korea, retiring as a Lt. Col. USAF Reserve in 1967. Employed by Carrier Air Conditioning Corp from 1946 to 1982, Bud retired as government relations rep. A lifetime member of Pacific Coast Gas Association, a former member of the American Society of Gas Engineers, the Guild of Ancient Supplers, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers. Bud was a past president of the Retired Officers Association, Joseph H. Pendleton Chapter, a former member of the Military Order of the World Wars, past president of Holy Name Society, St. John Catholic Church, Encinitas.
He is survived by his wife, Edie; son Robert and wife Barbara; granddaughter Erin Fox and husband Chris and great-granddaughter Amber.

James C. Shultz
Jim Shultz passed away peacefully on October 31, 2006. He was born in Wimbleton, North Dakota, on the family wheat farm on December 12, 1920, to Lewis and Clara Shultz. He grew up in Charles City, Iowa, where the family had lived for generations. In 1939, after high school graduation, he came to Fallbrook to manage a relative's ranch in De Luz. He met the love of his life, Delta Lackey. They married in Yuma in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until August of 1946. He returned to Fallbrook, bought a ranch, worked for Sunkist until 1950 and then worked for the USMC at Camp Pendleton as manager of the electronic data processing center until retiring in 1978.
He was a longtime member of the Fallbrook Lions Club and served as the eleventh president. He also served on the board of the Fallbrook Sanitary Board for several years as well as being president two terms. He and Delta were founding members of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook.
Upon selling their avocado ranch in 1978, they moved to Valley Center to a full life of golf, bridge, fishing, traveling, dancing, entertaining and church work. He and Delta were charter members of St. Stephen's Parish in Valley Center. Jim was active in the Skyline Ranch Country Club and served as president one year. He was proud to have sunk seven holes-in-one.
Besides his family, his other love was farming. Jim's fruit was the best. He always had a bag of avocados, oranges, tangerines and lemons for family, friends and neighbors. He will be remembered as a very kind, loving and generous man.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Delta; son Jim Shultz Jr. of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Stanford Borenstein also of San Diego; and two granddaughters, Leslie and Laura Borenstein.
A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Valley Center.
