Joseph Bratezani, 81
TEMECULA -- Joseph "Joe" Bratezani, 81, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in Hemet.
He was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Jerome, Ariz. He was a teletype assembly and repair man for AT&T and retired in 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7734 in Pico Rivera and Post 3049 in Temecula. He enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Bratezani is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan Bratezani; daughters Linda Henderson of Fullerton, Denise Dulaney of Aguanga and Debbie Donaldson of Texas; sisters Julie Feierabond of New Mexico, Rosemarie Camper of Pico Rivera; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Private inurnment is planned.
The family suggests donations to a hospice of choice.

Theodore Araiza, 73
VISTA - Theodore Araiza, 73, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.
Born Feb. 24, 1934, in Vista, he lived there all his life. He was an operating engineer with R.E. Hazard Construction for 35 years.
Mr. Araiza is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rita Araiza of Vista; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Deborah Araiza of Vista; and sisters Mary Araiza Lopez and Consuelo Araiza Martinez, both of Vista.
The rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. and Mass celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Vista with the Rev. David Sereno officiating.
Private inurnment will he held at a later date at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery in Oceanside.

Donald Redding, 73
LILLINGTON, N.C. - Donald W. "Fossil" Redding, 73, died Monday, March 5, 2007, at his home.
A native of Southgate, Calif., he served in the U.S. Army. He was employed in construction and by the trucking industry until he retired in 1994.
Mr. Redding is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Redding, of Lillington; sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Nicole Redding of Dunn, N.C., and David and Kathy Redding, Donald and Kim Redding, Bill and Tracy McKinley, all of Lillington; daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl and John Winegardner and Janice and Tom Lally, all of Lillington; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Westview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kevin Haynes officiating.

Matthew Novosel, 48
OCEANSIDE - Matthew Mark Novosel, 48, died of natural causes, Tuesday, March 13, 2007.
Born Jan. 5, 1959, in Tucson, Ariz., he lived in Oceanside 10 years. He was disabled.
Mr. Novosel was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Novosel.
He is survived by his mother, Cathleen W. Herrera of Oceanside; son Demetre Novosel of Cripple Creek, Colo.; and sister I. Taree Slandfill of Poway.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.
A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Ernest Souza, 80
CARLSBAD - Ernest Vieira Souza, 80, died of cancer, Monday, March 5, 2007, at his home.
Born Jan. 16, 1927, in Falmouth, Mass., he lived in Carlsbad for 30 years. He was a member of the Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1947. He graduated from John Muir High School in Pasadena. He was a business owner of Neptune Seafood and Solvang Danish Pastries from 1953 to 1974. He retired from real estate sales.
Mr. Souza is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lila Souza, of Carlsbad; sons and daughters-in-law Frank and Vilma Souza of Santa Rosa and Mathew and Linda Souza of Tigard, Ore.; daughters and son-in-law Mary Souza and Ann Marie and Mike Easterling, all of Oceanside, and Sara Souza of Santa Rosa; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held on March 18, officiated by the Rev. Steve Grubbs. A private cremation is planned.

Richard O'Neil, 75
CARLSBAD - Richard R. O'Neil, 75, died from a heart attack Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas.
Born May 30, 1931, in the Bronx, N.Y., he lived in Carlsbad.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a captain and was the chief of pediatrics at Nellis Air Force Base.
He received a BS degree from Columbia University in New York, and a medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
He was in private practice at Tri-City Pediatrics and served as Chief of Staff of Tri-City Hospital and Medical Center. He was a pediatrician with Scripps Clinic San Marcos. He retired in 1997.
He served on the Carlsbad School Board for five years. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside.
Dr. O'Neil is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth O'Neil; daughters and sons-in-law Cyndie and Michael, Carolyn and Roger, Beth and Larry, and Richard Jr. and Laura; five grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Wilbur Jr. and Paulette and William and Ruth.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Christ Presbyterian Church, 7807 Centella Street, Carlsbad (760) 753-3290.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Salvation Army in your area in his honor.
Alice Ferguson, 89
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Alice B. Ferguson, 89, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
Born March 4, 1918, she lived two years in Phoenix, previously in Valley Center since 1963.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her son, Bert B. Keller of Phoenix; daughter Judith Miksell of Santee; and two granddaughters.
Private memorial services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 1. A private cremation is planned.

David Pollard, 51
POWAY - David Charles Pollard, 51, died Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Born May 7, 1955, in Oxnard, England, he lived in Poway for 28 years. He was a motor sports technician, and was known as Dr. Shock. He served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed off road racing and golf.
Mr. Pollard is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Pollard of Poway; daughter and son-in-law Erin and Paul Sweeney of Poway; and twin grandsons Cole and Jack Sweeney of Poway.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Private cremation is planned.

Judge Adkins, 77
OCEANSIDE - Judge Paul Adkins, 77, died Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Born Oct. 10, 1929, in Sarah Ann, W.Va., he lived in Oceanside for 38 years. He retired in 1993 after 21 years as a teacher for the Oceanside Unified School District. He served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sharon L. Adkins; daughter Pamela McCall of Virginia; stepdaughter Debra Hilsabeck of Temecula; sons Michael Adkins of Idaho, and Johnnie Adkins of Virginia; sister Gladys Kirk of Arizona; brothers Johnnie and Jack Adkins of Florida; and six grandchildren.
Private services are planned with interment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Melvina Hilton, 95
ESCONDIDO - Melvina Belle Hilton, 95, died Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Born Feb. 12, 1912, in McDonald, Pa., she lived in Escondido for 18 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Escondido Joslyn Center. She enjoying playing bridge and bingo at the Joslyn Center.
Mrs. Hilton was preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Hilton, in 1996.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Fred and Geri Hilton of Escondido and Gary Hilton of Torrence; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Interment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park in San Pedro.

Richard R. O'Neil, MD
1931 -- 2007
Richard R. O'Neil, MD, FAAP, died unexpectedly at the age of 75 from a heart attack on March 21, 2007, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas.
Richard was born in the Bronx, New York, on May 30, 1931. He was the youngest son of Salvation Army officers. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University in New York, in 1953, and received a medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1957. Richard completed his internship and residency in pediatrics in 1960 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. From 1960 to 1962, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain and was the Chief of Pediatrics at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nev.
He began his career in private practice in 1962 at Tri-City Pediatrics in Oceanside, California. From 1987-1988, Richard served as Chief of Staff of Tri-City Hospital and Medical Center. He was a pediatrician with Scripps Clinic San Marcos from 1988-1997. He retired in 1997. Richard was elected to the Carlsbad School Board from 1973-1978 and was president for three of those years. During that time, he was most proud of the fact that he presented all four of his children with their high school diplomas. Richard served as an Elder at The First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, California.
He was a faithful and beloved husband of 52 years to his wife, Ruth, wonderful and loving father and friend to his children, Cyndie (Michael), Carolyn (Roger), Beth (Larry), and Richard Jr. (Laura), much-loved "Pop Pop" to his five grandchildren, Karl, Emily, Katy, Meghan, and Tommy, dear brother of Wilbur Jr. (Paulette) and William (Ruth), and uncle to many nieces and nephews. His family was his greatest joy and he will be greatly missed.

Donald George Fellars
On March 26, 2007, Donald George Fellars, 72, passed away due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Fellars of Vista; his mother, Lucille Fellars of La Mirada; and eight children - Allyson, Tim, Todd, Jennifer, David Max, Dan, Donnie and C.J. He is also survived by one son-in-law; five daughters-in-law; and 10 grandchildren.
Don was born in Monterey Park, Calif., and lived in the Los Angeles area until 1972, when he moved to Vista. From 1954 to 1957, he served as a missionary in Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Don graduated from USC dental school in 1962, and practiced dentistry in North County since 1971. In 1963, he married his sweetheart, Mary McKeon, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He was serving as bishop of the LDS Church's Vista 10th Ward at the time of his passing.
Don's personal interests were wood turning, travel and garden railroads. But his greatest love was his family. He lived by the motto: "No other success can compensate for failure in the home." He spent his life teaching his children about Jesus Christ, rarely through sermons or lectures, but instead by a lifelong example of quiet service and kindness to others. His parting words to his family were, "Never suppress a kind thought."
Funeral services will be held at the LDS chapel, 1545 S. Melrose Drive, in Vista at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 2. All who desire to attend are welcome. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a philanthropic donation at www.ldsfoundation.org.
