OCEANSIDE - Rosa Maria Ramos, 56, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at San Diego Hospital.

Born May 7, 1950, in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, she lived in Oceanside for 12 years. She lived in San Diego for two years previously. She was a mess hall attendant at Camp Pendleton for six years.

Ms. Ramos is survived by her son, Alexander Soler of Antioch, Tenn.; daughters Abigail Ramos of San Diego and Alexandra Soler of Bay Shore, N.Y.; nine sisters; and seven brothers.

Services and burial will take place in Jayuya, Puerto Rico.

Dale Powell, 88

FALLBROOK - Dale Cody Powell, 88, died of natural causes Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006.

Born Oct. 28, 1918, in St. Louis, she lived in Fallbrook for 30 years. She was a homemaker. She was a past president of the Assistance League of Escondido Valley, a member of the Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary and the St. John's Anglican Church Altar Guild. She was recognized by the Philanthropy Council as 2000 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.

Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Powell, in 2001. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Melinda P. and Charles Alvord of Fallbrook and Deborah Evans of Mesa, Ariz.; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial is planned.

James Sayrahder, 90

VISTA - James Edward Sayrahder, 90, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007.

Born July 19, 1916, in Rochester, N.Y., he lived in Vista for one year. He lived in Carlsbad for 49 years previously. He was a crane operator for more than 20 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Oceanside Elks Lodge.

Mr. Sayrahder is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Sayrahder of Vista; sons Jay Sayrahder of Tucson, Ariz., Robert Sayrahder of Bakersfield and Ted Sayrahder of Arlington, Wash.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Mill and the Oceanside Elks officiating.

Virginia Garbo, 90

RANCHO BERNARDO - Virginia Olive Garbo, 90, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, in San Diego.

Born Oct. 24, 1916, in Wisconsin, she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 50 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and ceramics.

Mrs. Garbo is survived by her husband of 50 years, Walter Garbo of Rancho Bernardo; son Robert Garbo of Glouster, Ohio; daughters Linda Garbo of Seattle and Donna Bartels of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Jan. 11, at St. Michael's Church, 15546 Pomerado Road in Poway.

Glen Liddle, 88

VISTA - Glen Edward Liddle, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, in Oceanside.

Born Aug. 19, 1918, in Walsh, N.D., he lived in Vista for 21 years. He was a carpenter for Baker Oil Tools Inc. for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Liddle was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margeret Liddle, in 2002. He is survived by his son, Stephen Liddle of Vista; daughter Leslie Liddle of Washington; sister Alice Henry of Locust Grove, Va.; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, is handling arrangements.

William Zontine, 86

VISTA - Dr. William Joseph Zontine, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007.

Born Dec. 30, 1920, in Chandler, Colo., he lived in Vista for 18 years. He was a veterinarian for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a veterinarian and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Soldier's Medal. He later served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of the Church of St. Thomas More in Oceanside.

Dr. Zontine was preceded in death by his wife, Ione Constance Zontine, in 1997. He is survived by his sons, Lee Zontine of Richmond, New Zealand, Donald Zontine of Clinton, Wash., Dennis Zontine of Turlock and Chris Zontine of San Jose; sisters Marianne Sotack of Littleton, Colo., and Joann Marranzino of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Church of St. Thomas More in Oceanside. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the Church of St. Thomas More. Inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma is planned. Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Erik Lund-Jensen, 71

POWAY - Erik Lund-Jensen, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007.

Born July 23, 1935, in Denmark, he lived in Poway for 44 years. He was a bus driver. He enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Lund-Jensen is survived by his wife, Hanne Lund-Jensen of Poway; son Kynan Lund-Jensen of Poway; daughter Mia Neuschwander of Poway; brother Egon Lund-Jensen of Denmark; sisters Grete Hansen-Hoffman of Logan, Utah, and Inger of Denmark; and three grandchildren.

Private cremation is planned.

Martha Johnson, 93

ESCONDIDO - Martha Ann Johnson, 93, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Escondido Care Center.

Born Oct. 26, 1913, in Rose, Okla., she lived in San Diego County for 48 years. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church, taught Sunday school and had a Bible study in her home.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Donald T. Johnson, in 1974.

She is survived by her sons, Earl E. Johnson and James T. Johnson, both of Escondido; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Jan. 11, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Stephen Johnson officiating.

David Eckert, 56

JOSHUA TREE - David Charles Eckert, 56, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007.

Born March 17, 1950, in Rochester, N.Y., he lived in Joshua Tree for three years. He lived in Escondido previously. He was a truck driver for Escondido Ready Mix for 20 years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart. He enjoyed muscle cars, boating, the outdoors and Elvis music and collectibles.

Mr. Eckert was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pauline Eckert; and sisters Charlotte Kluey and Wendy Eckert.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Eckert of Joshua Tree; sons Chad William Eckert of San Marcos and Shane Allen Eckert of Camp Pendleton; brothers Roger Eckert of Canandadauiga, N.Y., and Herbert Eckert of Escondido; and sisters Linda Eckert of San Marcos, Peggy Verger of Renton, Wash., and Edith Crawford of Rochester.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at San Marcos Cemetery, 1021 Mulberry Drive in San Marcos with the Rev. Philip Vos officiating.

Nancy Hart, 88

SAN MARCOS - Nancy Rose Hart, 88, died from complications of a broken hip Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born Sept. 24, 1918, in Vancouver, Canada, she lived in San Marcos for four years.

Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her son, John Hart.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Tom Hart of San Marcos; daughters Jean Hart Gillette of Carlsbad; and two grandchildren.

A private cremation is planned.

The family suggests donations to a charity of choice.

Peter Frank, 62

VALLEY CENTER - Peter Anthony Frank, 62, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007.

Born June 29, 1944, in Fort Bragg, N.C., he lived in Valley Center for five years. He retired in 2005 as a director of information technology for Eastern Software and Accredited Home Lending of San Diego. He enjoyed photography and computers.

Mr. Frank is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cindi Frank of Valley Center; sons and daughter-in-law Aaron and Jen Frank of El Segundo and Brian Frank of Los Angeles; mother Julie Frank of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and one grandchild.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 2960 Canyon Road in Escondido.

A reception will follow at the First United Methodist Church, 341 S. Kalmia St. in Escondido.

William Montgomery IV, 44

OCEANSIDE - William Wesley Montgomery IV, 44, died of a heart attack Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007.

Born Jan. 30, 1962, in Boulder, Colo., he lived in the Oceanside and Carlsbad areas all his life. He attended Carlsbad High School from 1976 to 1980.

He was a coach for girls softball and basketball at the Boys & Girls Club in Fallbrook.

He was in Surf Magazine. He was a member of the World Wide Surfing Association and the Bass Club. He enjoyed surfing, fishing and hanging out with his family and friends.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 14 years, Lori Montgomery of Fallbrook; parents Ranel and William Montgomery of Chico; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Laura Montgomery of Fallbrook; daughter and son-in-law Maile and Dan Virgin of Vista; brothers Robert, Tim, David and Paul Montgomery; and one grandson.

Burial at sea is planned.

A memorial service is pending.

The family will notify friends and family when services are arranged.

Ronald Roundtree

Beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, friend and fisherman, Ronald Wayne Roundtree, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 6, 2007, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born July 16, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, and moved to North Hollywood, where he went to North Hollywood High School, and lived for many years in the Los Angeles area. He moved with his family to Oceanside in 1981 and lived in the same house ever since. He worked in the flooring business for most of his life, everything from installing to selling. His greatest passions however were his family and fishing. He was so passionate about fishing that, along with his son, Jason, he began a clothing line for fishermen called "Stay Bent."

Helping guide him to heaven is his father-in-law David Dubin. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Ellen Roundtree; daughter Jamie Werner and husband Adam of Carlsbad; son Jason Roundtree and wife Lisa of Oceanside; mother Robbie Roundtree of Tulare; aunt Inez Owens of Granada Hills; brother Bill Roundtree and wife Cathy of Tulare; mother-in-law Harriet Dubin of North Hollywood; uncles and aunts Al and Nancy Cohen of Sherman Oaks and Richard and Jan Watson of Mexico; granddaughters Gianna Marie and Lily Michaela of Oceanside, granddaughter Ava Grace of Carlsbad; and many other friends, family and fishermen, who shared in the joy of his life.

The memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2007, at the Oceanside Marina Suites in the Oceanside Harbor. Scattering of ashes will be a private family service to be held at a later date.

Joseph Thomas Scamporino, 40

FLORIDA - Joseph T. Scamporino, 40, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006.

Born Oct. 6, 1966, in Torrance, Calif.; although he resided in Florida, he was a one- time resident of Oceanside and Venice Beach, where he grew up.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, 1985 to 1989, and achieved a rank as a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class and also served as ship Medic. He enjoyed spending time with his family, baseball, flying, riding his Harley and listening to music. He also wrote a book of which he was quite proud. Joseph had a funny sense of humor and made those around him laugh with his quick wit.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Mariangela Scamporino; and their two children, Nicole and David and his eldest daughter, Sophia; parents Patrick and Linda Gomez; and his sisters, Doreen, Cindy, Aida and April; and brothers Shaun, Matthew, and Mark.

A Naval Honors ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Jan. 11, at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in San Diego followed by a memorial service from 3 p.m to 4 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Discovery (RSI) located at 560 South Melrose Drive, Vista, CA 92081, with Rev. Brian Andersen officiating. Family and friends will join in fellowship immediately after services.

Marjorie Belle Spice

July 30, 1918 - January 6, 2007

Marjorie went to be with our Heavenly Father in the late hours of January 6th while her family surrounded her bedside. Marjorie was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Alfred Spice in 1941 and celebrated their 65th anniversary last June. They moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 1944, and in 1959, moved to Garden Grove, California.

In 1968, they moved to Poway, California, when Alfred became the Pastor of Grace Trinity Church. Marjorie spent her adult life serving our Lord and Savior. She was helpmate, wife, chauffeur, and mother of seven, while supporting her husband in his ministry. Together, while serving at Grace Trinity Church of Poway, they founded Cornerstone Christian School.

Marjorie joyfully served as kindergarten teacher of Cornerstone Christian School from September 1969 to June 1983, when she retired. She had the privilege of teaching many of Poway's children the basics of reading and writing as well as introducing many, many children to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Dr. Alfred Spice of Poway, California; daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Roger Stafford of Escondido, California; daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Archie Legge of Pliny, West Virginia; daughter Doreen Hanke of Yakima, Washington; daughter and son-in-law Gloria and J.D. Bias of Poway, California; son and daughter-in-law James and Shila Spice of Hemet, California; son and daughter-in-law John and Susan Spice of Little Rock, Arkansas; foster son and wife Paul and Anita Wallick of Houston, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 3 foster grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two foster great-grandchildren.
