LAKE ELSINORE -- William A. Starkey, 94, died of natural causes, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Canyon Hills in Orange County.
Born July 27, 1911, in Garden Grove, he lived in Lake Elsinore for 25 years.
Mr. Starkey was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Starkey, Dec. 28, 2002. He is survived by his son, William Starkey Jr. of Lake Elsinore, and daughter, Shirley Chaplin of Orange, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

FALLBROOK -- Sandra Holcomb, 57, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.
Born March 15, 1948, in Palo Alto, she lived in Fallbrook for two years. She enjoyed going to the casino and Laughlin.
Mrs. Holcomb was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Hoosier, in 2003; sister Donna Wikoff; and brother Richard Cline. TEMECULA -- Patricia Ann Tuccinardi, 72, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Rancho Springs Medical Center.
Born Oct. 21, 1933, in Los Angeles, she lived in Temecula for 10 years. She was a member of the Assistance League of Temecula Valley and enjoyed traveling, bowling and family vacations.
Mrs. Tuccinardi is survived by her husband of 49 years, Philip Tuccinardi; sons and daughters-in-law and Christine and William Fullerton, Gene and Kimberly Tuccinardi, John and Mary Tuccinardi and Robert and Lili-Ann Tuccinardi, all of Temecula, and Steve and Erin Tuccinardi of Mission Viejo.

ESCONDIDO - Marian Eckford Peet, 90, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born May 28, 1915, in Escondido, she lived there all her life. She was a dietician for Palomar Medical Center for 35 years. She was a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church and participated in Bible clubs. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Ms. Peet is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith and Elenore Peet and Russell and Elaine Peet, all of Escondido; an many nieces and nephews.

RANCHO BERNARDO - Elizabeth Maitland Hubbard, 67, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at her home.
Born Dec. 18, 1938, in Potsdam, N.Y., she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 15 years. She was a junior high school teacher. She graduated from Michigan State University. She was a member of the International PEO Sisterhood; and the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church, where she served on the Women's Board and Altar Guild. She was a member of the Assistance League of Escondido, the Bernardo Gardener's Club and the Questers. She enjoyed antiques, flower arranging and music.
Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Hubbard of San Diego; son and daughter-in-law Robert B. and Jennifer Hubbard of Montpelier, Vt.; daughter Elizabeth G. Hubbard of Chicago; sisters and brother-in-law Emily and Charles O'Brien of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Nancy B. Degnan of Northwood, N.H.; and grandchild Auden.

CARLSBAD - Doyle Eugene Fant, 56, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005.
He was born Aug. 19, 1949, in St. Louis. He retired in May 2000 from Pacific Bell/SBC. He was a member of the North Coast Church, where he was a worship leader and a growth group leader.
Mr. Fant is survived by his wife of 35 years, Bonnie Fant of Carlsbad; sons Doyle Fant Jr. of San Diego and Dustin Fant of Rancho Cucamonga; daughters and sons-in-law Merideth and Rick Gash of Canyon Lake and Tiffany and Bryan Hellum of Beaverton, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law Don and Delia Fant of Rancho Cucamonga; sister and brother-in-law Juanita and Jim Wyatt of Oceanside; and grandchildren Geoffrey Gash, Kyle Gash, Jonah Fant, Jade Fant, Odin Hellum and Bjorn Hellum.

ESCONDIDO - Evelyn E. Solorzano, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born June 23, 1923, in Wilmington, she lived in Escondido for four years. She retired from Long Beach School District.
Mrs. Solorzano was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Solorzano, May 3, 2003.

William Winterstein, 88
OCEANSIDE - William Winterstein, 88, died of natural causes, Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, in Fullerton.
Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Los Angeles, he lived in Oceanside for 40 years. He retired in 1966 from the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served from 1936 to 1966. He did three tours of duty in Vietnam and served in World War II. He was a member of the Oceanside Elks Club.
Mr. Winterstein was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy G. Winterstein, Oct. 9, 2005; and daughter Georgia L. Gammell in 1989.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wayne Fontana of Buena Park; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Burial at Eternal Hills Memorial Park is planned.

Joseph Mastin, 87
VISTA - Joseph Grabiner Mastin, 87, died of congestive heart failure, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at his home.
Born May 5, 1918, in Chicago, he lived in Vista for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the Invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the camps. He was wounded twice. He was a bookmaker, a milkman, an artist and an engineering draftsman. He helped design missile silos at Edwards Air Force Base. He played the guitar by ear and sang. He enjoyed dogs and cats.
Mr. Mastin is survived by his former wife of 59 years, Irene Spencer of Vista; daughter Jeanne Barney of Hollywood; a son and a daughter-in-law; granddaughter Mary Jo; and two great-grandchildren.
Private cremation is planned.

VISTA - Alex Micu, 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at his home.
Born March 4, 1926, in Detroit, he lived in Vista for 51 years.
He retired after 22 years from the Vista Unified School District. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, during World War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a gunnery sergeant in 1974.
Mr. Micu is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Micu of Vista; sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Delora Micu of Vista and Michael and Linda Micu of Anza; brothers and sister-in-law Dan and Marie Micu and John Micu; sister and brother-in-law Veronica and Nick Dithomoso; grandchildren Beth, Aaron, Cassandra, Mandy, Nicholas, Shadow and Brian; and six great-grandchildren.

VISTA - Florence "Corinne" Kline, 82, died of a stroke and renal failure, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Sept. 15, 1923, in Plainview, Texas, she lived in Vista for six years.
She received a bachelor's degree from Long Beach State College and then received a master's degree. She taught home economics at West High School in Torrance from 1962 to 1988.
Mrs. Kline is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Linda Kline of Bellevue, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law Claudia and James Gough of Vista; sister and brother-in-law Sarah and Ray Swofford of Scripps Ranch; grandchildren Tamrah, Christopher, Tiffany and Sabrina; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Rancho Vista Retirement Community in Vista. Private inurnment is planned.

SAN MARCOS - Erica Ida Wesarg Wiskosky, 86, died Dec. 10, 2005.
Born March 2, 1919 in New York, she lived in San Marcos for 37 years.
Mrs. Wiskosky was preceded in death by her husband, John Wiskosky in 1968. She is survived by her four children; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister; and two brothers.
Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005. Her ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of Oceanside on Dec. 16, 2005.

Shirley McLaughlin, 79
POWAY - Shirley Frances McLaughlin, 79, died on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005.
Born April 14, 1926, in Boston, she lived in San Diego County for 43 years. She worked for the county of San Diego for 30 years in many different departments, including the courts and the Department of Social Services. She was an actress and appeared at many theaters including the Old Globe in San Diego. She enjoyed traveling, solving puzzles, and playing cards and chess.
Mrs. McLaughlin was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Aeneas McLaughlin, in 1985; daughter Nancy in 1953; and brother Bobby Bowes in 1990.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Kate McLaughlin of Portage, Mich., Stephen and Deborah McLaughlin of Poway and Sean McLaughlin of San Diego; daughters and sons-in-law Karen Gray of San Diego, Susan Smith of Florence, Ky., and Cheryl Ann and Antonio Cordero, Kim Louise Zahoransky, Donald Schwartz, Laura Jean and Gary Bryant, Leesa Mary and Kim Smith, all of San Diego; brothers Richard of Dorchester, Mass., and Edward Bowes of San Diego; sister Nancy Murray of Sandwich, Mass.; sister-in-law Marie Smith of Weymouth, Mass.; 27 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
There was a celebration of life on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at the San Diego Christian Worship Center. Associate Pastor Mike Williams officiated. A reception followed. There will be a private scattering at sea.

SOLANA BEACH - Gary Lee Garner, 64, died Wed., Dec. 28, 2005 in Oklahoma City.
He was born Sept. 26, 1941 in Chickasha, Okla.
Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Cleo Garner and Ed and Pearl De Hart; father Leo R. Garner; father-in-law Al Sharp, and daughter-in-law Stephanie Teddy Garner.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Sharp Garner of Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law Grant and Michelle Garner of Portland, Ore.; son Glen B. Mable McCrory, 104
CARLSBAD - Mable Holgate McCrory, 104, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005.
Born Sept. 23, 1901, in Caldwell, Idaho, she moved to Pasadena in the early 1900s, where she graduated from high school and worked at Kresses Five and Dime.
She moved to Escondido about 1948, and owned an orange and avocado grove near the Teepee. She moved to Carlsbad in 1970 to be near her sister.
After her husband's death she lived alone until she was 99 years old.
Mrs. McCrory was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick McCrory, in 1970.
She is survived by her sister, Alta Ackerman of Carlsbad; two nieces; and two nephews.
Services will be private.
Harold Baker, 81
ESCONDIDO - Harold James Baker, 81, died of pulmonary fibrosis on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at his home.
Born July 11, 1924 in Hartford, Conn., he moved to Escondido in 1937 and graduated from high school in 1942.
He served in the U. S. Army, 405th Fighter Squadron during World War II. Later he worked in his family's sewing machine business in Escondido.
He sold life insurance, then worked in the retail shoe business from 1958 until his death. He enjoyed traveling, camping and telling stories.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A Baker and Jean V. Baker-Nori; his brother, Robert W. Baker; and his son, Bob Baker.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosemary Baker or Aptos; daughters and sons-in-law Sue and James Crow of Eureka and Debbie and Javier Andrade of Davenport; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Gwenda Baker of Freedom; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There was a celebration of his life on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Twin Lakes Church in Aptos.

ESCONDIDO - Fara Vitale, 106, died Sun. Dec. 25, 2005 in Glassboro, N. J.
Born in Sicily in 1899 she came to the United States in 1920. She worked as a seamstress and became a citizen in 1940. She started the St. Gerard Society in Camden and Glassboro.
Mrs. Vitale was preceded in death by her husband Pietro and son Frank.
She is survived by her daughter Josephine Di Michele of Escondido; granddaughter Rosemary Patterson and her husband Ken Patterson also of Escondido; and Christopher Di Michele, Peter Vitale and Fara Iaconelli; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

James Davis, 24
OCEANSIDE - James Carroll Mayo Davis, 24, died of brain cancer Sun. Dec. 18, 2005.
Born Oct. 17, 1981, in Oceanside, he attended El Camino High School and was a member of the Wildcats football team. He also played hockey for the San Diego Junior Gulls.
He joined the U. S. Navy shortly after Sept. 11 and served aboard the USS Essex for three years.
Mr. Davis is survived by his parents, Pat and James. O. Davis of Oceanside; girlfriend Minora Kida; sister Erica, and brother John and grandfather Wilbur Murphy.

VISTA - Gloria Eblacas Duran, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at her home.
Born April 23, 1917 in Honomu, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Guadalupana Society, the Cursillo Movement (De Colores), Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Office of Special Minister of the Eucharist. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, square dancing, luau, cooking, baking and gardening. She won a blue ribbon at the Del Mar Fair for her cherry guava jelly.
Mrs. Duran is survived by her husband, Lloyd E. Duran of Vista; son Roland F. Duran of Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Jim Booth of Phoenix, Annette and Jerry Knox of Vista, and Christine and Pat Razalan of Vista; sisters and brother-in-law Marcelina Sison of Vista and Agnes and Al Smith of Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Lorin McCown, 93
OCEANSIDE - Lorin "Lou" S. McCown, 93, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005.
Born Nov. 5, 1912, in Beatrice, Neb., he rose through the ranks to become a captain in the U. S. Army in the 134th Infantry Regiment, First Battalion. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star for leadership in combat.
After retirement he became a pressman for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner for nearly 30 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Oceanside Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite.
Mr. McCown was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel McCown. He is survived by his wife, Verna McCown; daughter Carol Strasheim; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Linda McCown; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Carlsbad Community Church, with a reception following at the Officer's Club, Camp Pendleton.

FALLBROOK - William McGee, Jr., 52, died after a lengthy illness on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Born Feb. 22, 1953, he attended Fallbrook Union High School. He enjoyed mechanical work and was skilled in his trades.
Mr. McGee was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie Oline Carlson McGee.
He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Becky Carlson of Salt Lake City; sons Timothy A. ESCONDIDO - Virginia Eldridge Snyder, 95, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005,
Born May 27, 1910, in Scranton, Pa., she moved to La Jolla and graduated from Francis E. Parker School in 1929. She attended the University of Oregon in Eugene and studied art at Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles and the San Diego Academy of Fine Arts. She worked as a commercial artist for San Diego department stores and jewelers. Later she worked in the records department of San Diego County Hospital, the probation department of Juvenile Traffic and the Office of the County Recorder. She was an astrologer, palm reader and wrote poetry.
Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. and Emma Snyder; sister Barbara Wickler; and brother Robert Snyder Jr. She is survived by her sister, Mary West of Escondido; nieces Mary Lou Baird of Vista, and Wendy LaRiviere of San Francisco.

Philip was born in Orange, California, on March 28, 1954, and grew up in Anaheim. He was a graduate of Anaheim High School, class of 1972. Philip continued his education at Cal State L.A. earning his Bachelors Degree in Fire Protection and Administration. He later earned his Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership at Chapman University in Orange, California.
Philip always said he wanted to marry Deborah Bennington and become a firefighter. He and Deborah were married on November 11, 1978. In 1980, he was hired by the Chino Valley Fire Department to serve as a firefighter.
Within 5 years, at the age of 31, he became the youngest man in Chino Valley Fire history to promote to Captain. In his 21 years of service, he rose in rank to Deputy Chief and began teaching Leadership at Azusa Pacific University. Philip's dynamic career was complete when in 2001 he was promoted to the position of Fire Chief for the City of Murrieta.
His greatest joy was when he became a father. His eldest daughter, Kathryn Rose was born in August of 1981, his youngest daughter Erika Anne arrived in May of 1984, and his son Nicholas John arrived in September of 1987.
His devotion, participation and pride in his children's lives were evident to all who knew him. Philip and his family have resided in Yorba Linda for the past eleven years.
In addition to being a dedicated public servant, a respected leader and devoted husband and father, Philip was an entertainer. His music brought joy to thousands of people over the years. His sense of humor and fun loving personality touched everyone. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and his son's number one football fan.
Philip is survived by his wife, Deborah, his children, Kathryn, Erika and Nicholas, his son-in-law Jeremy, brother James "Coker" and sister-in-law Sandy Armentrout, his sister Julie and brother-in-law David Verberg and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his extended family of firefighters.
A celebration of Philip's life will be held Thursday, January 5, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at The Vineyard Church, 5340 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim Hills, Ca. 92807. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to:

Frank W. DeVore
March 16, 1928 - December 29, 2005
Frank DeVore was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 1928. Frank's father died at an early age. As a result of his father's death, Frank had to leave school while in the eighth grade to help support his mother and two sisters.
Frank came to San Diego as a navy cook in 1946. He met Lillian (Tillie) Tombaugh at the downtown USO. At the time of his death, they were married 59 plus years. Frank and Tillie resided in Rancho Bernardo, Calif.
Upon serving his hitch in the Navy, Frank went to work for the San Diego Gas & Electric Company as a ditch digger, earning 92 cents per hour. Frank retired from SDG&E in 1984 after 37 years with the company. He retired as Vice-President of Governmental Affairs.
After retiring from SDG&E, Mr. DeVore formed his own company, Frank DeVore Consulting." According to all who knew him, he was very successful working for and advising such national companies as Westinghouse, General Electric, Hood Corp. and CH2'M Hill.
Frank was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. Frank's hunting excursions covered most of the Northwest United States, Canada and Northwest Territories. he traveled extensively to fish in the Western United States, Canada and New Zealand. In 2004 he caught the largest brown trout of his fishing career in Argentina, weighing in at 24 pounds!
In later years, Mr. DeVore gave up hunting and turned to golf. he said, "When ya get too old to see what's over the next mountain, give it up!" He never gave up fishing. As a matter of fact, he was fly-fishing in New Zealand just three week prior to his passing.
Above all else, Frank was a devoted family man. He was happiest when smoking a good cigar with a glass of scotch in his hand, surrounded by his family and friends. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Camping trips, backyard barbeques and family gatherings were enjoyed often. Words cannot express just how much the family will miss this loving husband and dad.
Mr. DeVore is survived by his wife, Tilllie; two daughters, Susan Palmieri (David) and Nancy Murry (Darryl), four grandchildren, Ashley, Jason, Nathaniel and Kendall. All who reside in the San Diego area. In addition, he is survived by his two sisters, Marion Otthofer (Herb) of Millersville, Pa., Kathleen Runk of Elkhorn, Wis.; his stepbrother, Richard Charles (Joyce) of Eugene, Ore., and stepsister Janet Herman (Harry) of Columbia, Pa.; sister-in-law Beaddie Johnson of Missoula, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service is being held on Friday, January 6, 2006, at the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m., 17010 Pomerado Road, San Diego, CA 92128. Featheringill Mortuary of San Diego is handling the cremation.

Luther Wallace, 94
VISTA - Luther Burbank Wallace, 94, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.
Born Oct. 23, 1911, in LaFayette, Ore., he lived in Vista for 78 years. He was an agriculturist and retired from civil service at Camp Pendleton in 1976. He was a 70-year member of the Community Church of Vista, where he participated in the groups and activities. He was a volunteer firefighter and a member of the Vista Historical Society.
Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his sisters, Lily and Martha; and brother James. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julia Wallace of Vista. He was the beloved uncle of John Marshall of Vista, Carol Asker of Alameda and Jan Kimball of Nevada City; and great uncle of Jason, Ben and John Kimball.
Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the New Community Church of Vista with the Rev. Dr. David Needham officiating.
Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Ronald Paul Buscher
Ronald Paul Buscher, 39, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at UCSD Medical Center in San Diego. He was born on October 14, 1966, in Oceanside, California.
Ron was a 1984 graduate of Carlsbad High School and attended Palomar College. He was a former flight attendant for U.S. Airways.
He is survived by his parents, Joe and Anita Buscher of Carlsbad; sisters Midge Gorgueiro of Carlsbad and Kathy LeMay of Oceanside; brothers Jim Buscher of Carlsbad and Tom Buscher of San Diego. He is also survived by his aunt, Marilyn Loftus of Santa Barbara and by five nephews; three nieces; two great-nephews; and two great-nieces.
Mass will be celebrated on January 5, 2006, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3821 Adams St. in Carlsbad. Private interment will be at Eternal Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Nature Conservancy or the American Liver Foundation.

Mildred Steinert
Mildred V. "Mickey" Steinert passed away on December 25, 2005, at her home in Oceanside, California. Born on August 2, 1920, in Chanute, Kansas, Mickey had lived in Oceanside with her husband, Arnold, for over 21 years.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Arnold Steinert of Shattuck, Okla. Mickey is also survived by her son, Ronald Steinert of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; her daughter, Marla Macartie of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and grandchildren Casey and Chris Hebert of San Diego, Calif., and Brenna Steinert of Washington, D.C.
Services were held on Dec. 30, 2005, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, Calif.
Her strength, love of life, and endless energy will be missed by her family and those whose lives she touched.
Thomas 'Tom' G. Fields
Thomas "Tom" G. Fields, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.
Born December 23, 1930, in Gadsden, Alabama, he lived in Vista for 45 years.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired in 1969. He saw active duty in Korea and Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He graduated from Palomar College in 1972 and attended San Diego Business College. He retired from the civil service in 1991. He had a great love of God, country, family and friends.
Upon retirement he discovered the joy of golf, enjoyed his volunteer work with the Highway Patrol, and was always an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven Thomas Barron, February 9, 2005.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Fields of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Rebecca and Dr. Robert Barron III of Oceanside, Cynthia (William) Erickson of Taylorsville, Utah, and Stephanie and Michael Erickson of Riverton, Utah; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Douglas McGilberry of Saraland, Alabama; brother Robert Fields of Sunnyvalle, Calif.; grandchildren Robert III, Matthew and Nicole Barron, Matthew, Christopher, Jennifer and Jonathon Erickson, and Heather, Katie, Michael and Kellie Erickson; great-grandchildren Harlee, Taylor and Natalie.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Eternal Hills Chapel, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.
He will be buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. with full military honors.

Sam Kleinman, 86
FALLBROOK - Sam Kleinman, 86, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at Kaiser Zion Hospital in San Diego from Complications of congestive heart failure.
Sam was born September 10, 1919, in Russia. He escaped to America with his parents in the early 1920s.
Sam grew up in New York. As a youth he worked as a vender in Yankee Stadium.
Sam served in the military in Europe in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.
After leaving the military service, Sam settled in Los Angeles, where he owned and operated liquor stores until 1977, when he moved to Bonsall, Calif. Sam owned and operated Bonsall Liquor Mart from 1977 until he reitred in 1991.
Early this year Sam moved to the Regency Fallbrook in Fallbrook, Calif., which he very much enjoyed.
He is predeceased by his former wife, Catherine Kleinman; and his 10 brothers and sisters. Sam had no children.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2006, at 4 p.m. at the Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary Chapel in Fallbrook, Calif.
Pauline Larsen, 90
OCEANSIDE - Pauline Elizebeth Larsen, 90, died of congestive heart failure, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005.
Born July 27, 1915, in Imperial, she lived in Oceanside for 65 years. She operated and maintained a controlling interest in the family business, Larsen#'s Steel Fabrication Inc. for 10 years.
She was salutatorian of Oceanside High School, in 1933. She received a bachelor's degree in library science from UCLA in 1939. She was a member of the North Coast United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, the Pythian Sisters, Women in Construction, the Oceanside Women#'s Club, the Boy#'s Club of Oceanside, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, the Boy Scouts of America, and the California Republican Party.
She was the Blade Tribune's Citizen of the Year in 1973. She was a docent of the Oceanside Heritage Park. She was a member of the American Field Service, PTA, YMCA and Friends of the Library. She was on the Mira Costa Junior College Advisory Council.
Mrs. Larsen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Fredrick Larsen, in 1966.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ruby Larsen of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Phyllys Palmer of Oceanside, Carroll and Ken Hickok of Crown Point, Ind., and Elaine and Mark Regan of Oceanside; sister Virginia Tyler of Julian; grandchildren Denielle, Harold, Jeremy, Clifford, Christine, Stacie and Derek; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the North Coast United Methodist Church in Oceanside. Private inurnment is planned.
