Michael Savino, 85
OCEANSIDE - Michael Thomas Savino, 85, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007,
He was born July 2, 1921, in Jamaica, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a combat pilot during World War II in the south Pacific and in the Korean War. He retired in 1963 with the rank of major.
He was an engineering test pilot for Northrup Aviation and joined Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical in 1967 as manager of mobile aerial target units.
He enjoyed golfing and was a recreational softball umpire for many years.
Mr. Savino is survived by his wife of 40 years, Aiko Savino of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Michael Thomas Savino Jr. and his wife Lori from Escondido and John Michael Savino of Diamond Springs; daughters and sons-in-law Adrienne and Terrin Durfey of Vista, Vicki and Peter Pasquale of Milford, N.H., and Patricia Ann Savino of El Paso, Texas; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
The Trident Society of San Diego is handling arrangements.
Gladys Phillips, 89
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah - Gladys Lucille Phillips, 89, died of natural causes, Friday, March 23, 2007.
Born Aug. 9, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., she lived in Pleasant Grove for one year. She studied one year at UCLA. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the church organist in Vista for more than 30 years. She loved sewing, knitting, reading, and genealogy.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Caswell Charles Phillips.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Dave Hammond of Grand Coulee, Wash., and Linda and Steve Smith of Highland, Utah; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, at the LDS Chapel at 2080 California St. in Oceanside.
Interment will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.

John Bullington, 58
OCEANSIDE - John Dewey Bullington, 58, died of cancer Tuesday, April 3, 2007.
Born in St. Louis, Mo., he lived in Oceanside for most of his life. He graduated from Oceanside High School in 1966 and became a pioneer in bioremediation technology in Southern California.
He founded several companies specializing in the breakdown of fossil fuels and remediation of water and soil, serving the state of California and the nation removing toxic chemicals from the environment for more than 25 years. He enjoyed traveling, sports and games.
Mr. Bullington was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ruth Bullington.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dora Lee Bullington; daughters Jule Wright of Temecula and Deborah Anderson of Naperville, Ill; sons Daryl Bays of Carlsbad, and Mark Bays and Derek Bullington, both of San Diego; brothers Wayne Bullington, Dave Bullington, and Steve Bullington; sisters Cindy Wood, Barbara Edwards and Carole Griffin; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside. Memorial and graveside services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Eternal Hills.

Eleanor Allen, 78
BOSCAWEN, N.H. - Eleanor Jeanne Allen, 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Concord, N.H.
Born April 13, 1928, in Pasadena, she lived in Boscawen for five years and Vista for 25 years priviously. She was a retail clerk for A&P Market for 25 years and retired in the late 1960s.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, William Allen, in 1999; son Larry Allen in 1976; brother Wayne McCurdy; and grandson Shawn Bishop.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda S. Cleary of Andover, N.H., and Cindy O'Neil of West Branson, Mo.; brothers Charles McCurdy of Irvine and Marvin McCurdy of Monroe, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Live Oak Memorial Park, 200 E. Duarte Ave., Monrovia with the Rev. Robert McDill officiating.
Inurnment will follow.

ESCONDIDO - Gloria Juarez Tapia, 57, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Born Sept. 8, 1949, in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico, she lived in Escondido for 23 years. She was a homemaker. She attended both St. Mary's Catholic Church and Church of the Resurrection in Escondido. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Tapia is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jesus Tapia; daughters and son-in-law Dolores Tapia and Emigdia and Paul Palenki, all of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Maximino Tapia, Benjamin and Maria Robles and Santiago and Elza, all of Escondido; sisters Robertina Vargas of Chicago, and Rosa Gutierrez of Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico; brother Esteban Gutierrez of Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico; and eight grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S. Broadway, Escondido.
A Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 102 E 13th Ave., Escondido.
Interment will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido.

Grace Fuller, 81
CARLSBAD - Grace W. Fuller, 81, died Friday, April 6, 2007.
Born Feb. 25, 1925, in Los Angeles, she lived in Carlsbad. She worked for the County of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Fuller was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Welsh Jr., in 2005.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John C. Fuller of Carlsbad; and daughter Nancy Fuller of Sunland.
Burial at sea is planned.

Lee R. Wallace, 66
CARLSBAD -- Lee R. Wallace, 66, died Friday, April 6, 2007, of pancreatic cancer in Carlsbad.
He was born Nov. 24, 1940, in Portola. He graduated in 1958 from El Camino High School, then attended American River College for two years, and later went to UC Berkeley, where he received a bachelor of science degree.
Mr. Wallace retired after 27 years with Pacific Bell and most recently had worked as an information technology consultant for Fujitsu Consulting.
He was an adult class leader for five years at NorthCreek Church in Walnut Creek, and later attended North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad.
Mr. Wallace was active and healthy many years. He enjoyed bike riding, running and weight lifting. He was an avid reader of war history, political books and the Bible. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to foreign destinations and sailing on the San Francisco Bay with friends. In anticipation of retirement, they recently moved to Carlsbad, where they had been attending North Coast Calvary Chapel.
He was preceded in death by Tiffany Morris on Jan. 2, 2000. His is survived by his wife of 41 years, Trish Wallace of Carlsbad; sons and daughter-in-law Chris and Christina Wallace of Tucson, Ariz., and Jeremy Wallace of Concord; daughter and son-in-law Heather and Greg Bock of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Dorothy Wallace of Folsom; and grandchildren Taylor, Andrew, Matthew, Brittany and Kaleb.
A public graveside service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.
The family suggests memorial donations to the North Coast Calvary Chapel building fund, 7188 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, CA 92011.

Burt Topper, 78
TEMECULA -- Burt Topper, 78, died of pulmonary failure, Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills.
Born July 31, 1928, in Coney Island, N.Y., he lived in Temecula.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He pursued a career in movie direction and production. He wrote, produced and directed more than 26 films for AIP. He was involved with Variety Clubs of America, giving years of his time and talent and wrote, directed, produced and narrated fundraising pictures such as "Touch of a Child."
Mr. Topper is survived by his wife, Jennifer Topper of Temecula; sister, Muriel Kreeger of Beverly Hills; and nieces Patricia Wakefield and Rhonda Kreeger of Beverly Hills.
The funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in Burbank at Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

John Dewey Bullington
John Dewey Bullington, age 58, passed away after a valiant fight with cancer on April 3, 2007. John was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Ruth Bullington, and originally hails from St. Louis, Missouri. The family moved to Oceanside, California, in 1955, and John made California his home for most of his life.
John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dora Lee Bullington, originally of Wickenburg, Arizona; five children; three grandchildren; and six siblings. His children include: Jule Wright of Temecula, California; Deborah Anderson of Naperville, Illinois; Daryl Bays of Carlsbad, California, Mark Bays and Derek Bullington, both of San Diego, California. Grandchildren include: Kathleen Wright, Joseph Anderson and Olivia Anderson. Siblings include: Wayne Bullington, Dave Bullington, Cindy Wood, Barbara Edwards, Steve Bullington and Carole Griffin.

A memorial service will be held for Mary Ann S. Fulton of Escondido, who died on March 7.
The service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, S. Juniper St. and Idaho Ave., Escondido.

FALLBROOK - Lilly Kekos, 85, died of natural causes Monday, April 2, 2007, at her home.
Born Oct. 28, 1921, in Treece, Kan., she lived in Fallbrook for 18 years. She was a Jehovah#'s Witness minister for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Kekos was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Kekos; sister Anna Petroff; brother John Stevens; and daughter Christine Smithhart.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Thula Kekos and Jerry and Nancy Kekos, all of Colorado; daughters and sons-in-law Frank Smithhart II of Mira Loma, Louise and Gary Hargreaves and Andrea and Chris Nicoll, all of Fallbrook, and Johanna and Paul Kraght of San Dimas; sister Tena Nackos of Utah; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services have been held.
