Thomas Slattery, 85

RANCHO SANTA FE - Thomas G. Slattery, 85, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, in Encinitas.

Born Aug. 16, 1921, in Wichita, Kan., he lived In Rancho Santa Fe for 38 years. He attended Wichita University where he played center on the varsity football team. He served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a commander.

He was a member of the Rancho Santa Fe Rotary for more than 30 years and was cofounder and first president of the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. He was a Rancho Santa Fe civic leader in San Diego and title insurance executive.

He served on the Santa Fe Irrigation Board for 23 years.

He was former chairman of San Diego Economic Development Corp., vice president of San Diego Chamber of Commerce, on the governing board of California Mortgage Bankers Association and the Building Contractors Association.

Mr. Slattery is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bette Mae Slattery, of Rancho Santa Fe; son Mike Slattery of Encinitas; daughter Kerry Slattery of Los Angeles; sister Sharon Slattery Beach of San Diego; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 2, at the Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe.

Elmer Ritchie, 82

ESCONDIDO - Elmer Lester Ritchie, 82, died of Parkinson's disease, Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007.

Born April 24, 1924, in California, he lived in Escondido. He was the owner of an auto repair and towing garage in New Jersey, and was employed as a Volkswagen mechanic for many years in Southern California. He was last employed by Brown Motors in El Cajon.

Mr. Ritchie is survived by his wife, Jessica; and twin sisters, Barbara Frederick of Escondido and Beverly Kaminski of Manhattan, Mont.

Inurnment is planned at Nuevo Memorial Gardens in Ramona at a later date.

P.J. Skill, 88

RANCHO BERNARDO - P.J. Skill, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007.

Born May 22, 1918, in Philadelphia, he lived in Rancho Bernardo 42 years. He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during World War II in Asia.

He was a longtime member of both Shriners and Masons, and a prime supporter of Shriner's Burn Center. He owned Sierra Redwood Company in Los Angeles and later expanded it in Rancho Bernardo in 1964.

He was active in the homeowners association. He fought for good television service; was a member of the Citizens Advisory Council, served for Rancho Bernardo and the city of San Diego on the city's Park and Recreation board. He worked to improve library services and worked with the San Diego Police Department to lower response time. He was one of the first inductees into the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame.

He was an Honorary Deputy Sheriff and served a term on a Federal Grand Jury. He was one of the first volunteers with R.S.V.P. He loved giving roses from his garden to people who helped in the community.

Mr. Skill was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Skill, in 1972.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Momina; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Terri Skill of Rancho Bernardo and half sister, Linda Musgrove of South Carolina.

Services have been held. A cremation is planned.

Mary Dolkas, 60

CARLSBAD - Mary Constance Stapleton Dolkas, 60, died.

Born Dec. 6, 1946, in San Antonio, she lived in Carlsbad. She became the city of Carlsbad's first female patrol officer in 1976. She earned her law degree late in life and for much of her life she was an avid runner, snow skier, water skier, and cowgirl. She loved music and the ocean.

Ms. Dolkas was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Constantine Dolkas.

She is survived by her brothers, Tom, Steve, Paul and John; sisters Laney, Theresa, Cecelia, Lisa, Angela, Georgiana, and Bernadette; sons and daughters-in-law Matthew and Mary, Judd and Judy, and Chase and Kristen; eight grandchildren; and husband Douglas Layland.

Services were held.

Josefa De La Cruz, 86

SAN MARCOS - Josefa V. De La Cruz, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Palomar Medical Center .

Born June 26, 1920, in Calvillo, Ags, Mexico, she lived in San Marcos and in San Diego County for 42 years.

She was a homemaker for 70 years and was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos.

Mrs. De La Cruz was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe De La Cruz, in 1981, and her daughter, Ustolia De La Cruz, in 1940.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Antonio De La Cruz, Elpidio De La Cruz, and Guadalupe and Beatriz De La Cruz, all of Mexico, David and Eva De La Cruz of Utah, and Salvador and Maria El Carmen De La Cruz of San Marcos; daughters and sons-in-law Maria and Jose Velasco of Valley Center, Teresa and Juan Gonzalez of San Marcos, and Elena De La Cruz of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Jesus and Victoria Villalobos of Mexico; sister and brother-in-law Guadalupe and Refugio Villalobos of Mexico; 50 grandchildren and 122 great-grandchildren; and 39 great great-grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing are scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and rosary at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at St. Mark's Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos with the Rev. Alfredo Heyrosa officiating. Graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.

Doris Robinette, 89

ESCONDIDO - Doris Ellen Robinette, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at home.

Born Jan. 26, 1917, in northern Minnesota, she lived in Escondido for six years. She lived in Tacoma, Wash., previously. She loved Southern California weather, the picturesque hills and trips to the beach.

Her favorite activities were reading, gardening, taking classes through Oasis, surfing the net and playing games on her computer. She was interested in the sciences of meteorology and geology.

Mrs. Robinette was preceded in death by her husband, Les Robinette. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Ginger Robinette of Minneapolis; daughters and sons-in-law Jane and Jim Griffith of Tacoma, and Renee and Grant Broadwell of Escondido; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial will take place later in the year.

Otis Joyner, 91

VISTA - Otis B. Joyner died of congestive heart failure, Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007.

Born Aug. 16, 1915 in Ashland, La., he lived in Vista 50 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater and with occupation forces in Japan.

He was attached to the Army Quartermaster Depot, Forth Worth, Texas, for the return and reburial of World War II dead. He was a Sgt. Maj. of MCB Camp Pendleton. He retired from the Marine Corps after 27 years of service.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service until 1974. He was a avid gardener and fisherman.

Mr. Joyner was preceded in death by his son, Russell Bryan, in 1978, and wife, June Rose, in 1998.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Debra and William McCain of Vista.

Yaeko Fish, 71

VISTA - Yaeko Fish, 71, died of cancer Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at her home.

Born March 31, 1935, in Tokyo, she lived in Vista for 43 years.

She retired from Cubic Corp. She taught classical Japanese dancing.

Mrs. Fish is survived by her husband of 45 years, Terry Fish of Vista; daughter and son-in-law Shannon Luna and Brad Johnson of Vista; and two grandchildren.

No services will be held at the requests of the deceased.

Irene Honda, 82

CARLSBAD - Irene Rose Honda, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Manor Care in Encinitas.

Born Aug. 9, 1924, in Eau Claire, Wis., she lived in Carlsbad for six years. She retired in 1989 as a librarian.

Mrs. Honda is survived by her husband, Timothy Honda of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law David and Caroline Honda of Carlsbad; daughter Janis Honda of Hawaii; and two grandchildren.

No services are planned.

Pauline Trejo, 84

CARLSBAD - Pauline Cruz Trejo, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007.

She was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Santa Ana. She was an in-home supportive services worker. She was a seamstress and enjoyed women's retreats and singing in the choir.

Mrs. Trejo was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Trejo; son Ronald Trejo; daughter Patricia Trejo; and brother Henry Cruz. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Benson Perez of Vista; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Ida Trejo of Carlsbad; sisters Madeline Trejo and Margie Gastelum, both of Carlsbad, Angie Magana of Oceanside, and Mary Polakiewicz of Idaho; brothers Stephen Cruz of Tucson, Ariz., Charles Cruz of Vista, Robert Cruz of Carlsbad and Lawrence Cruz of Arizona; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and rosary recited at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Eternal Hills Memorial Chapel, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at St. Francis Catholic Church on Vista Way in Vista.

Interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.

Charles Gibson, 87

OCEANSIDE - Charles "Chuck" Gibson, 87, died of congestive heart failure Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007.

Born Nov. 27, 1919, in Whitesboro, Texas, he lived in Oceanside for 10 years. He retired in 1974 as an investments and securities adviser. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Butler. He was a former Realtor. He was a member of Carlsbad Community Church and the Oceanside Municipal Golf Course. He was on the board of directors of Oceana. He enjoyed senior baseball.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Aline Gibson; brother Sterling Fitch Powell; and sister Elizabeth Harvey.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Val Gibson of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Glenn Tyler and Nancy and Tom Lockwood; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Carlsbad Community Church, 3175 Harding St. in Carlsbad. Inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is planned.

Darryl Marquardt, 49

OCEANSIDE - Darryl Lee Marquardt, 49, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in Vista.

Born Aug. 18, 1957, in England, he lived in Oceanside for seven years. He had bi-polar disease. He was a story-teller and a guitarist.

Mr. Marquardt was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Peters, in 2005.

He is survived by his parents, Eddie and Wendy Marquardt of Oceanside; daughter Shirley of England; and sisters and brothers-in-law Lynne and Malcolm Widdison of Carlsbad and Tanine and Nigel Thorp of Oceanside.

Gary Williams, 64

SUN CITY -- Gary Lee Williams, 64, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

Born Jan. 28, 1942, in Evansville, Ind., he lived in Sun City for 25 years. He enjoyed building things and drawing.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane Williams of Sun City; sons Tim Williams of Temecula and Michael Williams of Sun City; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City.

Richard Peters, 81

VISTA -- Richard A. Peters, 81, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007.

Born June 30, 1925, in Chicago, he lived in Vista. He graduated from Kenmore Senior High School. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute until serving in the Armed Services in the European Theater. He was a physicist/electrical engineer. He was employed with Bell Aircraft on the X-15 aerospace projects. He was an avid reader, chess player and astronomer.

Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Bollinger Starke; sister and parents.

He is survived by his stepson, Timothy Starke of Ontario, Canada; sister Dolores O'Neill of Garden Grove; three nephews, two nieces and their children.

Graveside services were held at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.

Michael Calvert, 59

OCEANSIDE -- Michael B. Calvert, 59, died of a brain aneurysm, Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007.

Born Feb. 24, 1947, in Blytheville, Ark., he lived in Oceanside for 14 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a dog handler while stationed in Vietnam. He attended Arkansas State and Memphis State, where he studied computer programming. He was employed in that field for more than 25 years. Since living in Oceanside, he worked for Kelco and Heating & Cooling Supply. Mike loved riding his Harley. He had been a memberof Oceanside and Biggs Harley Group for 10 years. He rode his bike for charities, loved animals and helped with both Greyhound and Golden Retriever Rescue. He raised puppies to become service dogs. He also loved sports.

Mr. Calvert is survived by his wife, Sue Calvert; brother Rod Calvert, daughters Stephanie Calvert of Secaucus, N.J., and Stacey Nix of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Clyde Hunter, 83

FALLBROOK -- Clyde Wood Hunter, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007.

Born Nov. 21, 1923, in Cedar City, Utah, he lived in Fallbrook for 33 years. He received his early education in Cedar City, attended the University of Utah at Logan and graduated with a B.S. from the University of Nebraska and a master's degree from George Washington University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 33 years and retired as a colonel in 1973. He served in many capacities and is entitled to wear 33 medals. In 2005 he was honored to be the honorary Marshall of the Veterans Day Parade in Fallbrook. He served in various civic organizations and was the broker and owner of Two Rivers Realty for many years. He enjoyed landscaping, reading, hunting in Mexico, and his animals.

Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Painter; parents George Muir Hunter and Pauline Wood Hunter.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Rick Williams; brothers and sisters-in-law Antone and Fern Hunter and Richard and Toni Hunter; sisters and brothers-in-law Walter and Norine Bell, and Gary and Kathryn Adams; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A service was held Friday, Jan. 26, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma with military honors.

Louis Bennett Jr., 76

ESCONDIDO -- Louis "Lou" Gerald Bennett Jr. died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born Sept. 23, 1930, in Los Angeles, he lived in Escondido. He graduated from Van Nuys High School. He studied business management at Fullerton College. He was employed in the door and window manufacturing industry. He received many awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award, CAWM in 1997. He loved playing golf, and traveling.

Mr. Bennett, Jr. was preceded in death by sister Marilyn Lawrence and stepson Bryan Klyce.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley; daughters Karen Lawrence of Redding and Lynn Fritz of Bettendorf, Iowa; sons Gary Bennett of Pope Valley and Louis Bennett of Middletown; brother John Bennett of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters Joan Martin of Woodland Hills and Jan Dalton of Newhall, stepchildren Kimberly Giblin of Mission Viejo and Don Klyce of Las Vegas; and 13 grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Alta Vista Country Club in Placentia.

Dorothy Ormsby, 94

YUMA, Ariz. -- Dorothy Manriquez Ormsby, 94, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007.

Born Sept. 7, 1912, in Santa Monica; she lived 44 years in Los Angeles County, 38 years in Valley Center and four years in Escondido. She spent the last eight years in Yuma. She was employed as a night nurse in Escondido convalescent facilities and at Palomar Medical Center in the housekeeping department for many years. She worked for more than 20 years at Hidden Valley Health Ranch as head chef for Dr. Bernard Jensen.

Mrs. Ormsby is preceded in death by her first husband of 46 years, Enick Manriquez.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Gery Ormsby; sons LeRoy Andre Manriquez of Rancho Bernardo; Emilio Manriquez of Valley Center, Richard Charles Manriquez of Vancouver, Wash., and Fermin Moreno of San Marcos; daughter Marie Holt of Payson, Ariz.,; six sisters, two brothers; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren.

Deana Hughes, 39

ESCONDIDO -- Deana LaRae Hughes, died of gastro-esophageal cancer, on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007.

She was born April 6, 1967, in Escondido and graduated from San Pasqual High School. She studied in Paris and traveled Europe extensively, finishing her education at California State University in Chico, where she founded the local chapter of Kappa Sigma Delta Sorority. She lived in San Francisco, working the retailing and fashion industry. She arranged weddings for many notable San Francisco-area families. She worked with her father at his business, TRI-AD, for more than five years. She was active in Toastmasters, local and national charitable activities and various other social events.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband, Steve; parents Curtis and LaRae Hamilton; brothers and sister-in-law Thad and Kristen Hamilton and Wyatt, all of Escondido.

A Celebration of Life service were held Friday, Jan. 26, at Vista Valley Country Club in Vista.

Genevieve Bridger, 105

OCEANSIDE -- Genevieve Lucille Bridger, 105, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006.

Born Aug. 22, 1901, in Ventura, she lived in Oceanside for 27 years. She worked at the Hotel Del Coronado and as a seamstress and drapery maker for years. She helped staff a lookout station in Pine Valley during World War II. She loved bowing and bowled all over the country. In her later years she loved outings with her friends in the Tailfeathers Club of Peacock Hills and getting photographed with five generations.

Mrs. Bridger was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, in 1949; and her second husband, Archie Bridger, in 1972.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eve and James Condra of Vista; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held in National City.

Norman Dolnick, 89

CARLSBAD ­­ Norman Dolnick, 89, of Carlsbad died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, of heart failure at a San Diego hospice.

Born Jan. 24, 1918, in Chicago, Mr. Dolnick lived in Carlsbad for 17 years. He attended the University of Chicago. He was also a civilian instructor for the Army Air Corps during World War II at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., and later served as an information specialist for the War Labor Board in Washington, D.C.

He also worked as a corporate consultant, a publicist, lobbyist, civil rights activist, political reformer and an advocate for nuclear disarmament.

Mr. Donick moved to Carlsbad in 1989, where he became active in the Carlsbad Arts Association and was on its board for four years, including a term as president in 1990.

He also was a board member for the San Diego branch of Independent Scholars in 2005.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Bunny Kacher, of Carlsbad; sons and daughters-in-law Donald and Merna Villarejo of Davis, and David Dolnick and Janice Cimbalo of San Diego; sister Mary Gordon of Chicago; grandchildren Sonja, Rachel, Michael, Suzanna and Amy; and four great-grandchildren.

Harriett Esterbaurl Draper, 99

VALLEY CENTER ­­ Harriett Esterbaurl Draper, 99, of Valley Center died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at her home in Valley Center.

Born June 28, 1907, in Pleasanton, Neb., she lived in Valley Center for 67 years. She was a hospital nurse for 35 years, was a member of a nurses organization, and she published the newsletter for Hide-Away Lake Mobile Estates.

Mrs. Draper is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dale, of Valley Center.

Sharon L. Flumerfelt, 57

OCEANSIDE ­­ Sharon L. Flumerfelt, 57, of Oceanside died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007.

Born March 14, 1949, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Oceanside for 19 years. She worked for the Orange County Fire Department until her retirement in 1988.

Mrs. Flumerfelt is survived by her husband of 20 years, William J. Flumerfelt, of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Rachel Fox of Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law Rebekah and Torrey Cluett; brother and sister-in-law Loren and Mary Howell of Oklahoma; sisters Kathy, Debbie and Georgie Howell; and grandchildren Bayleigh, Tayah, Journie, Brynnley, Cluett, Adam and Abby Fox.

OCEANSIDE ­­ Mary Jo Ann Etheridge, 68, of Oceanside died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at her home.

Born Oct. 20, 1938, in San Diego, she lived in Oceanside for 68 years. She is survived by her sons Jack of Temecula and Mark of Oceanside; daughter Susan Armstrong of Indio; and six grandchildren.

Bonnie Lee Glover, 80

RAMONA ­­ Bonnie Lee Glover, 80, of Ramona died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at her daughter¹s home in El Cajon.

Born March 3, 1926, in Cullman, Ala., Mrs. Glover was a southern belle and a fantastic cook. She loved crafts, keeping her home and, above all else, her family. She enjoyed gardening and was a caretaker to ailing plants, and liked to restore and refinish furniture.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Glover. She is survived by her son John Glover of Phoenix; daughters Ramona Rogers of El Cajon, Lenay Monaghan of Ramona, Peggy Feagin of Hemet, Belinda Shead of Santee, and Karen Langlois of Ramona; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

VISTA ­­ Bea Gustafson, 75, of Vista died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, of natural causes at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.

Born July 11, 1931, in Beatrice, Neb., Mrs. Gustafson lived in Vista for 48 years. She graduated from Bremerton High School in Bremerton, Wash., and attended Palomar College in San Marcos from 1972 to 1975.

She was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1955, and served in the Marine Corps Reserve from September 1955 to September 1958. She also served in the Army Reserve with the 177th Transportation Company at the Del Mar Basin Army Reserve center at Camp Pendleton before retiring as a sergeant.

She also was a PTA president, a Little League coach, and a Cub Scouts den mother.

Mrs. Gustafson is survived by her sons Keith and Leah Gustafson of Richmond, Va.; daughters Pamela and Daniel Gustafson; brothers and sisters-in-law Mervyn and Patricia Beyer of Hoquiam, Wash., and Arthur and Sharon Beyer of Garibaldi, Ore.; and grandchildren Bryce and George.

A public cryptside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery in Oceanside. AccuCare is handling arrangements.

Victor Charles Munson, 73

ESCONDIDO - Victor Charles Munson, 73, of Escondido, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Kaiser Zion Hospital in San Diego.

Born Nov. 9, 1933, in Cortland, N.Y., he was a telephone switchman for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and was active in the Bahai faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Chang Munson, in 2003.

His is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sue Munson of Torrance; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Susan Munson of Albany, Ore.; sisters and brother-in-law Edna Hutchings of Utica, N.Y., and Elizabeth and George Croop of Cortland, N.Y.; and granddaughter Emily Munson.

Burial was private. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido. McLeod Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Annegret 'Anne' Schneider, 79

TRUCKEE - Annegret ³Anne² Schneider, 79, of Truckee, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in Truckee.

Born Dec. 12, 1927, in Hanover, Germany, she married Theodore ³Ted² Schneider in Germany in 1953 and then moved to the United States in 1958. They moved to Vista in 1964, where Mrs. Schneider lived until 1997 when she moved to Truckee to be near her family.

Mrs. Schneider traveled all over the world and at times lived in Italy, Iran, Turkey and Egypt. She was fluent in English, German, Italian and French. She was a member of P.E.O. and loved to play cards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, who died in 1966. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Weber; son and daughter-in-law Martin and Heidi Schneider; grandchildren Amy, Rusty, Michael, Brenton, Courtney, Nicolette, and Alex; and great-grandchildren Cody, Nicholas and Amara Kay.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside. Truckee-Tahoe Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Elsie A. Kempton, 96

OCEANSIDE - Elsie A. Kempton, 96, of Oceanside died Thursday, Jan. 25 at her home.

Born July 19, 1910, in Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Kempton has lived in Oceanside and San Diego County for 20 years and in the Los Angeles area for 10 years prior.

She was a real estate agent for five years, and had been a teacher in Minneapolis before moving to California.

She is survived by her sons David Langelaugh of Gainesville, Va., and Tom Langelaugh of Garden Grove; six nieces and six nephews; and granddaughters Lisa Fox and Katherine Letellier.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Oceana Community Association clubhouse, 550 Vista Bella, Oceanside. Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos chapel, is handling arrangements.

Bernard Voss, 75

ESCONDIDO - Bernard Voss, 75, of Escondido, died Friday, Jan. 26 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

Born Dec. 19, 1931, in St. Anne, Ill., Mr. Voss served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He liked motorcycles, crossword puzzles and cats. He was a store greeter.

He is survived by his former wife, Gladys DeBoer, of Escondido; stepdaughter Lynda Olson of Merrionette Park, Ill.; sisters and brother-in-law Wilma and Rober Vandervliet of Escondido and Margaret Voss of St. Anne, Ill.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 E. Valley Parkway in Escondido. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 at McLeod Mortuary. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Riverside National Cemetery.

MEMORIALS

Dorothy Ellen Farinacci

Dorothy Farinacci, age 87, and a 12-year resident of the Pacifica senior community in Oceanside, Calif., died at home on January 17, 2007.

Until recently, she participated in water aerobics and line dancing. She played bridge and enjoyed communicating with friends and family through letters, cards and emails. She was an excellent hostess, cook and homemaker.

Her sunny disposition will be long remembered as will her blue twinkling eyes and ready smile.

She was born April 6, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wis., and was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Farinacci.

She is survived by her loving companion, Harold Brewer; son Bill Payne of Henderson, Nev.; daughter Judy Payne of Milwaukee; stepmother Velma Smith of Mountain Home, Ark.; brother Bill Smith of New Port Richey, Fla.; sister Marge Sipes of Garden City, S.C.; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on January 20, in the Pacifica Club House.

George Archibald 'Arch' Presby

George Archibald Presby, 99, died January 22, 2007, in Escondido. Mr. Presby was born August 27, 1907, the son of George Frederick and Helena Isabel Gibb Presby in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. He married Vivian Jennifred Grant July 3, 1929, in Vancouver, B.C. She preceded him in death in 1987.

Mr. Presby began his career in early radio in Sherbrooke, in 1925 joining the staff of a Canadian radio station. In 1929 he joined the announcing staff of KEX, Portland, and in 1930 went to Portland's KGW, where he remained for five years. He joined NBC's staff, in San Francisco, the early part of 1937. He was heard as announcer on several programs and attained popularity as commentator of Bughouse Rhythm, a program introducing Jazz and Swing. He was the radio voice of Froggy The Gremlin and hosted a children's show as Uncle Archie on TV in the '50s. He retired in 1972 as chief announcer for NBC in Los Angeles and established a residence in Vista. In 1998 he moved to Escondido, where he resided until his death.

Surviving Mr. Presby is a daughter, Annabelle Brown, and a son, Donald; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a nephew and grand nephew, Norris and Barton Mclean. He also leaves his friend of the heart, Margaret Moore; and loving friends, Leon and Elaine Farley.

Viewing will be at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside on January 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Graveside service will be held January 31, at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside.

Daniel E. Einarsson

CARLSBAD, Calif. - Daniel E. Einarsson died peacefully at home surrounded by friends and loved ones on Jan. 12, 2007, after a brief illness.

Born September 4, 1953, in Kansas City, he grew up in Redondo Beach and lived his adult life in the North County San Diego area. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a degree in business. Dan worked in the electronics industry, most recently as sales engineer for O'Donnell South Inc., based in Torrance, Calif.

Surviving are his wife, Roxanne; his parents, Einar and Irene of Rancho Bernardo; his brother, John of Newberry Park; and his sister, Janet of Penn Valley.

The memorial services will be held at North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad, Calif. The date and time will be determined shortly.

Dan was a loving husband, a caring son and a wonderful friend.
