Joel Lan, 38
CARLSBAD - Joel Diaz Lan, 38, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006.
Born June 14, 1968, in Havana, he lived in Carlsbad for one year. He worked for U.S. Airways for 14 years. He enjoyed working for the Jewish Family Service.
Mr. Lan was preceded in death by Myriam Diaz Lan.
He is survived by his companion of 12 years, Bruce Rainey of Carlsbad; father Juan Lan of West Palm Beach, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law John and Natalie Lan, Jorge and Angelita Lan and Jimmy and Jackie Lan, all of Marietta, Ga.
Viewing is scheduled from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Mass celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 2020 Chestnut Ave., in Carlsbad.
Inurnment will be at Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens in Lakeworth, Fla., at a later date. A private cremation is planned.

James Garry Sr., 95
SAN MARCOS - James Francis Garry Sr., 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.
Born March 14, 1911, in Chicago, he lived in San Marcos for 28 years. He retired as a purchasing agent for the Fred F. Antelline Inc. Heating & Air Conditioning. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church.
Mr. Garry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Garry of San Marcos; sons James F. Garry Jr. of Bremerton, Wash., and Joseph Garry of Santiago, Chile; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos. Inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma is planned.

Charles Claas, 84
SAN DIEGO - Charles Clayton Claas, 84, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in Carlsbad.
Born Oct. 21, 1921, in Pueblo, Colo., he lived in San Diego County for 21 years. He was a horticulturist. He served in the U.S. Navy as an ensign during World War II.
He received a master's degree in guidance counseling from Colorado State University. He was a wood worker, floral designer, and a cook. He enjoyed bicycling, playing racquet ball, tennis, his family and his dog, Tina.
Mr. Claas was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Claas, in 2003. He is survived by his daughters, Bobbi Claas of San Diego and Cathy Claas of Oceanside; brother Marvin Clark of Pueblo; sister Nancy Jamnick of West Virginia; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Cabrillo Memorial Drive in San Diego.

Mary Lou Stephens, 67
CARLSBAD - Mary Lou Stephens, 67, died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at her home.
Born Nov. 23, 1938, in Chicago, she lived in Carlsbad for 10 years. She retired in 1994 from Busy Bee.
Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Alice Schaffer.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ron Stephens of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Laurie Stephens of Morrison, Colo.; daughter Linda of Craig, Colo.; brother Tom Schaffer of Antioch, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Bob Dogan of Antioch; and three grandchildren.
Private cremation and burial at sea are planned.

Carol Watkins, 73
DEL MAR - Carol C. Watkins, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006.
Born Sept. 7, 1933, in Walsenburg, Colo., she lived in Del Mar 40 years. She attended the University of Oregon. She was Del Mar's Woman of the Year twice. She was a writer, philanthropist, charity fundraiser, artist, and community activist. She was a reporter for the Citizens newspaper and opened several shops in Del Mar. She was instrumental in forming the first "Citizens for Del Mar" organization to stop a proposed high rise development on the northern bluffs of Del Mar, and with her husband opened a dozen resorts along the California coast ending with the world class L'Auberge Del Mar. She loved horses, dogs and people. She was instrumental in opening the Lake Otay Olympic Training Center in 1991.
Mrs. Watkins is survived by her husband, Jim; and four children and eight grandchildren.
Arnold Dauman, 89
ENCINITAS - Arnold Dauman, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006.
Born Sept. 24, 1916, in the Bronx, N.Y., he lived in Encinitas for 47 years. He was a litigation specialist for the Automobile Club of Southern California. He had a passion for tennis and joined Cardiff Courts Tennis Club, later Bobby Riggs Tennis Club. He was a member of a local book club for more than 20 years.
Mr. Dauman is survived by his daughters, Jayne Johnson, Nancy Celick and Lucinda Maison.
A memorial was held on Sept. 24 at Quail Botanical Gardens.
Bobbie Bunner, 65
FALLBROOK - Bobbie Lou Bunner, 65, died of malignant melanoma Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.
She was born March 26, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in education. She was a research analyst and a volunteer for the Washington State Prison. She enjoyed parties, cooking, reading, bridge, sewing, gardening, traveling and her dogs and family.
Mrs. Bunner was preceded in death by her son, Joel Bunner; parents Mildred and Richard Baesman; and father-in-law Daniel Bunner.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, David Bunner of California; daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Gary Transue; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Bethany Bunner; brothers and sisters-in-law Richard Jr. and Ruthann Baesman of Ohio, and William and Nancy Baesman of Colorado; mother-in-law Gertrude Bunner of Ohio; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Fallbrook. A reception followed.

Keith Nelson, 75
RAMONA ññ Keith "Skeeter" Nelson, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, in Poway.
He was born Oct. 19, 1930, in Wausa, Neb. He was the owner of Nelson Construction. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration, in 1985. He retired in 1978 from the U.S. Navy as a master chief petty officer. He did two tours in Vietnam.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Nelson; and brothers Stanley Nelson and Leslie Nelson. He is survived by his son, Greg Nelson; and daughter Kathleen.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona.

Marie Rempel, 91
ESCONDIDO - Marie Ellen Rempel, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at her home.
Born Oct. 20, 1914, in Templeton, she lived in Escondido for eight years. She was a missionary nurse for nine years for the Sudan Interior Mission.
Mrs. Rempel was preceded in death by her first husband, David Mitchell Osborne, in 1959; second husband Menno Rempel in 1995; and daughter Jeannie Marie Osborne in 1956.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Faye Osborne of Escondido, R. Gordon and Jorja Osborne of North East, Md., and Doug and Leslie Osborne of Vista; stepsons Dennis Rempel of Los Angeles and Loren Rempel of Oregon; stepdaughter Elaine Rempel of Maryland; sister Doris Wittenberg of Sacramento; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 4, at McLeod Mortuary in Escondido. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at New Community Church of Vista with the Rev. Mark Lybarger officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Masao Miki, 62
CARLSBAD - Masao Miki, 62, died of cancer Friday, Sept. 22, 2006.
Born July 2, 1944, in Tokyo, he lived in Carlsbad for 10 years. He was a staff gemologist and diamond grading coordinator at the Gemological institute of America in Carlsbad for 16 years. He received a bachelor's degree in chemistry in Tokyo, and graduated in 1980 as a gemologist.
Mr. Miki is survived by his wife of 22 years, Regina Borja Miki of Carlsbad; daughter Monica Miki of Carlsbad; and brothers and sisters-in-law Atsuo and Atsue Miki of Yotsukaido, Chiba, Japan, Kuniyoshi and Kikue Miki of Urayasu, Chiba, and Hiroo and Tae Miki of Kobe, Japan.
A private cremation is planned. A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at 2255 Galena Ave. in Carlsbad.
Dotti Scheidecker, 88
FALLBROOK - Dotti Scheidecker, 88, died of natural causes Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at Hilton Head, S.C.
Born Feb. 8, 1918, in Fairfield, Conn., she lived in Fallbrook for 35 years. She enjoyed raising thoroughbred race horses and teaching English riding.
Mrs. Scheidecker was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Paul W. Scheidecker.
She is survived by her son, Paul W. Scheidecker II of Fallbrook; daughters Lynn Knapp of Burnsville, Minn., and Paula Lowe of Beaufort, S.C.; sister Avia Schneider of San Marcos; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Fort Meyer Chapel in Arlington, Va. Inurnment will follow at 4 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

ESCONDIDO - Angela J. Martin, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006.
Born Feb. 14, 1914, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, she lived in Escondido for nine years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of children. She was a volunteer at senior homes.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Martin, in 1990.
She is survived by her sons, Gary and Rick; daughters and sons-in-law Chuck and Jeanie and Ron and Debbie; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A service will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at Bunkers Edenvale Cemetery in Las Vegas.

Clara Wyman, 91
RANCHO BERNARDO - Clara Alice Wyman, 91, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006.
Born July 5, 1915, in Cleveland, she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 42 years. She was an artist and taught art in high school.
Her art is in the Cleveland Institute of Art, and the corporate collections of IBM and General Motors. President Herbert Hoover bought a piece for her granddaughter's wedding. She attended the Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Wyman was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wyman, in 1983.
She is survived by her nieces, Alice Chojnacki of Independence, Ohio, and Ethel Soladay of North Carolina.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, 17010 Pomerado Road in San Diego.

MURRIETA -- Joyce Marie Weaver, 77, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006.
Born Nov. 4, 1928, in Minneapolis, she lived in Murrieta for four years. She lived in Long Beach previously. She enjoyed bowling.
Mrs. Weaver is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Dave Stepp of Oxnard; sons and daughter-in-law Timothy and Lora Weaver of Murrieta and Thomas Weaver of Long Beach; brother, Don Schennun of Long Beach; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Evans-Brown Mortuary, Sun City Chapel.

Miguel Hernandez, 50
QUAIL VALLEY -- Miguel Hernandez, 50, died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at his home.
Born Sept. 29, 1956, in Mexico, he lived in Quail Valley for four years. He worked in hotel building maintenance for three years.
Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Dolores Hernandez of Lake Elsinore; sons Miguel Hernandez and Edgar Hernandez, both of Lake Elsinore; daughter, Rosa Hernandez of Quail Valley; and two grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. and rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 4, at Options Funeral & Cremation Service. Viewing will also be available from 10 a.m. to the start of the Mass at noon Thursday, Oct. 5, at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church. A private cremation is planned.

In Loving Memory of Olga Lucille Seelig
Olga Lucille Seelig was called home by our beloved Lord and Savior Christ Jesus on September 22, 2006. Olga was the daughter of Josef and Mary Nemec, born in Julesburg, Colorado, August 25, 1922. She was a devoted Christian, loving mother and friend. She was formerly married to Harold S. Seelig. Olga was a longtime resident of Del Mar, California, and spent her final days in the peace of her home in Escondido.
As a child she was very active in school and was a talented musician playing the violin, piano and obo both in school and her church orchestra. She was an outstanding student and very active in church functions. She was a real estate broker for some years, but her devotion was always with her family.
She is survived by her former husband, Harold; her daughter, Sherryll Young; son Jonathan David; daughters Sarah Marie Sandvik, Andrea Kay Seelig; sister Marie Millat of Dayton, Ohio, as well as seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is now safely home with our Lord, and will be united with her loved ones again.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the Neighborhood Church, 1001 Country Club Lane in Escondido.
Thomas Taylor Jones Jr.
On September 30, 2006, Thomas T. Jones was called back to active duty with the Heaven Division of the United States Marine Corps. Let it be known that he is now entitled to spend R&R for eternity with his beloved wife, Ellen Alice Jones, who preceded him on January 18, 2005.
Let it be also known for all those who care or are interested that former Master Sergeant Thomas T. Jones held several patents to products he developed and designed which were used by the United States military.
Other accomplishments that are a source of personal pride include being a devoted and loving father to Craig Thomas Jones (electrician), Richard Keith Jones (teacher), Dr. Paul Steven Jones (physical medicine and rehabilitation), and Patricia Mattos, JD (lawyer).
He was also survived by his sisters, Barbara Allen and Ruth Stephens; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel with Father Eric Menees officiating. Inurnment will be held privately at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, San Diego, Calif.
