ESCONDIDO - Winstead Issac Ogilvie, 70, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Kaiser Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1936, in Houston, he lived in San Diego County for 35 years.

He was an electronic technician at Hewlett Packard for 32 years. He was a member of the Escondido Elks Lodge and enjoyed coin collecting and computers.

Mr. Ogilvie was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ogilvie.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sharon Ogilvie of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl and Tony Andrea of Mission Viejo and Jolene and Chris Sanchez of Escondido; brother-in-law Gordon Heth of Fruitport, Mich.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel. A private cremation is planned.

Hilary Alles, 91

ESCONDIDO - Hilary Frederick Alles, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007.

Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Jasper, Ind., he lived in Escondido for one year. He lived in Solana Beach for 12 years previously.

He was a loan specialist at a bank for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

He enjoyed playing golf.

Mr. Alles was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Alles, in 1994.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Martha Alles of Escondido; and grandchildren Stewart and Caroline.

Private family services are planned.

Carrie Taylor, 89

VALLEY CENTER - Carrie Lorene Taylor, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.

Born Oct. 23, 1917, in Pensacola, Fla., she lived in Valley Center for four years. She was a salesperson for the Bobe Hobbie Shop for 35 years. She was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and crafting.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, John "Hank" Taylor, in 1992.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Goen; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Carol Taylor; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services have been held in Pensacola.

Lenora Tanner, 88

ESCONDIDO - Lenora E. Tanner, 88, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007.

Born April 3, 1918, in Santa Rosa, N.M., she lived in Escondido for 70 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Tanner, in 1990.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law,

Eddie and Francis Hanson of Columbia Falls, Mont., and William and Anita Stamm and Terry and Renee Matson, all of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Ronald "Dean" and Barbara Tanner of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Orville and Francis Weatherbee of Childress, Texas; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S. Broadway in Escondido.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road in Escondido.

Rebecca Davis-Dennis, 67

VISTA - Rebecca June Davis-Dennis, 67, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in Escondido.

Born Sept. 28, 1939, in

Oklahoma, she lived in Vista for 25 years. She was a dental hygienist in Texas and Southern California for 25 years.

She then worked as a before need counselor at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside. She attended

Oklahoma University in Norma, Okla., Baylor University Dental School in Dallas, and graduated from Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas, in 1971 with a degree in dental hygiene. She was a Presbyterian.

Mrs. Davis-Dennis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Celeste and Jimmy Young of Vista; and grandchildren Steven and Eric.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Oceanside Mortuary, 602 S. Coast Highway. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Walters Cemetery in Walters, Okla.

The family suggests donations to the San Diego Humane Society, 5500 Gaines St., San Diego, CA 92110.

Alex Christie, 73

POWAY - Alex Dawson Christie, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.

He was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Rock Springs, Wyo. He was an engineer in aeronautics for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Christie is survived by his wife, Nancy Christie of Poway.

Interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is planned.

Daurine Irvin, 82

CARLSBAD - Daurine Evelyn Irvin, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006.

She was born April 19, 1924, in California. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Irvin is survived by her husband, William Irvin of Carlsbad; daughters Lisa Irvin of London, and Tami Bollay of Santa Barbara; son Geoffrey Irvin of Thousand Oaks; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at El Camino Memorial, Encinitas Chapel, 340 Melrose Ave. in Encinitas.

Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles.

Robert Gonzales, 78

VISTA - Robert F. Gonzales, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, in Oceanside.

Born March 27, 1928, in Oceanside, he lived in Vista for 58 years. He retired in 1979 from civil service at Camp Pendleton.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a volunteer firefighter at station 111 in South Santa Fe before Vista became a city.

Mr. Gonzales is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esperanza Gonzales of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Elaine and Sal De Casas and Irene and Leo Alanez, all of Vista, Margaret and Tony Gonzales of Sun City, and Gloria and Clyde Blair of Lake Elsinore; son and daughter-in-law Robert Jr. and Janet Gonzales of Medford, Ore.; sisters and brother-in-law Josie and Richard Jimenez of Woodland, Mary Gonzales of Vista and Margie Moreno of Aguana; brother and sister-in-law Peter and Connie Gonzales of Woodland; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.

George Reyes, 74

CARSLBAD - George Reyes, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.

He was born April 28, 1932, in New York. He retired in 1993 as a business owner and mortgage broker. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a professional boxer.

Mr. Reyes was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Reyes, in 2006.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Amanda Reyes of San Rafael; daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Mark Romasanta of Santa Barbara; brothers and sisters-in-law Harry and Mary Reyes, Julio and Irene Martinez and Leslie John; sister Julika Barrett; and two grandchildren.

Jacqueline Brookshire, 83

ESCONDIDO - Jacqueline Brookshire, 83, died of a stroke Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Redwood Terrace.

Born Oct. 22, 1923, in Chicago, she lived in Escondido for two years. She was a secretary and homemaker. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and other charities. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and sewing.

Mrs. Brookshire was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Levi Brookshire, in 2006.

She is survived by her son, Howard Brookshire of San Mateo; daughters and son-in-law Dian Cleary of Escondido and Carol and Martin Becker of Vista; brother Beverly Brookshire of Ohio; sister Geneva Leichliter of Iowa; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service is planned.

Kristy Kull, 38

POWAY - Kristy Elizabeth Kull, 38, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, in San Diego.

Born Dec. 31, 1968, in Cleveland, she lived in Poway for 33 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the

4-H Club and the Girl Scouts of America.

Mrs. Kull was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Kull, in 2000.

She is survived by her husband of six years, Israel Zuniga of Poway; daughter Anna; sons Calvin and Robert; mother Jill Kull of Poway; and sister Carole Ann Bader of Winchester.

Her cremains will be scattered at sea.

Verlin Elam, 88

POWAY - Verlin A. Elam, 88, aka "Cowboy," died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007.

Born Dec. 22, 1918, in Missouri, he lived in Poway for 35 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a carpenter.

Mr. Elam is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Elam of Poway; daughter Darla Medina of Poway; brothers Arlo Elam of Nacomia, Fla., and Kenneth Elam of Lebanon, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Private services and cremation are planned.

Pedro De La Torre, 68

ESCONDIDO - Pedro De La Torre, 68, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007.

Born May 13, 1938, in Zacatecas, Mexico, he lived in Escondido for 43 years. He retired in 2001 as a landscaper and the owner and operator of De La Torre Landscaping in Escondido.

He was a member of the Association of Escondido Charos.

Mr. De La Torre is survived by his wife of 37 years, Juanita De La Torre of Escondido; daughter Brenda De La Torre of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Saul and Matilde De La Torre and Armando and Alicia De La Torre, all of Escondido; sister Antonia Garcia of Zacatecas, Mexico; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 1445 Conway Drive in Escondido.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Resurrection Catholic Church.

MURRIETA - Carolyn Lawrence, 67, died of natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Rancho Springs Medical Center. - Born Aug. 21, 1939, in Louisiana, she lived in Murrieta for 12 years. She was a cashier.

Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her husband, Floyd Lawrence of Murrieta.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Evans-Brown Sun City Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Evans-Brown Sun City Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Abraham Capers officiating. Interment will follow at 1:45 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

Charles Acosta, 54

QUAIL VALLEY - Charles Acosta, 54, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in Murrieta.

Born Jan. 28, 1952, in Orange, he lived in Quail Valley for 27 years. He enjoyed fishing and taking care of his family.

Mr. Acosta was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Acosta. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kathy Acosta of Quail Valley; son, Chad Acosta of Murrieta; daughter, Chamae Acosta of Quail Valley; brothers Donald, Ronald, Mario, Tony, Mike, Raymond, Paul and Carl Acosta; and sisters Juliet Acosta, Janet Glenn and Sabrina Noe.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. Burial at sea is planned.

Alan George, 77

WILDOMAR - Alan George, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

Born Jan. 17, 1929, in Provo, Utah, he lived in Wildomar for five years. He was an insurance broker for more than 50 years. He enjoyed reading and model trains. He loved square-dancing and was a caller.

Mr. George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Audrey George of Wildomar; sons Michael and Lawrence George; stepsons Jim Grimes and Darryl Buntin; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from noon to the start of the funeral service at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wildomar. Burial will follow at Fallbrook Cemetery in Fallbrook.

Miguel Guerrero, 60

MURRIETA - Miguel Guerrero, 60, died of natural causes Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Riverside County Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 14, 1946, in Mexico. He was a welder and metal worker for 40 years.

Mr. Guerrero is survived by his wife, Graciela Portillo; sons Gabriel Guerrero, Denis A. Guerrero and Israel Guerrero; daughters Irene Bugarin, Martha Arroyo, Rocio Guerrero, Brenda Guerrero and Carolina Guerrero; and 19 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Murrieta Valley Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at St. Martha's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Temecula Public Cemetery.

Janet Trautwein, 72

SUN CITY - Janet Mae Trautwein, 72, died of natural causes Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

Born Feb. 26, 1934, in Hollywood, she lived in Sun City for 18 years. She worked at Frazee Paint for more than 25 years. She had an associate's degree. She was an Elvis fan and enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading.

Ms. Trautwein is survived by her companion of 33 years, Gary Schultz; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond "Russell" and Deborah Trautwein; daughters and son-in-law Vicki Moffett, Keri Fisher, and Trudi and Doug Bay; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service is scheduled for noon today, Jan. 17, at Evans-Brown Mortuary Chapel in Sun City. Burial will follow at Perris Valley Cemetery in Perris.

Donna Cobb, 61

TEMECULA - Donna Rae Cobb, 61, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Anaheim Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 7, 1945, in Lynwood, she lived in Temecula for 37 years. She was a homemaker for 45 years.

Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Virginia Turnbull. She is survived by her sons, George Cobb III of Lake Elsinore and Stephen Cobb of Temecula; daughters Melody Cobb and Mendy Cobb, both of Temecula; sisters Lou Ella Niekirk of Washington, Roberta Ray and Mendy Cobb, both of Montana; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. John Phillip Breeden, 73

ESCONDIDO - John Phillip Breeden "Phil" died of congestive heart failure on Tuesday, December 26, 2006.

Born, December 17, 1933, in Callao, Missouri, Phil grew up in the Willowbrook and Lynwood

areas of Los Angeles. He graduated from Lynwood High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1954-1956, and later received a Bachelor of Science from San Diego State College in 1961. Phil lived in the North County communities of Poway, Ramona and Escondido for over 44 years, where he worked as a real estate appraiser and broker.

During his lifetime, he was an active appraiser, broker and sometimes residential developer. He very much enjoyed the business of land and real estate. He had been active with local political groups, and also dabbled in the greyhound racing business. He enjoyed horseback riding and the outdoors. He firmly believed in the values of family, country and God. Phil was a strong patriot and strong proponent of conservative causes. He was known as a very gracious, giving and fun-loving man. He was also known to be a very generous and kind man. He was a guy with a great smile. He was always upbeat, positive, humorous and forward-looking. He was always very welcoming and friendly. He was smart and wise, and wanted to share his information with anyone who might need it. He was rich with good friends. He appreciated and loved all of them sincerely. He was as genuine as he appeared to be. He was the "real McCoy!" Phil was a fine man. Many people have lost a very good friend.

Phil is survived by his wife of 44 years, Olympia Breeden of Escondido; daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Pamela Breeden, Rodger Cockle, Chandler Cockle and Nicole Cockle of Cardiff, sons and in-laws and grandchildren, Alan Pinkerton, Yvette de Boer and Chelsea de Boer of Encinitas, Gary Pinkerton, Lisa Pinkerton, Emma Pinkerton and Christopher Pinkerton of Boulder, Colorado.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2007, at the Escondido Elks Lodge located at 2430 South Escondido Boulevard, Escondido.

Jan Kraayeveld

November 2, 1949 - January 5, 2007

Jan Kraayeveld, 57, of Aspen, Colorado, died peacefully in his sleep on January 5, 2007. He was born in Santa Monica, California, and was of Dutch ancestry. He lived in Manhattan Beach then moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he owned and operated the Village Pantry Restaurant for 12 years. He moved to the Cardiff area for 12 years, where he worked in the construction business. He then moved back to Aspen for the last 11 years. He loved to travel. His favorite places were Arizona, the Netherlands, all of Europe, and of course his favorite, Baja, Mexico. His favorite pastimes were surfing, deep-sea fishing and snow skiing.

He is survived by his cousin in the Netherlands, Hessel Bethmers; his longtime love, Nancy Zirbel; and many, many friends.

There is so much more that all of us feel for Jan, and we will miss him tremendously. He was truly unique and all of us have favorite stories of his strange and wonderful way of living life. We loved him a lot.

A celebration of his life will take place in Aspen, Colorado, Saturday, January 20, at 3 p.m. at the Mountain Chalet Hotel.

Joy Escher Bloom

Joy Escher Bloom passed unexpectedly Saturday morning at the age of 74.

She was a second generation native San Diegan, a graduate of Escondido High and Whittier College, summa cum laude. She taught elementary school and home music, owned and ran a small business, was an expert seamstress and quilter, and volunteered throughout her life for many groups.

She is loved and missed by Karl, her husband of 50 years; and surviving children, Genevieve Bloom, Russell Bloom and Claire Ritter; her brother, Tom Escher; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Jan. 21, at 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 722 S. Johnson, El Cajon.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the church's Bethlehem House Outreach or 4-H.
