William Charles Campbell

1967 -- 2007 39 years

Our sweet Bill left us this weekend doing what he loved most, camping with family and friends in the desert on a clear and beautiful day. A tragic fall from his motorbike took him immediately.

Bill began life on a ranch in Washington State, a small town named for the sound of a wasp, Twisp in the Methow Valley at the foot of the Cascades. Campbell Ranch was founded by his grandparents, Celia and Orvan Campbell, known throughout the area for their fine herd of cattle.

History repeats, Bill's father Charles "Chuck" Campbell died as a young man in the crash of his small plane, leaving two sons the age of Bill's children and Bill's mother Jean.

After school in Washington, Bill set off in search of adventure, surfing the big waves of Hawaii and learning the construction trade. Twice he backpacked through Europe, earning his way with carpentry skills. Events brought him to San Diego where he joined the SCA, participating in Renaissance battles as a member of Corvus.

Bill's dream was to have a solid family and a secure future. He worked hard to achieve that goal, marrying Jacqueline Stookey in 1993, providing for his extensive family and forming first Building Innovations and later CJC Development Company. His ideas for remodeling were remarkably original as well as functional. Bill reworked KFMB-TV8 studios so often that he sometimes remodeled the remodel. He worked like a demon, finishing on time and budget, thoroughly dependable in all things.

If anyone needed assistance he was there, whether a freeway accident or a plumbing leak at his in-laws, Bill could be counted on always.

He was a devoted family man.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, daughter Cassidy, age 10, and son Jack, age 8.

His pleasant outlook, happy personality and bear hugs will be sorely missed.

Services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E. Felicita Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Campbell Family Benefit/Education Fund 91111219 c/o Mission Federal Credit Union, 1500 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92027, or mailed directly to the family home.
