Juan Pedrico, 96

RAMONA - Juan "Freddie" Pedrico, 96, died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, in Poway.

Born Jan. 15, 1910, in Dingle, Ilo Ilo, Philippines, he lived in Ramona for six years. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He was a gourmet chef at MaBulti in San Diego. He was a head chef at various restaurants in New York and California.

Mr. Pedrico is survived by his wife of 47 years, Loretta Lee Pedrico of Ripley, N.Y.; daughters and sons-in-law

Vida and Steve Philbrick and Elena and John Luellen, all of Ramona; and four grandchildren.

Services have been held with interment at Riverside National Cemetery.

Connie Suarez, 65

OCEANSIDE - Connie N. Suarez, 65, died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born Sept. 1, 1941, in San Bernardino, she lived in Oceanside for 42 years. She was a licensed child daycare provider and she took care of seniors. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad. She was involved with the YMCA.

Mrs. Suarez was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Suarez, in 1998.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Rhonda DeLuna of Oceanside and Jimmy and Sonja Olivarri of Los Angeles; daughter Rose "Minga" DeLuna of Oceanside; brothers Mike Mojica of Oceanside, Eugene Mojica of Vista and David Owen of San Diego; sisters Alicia Mojica of San Diego and Carol Mojica of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Oceanside Mortuary.

Jean Alley, 85

OCEANSIDE - Jean Alley, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at her home.

Born April 17, 1921, in Red Rock, Okla., she lived in Oceanside for 18 years. She was a member of the Carlsbad Community Church for 18 years. She was a longtime member of PEO.

Mrs. Alley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack D. Alley of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Jay Dee and Kate Alley of Boston; daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Bob Spaak of Rancho Mirage; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Carlsbad Community Church, 3175 Harding St. in Carlsbad with the Rev. Don Arnett officiating.

Her cremains will be scattered by the family.

Dannie Fisher, 56

ESCONDIDO - Dannie Russell Fisher, 56, died of a stroke Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Palomar Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 9, 1949.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his sons, Michael R. Fisher of Escondido and Daniel R. Fisher of Las Vegas; brother Art Fisher of Keller, Texas; and one grandchild.

Services have been held with interment at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Barry Medlin, 55

RAMONA - Barry Arthur Medlin, 55, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at his home.

Born Dec. 27, 1950, in San Diego, he lived in Ramona since 1987. He worked at Pacific Ship Repair for more than 25 years.

Mr. Medlin is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cookie Medlin of Ramona; mother Rosella Domonic Mineo of Pacific Beach; sons Barry Medlin Jr. of Ramona and Dave Medlin of Escondido; brother Don Medlin of Mariposa; sisters and brothers-in-law Nancy and Gene Burdyshaw of Washington, and Pamela and Alan Clopton of Florida; and one grandson.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Bonham Bros. & Stewart Mortuary in Ramona.

David Ayala, 17

ESCONDIDO - David Edward Ayala, 17, died of the injuries he received in an automobile accident Friday, Sept. 15, 2006.

Born Nov. 16, 1988, in Escondido he lived there all his life. He was an 11th grade student in the Escondido School District.

He enjoyed his ranch, motorcycles, fishing and computers.

David is survived by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth Raupp Ayala of Escondido; sisters Sarah, Mary and Anna, all of Escondido; and grandparents Margie Ayala and Pauline Ayala, both of Wisconsin, and Sara Raupp of Arizona.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Sept. 20, at Crossroads Church, 2406 N. Twin Oaks Valley Road.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

James Gibler, 87

FALLBROOK - James Edgar Gibler, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006.

Born Oct. 16, 1918, in Elk City, Idaho, he lived in Fallbrook for 29 years. He was a special agent for the FBI for 21 years, serving in Cleveland, New York, Anchorage and Santa Monica-Los Angeles field offices. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a P-38 photo reconnaissance pilot in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from the University of Idaho with undergraduate and juris doctorate degrees. He enjoyed duplicate bridge, bowling, golf, chess and checkers.

Mr. Gibler was preceded in death by his sister, Berta McLeod; brothers Bill Gibler, Dick Gibler, Ned Gibler and Paul Gibler; and parents Mabel and Clinton Gibler. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene K. Gibler of Fallbrook; daughters and son-in-law Karen A. Gibler of Santa Monica, and Stephanie and Reginald Grondin of Fallbrook; sister and brother-in-law Sara Jo and Don Johnson of Lewiston, Idaho; brothers and sister-in-law Robert Gibler of Moses Lake, Wash., and Fred and Margaret Gibler of Lewiston; and three grandchildren.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Stephanie and Reginald Grondin's residence in Fallbrook. A private cremation with interment at Kamiah Cemetery in Kamiah, Idaho, is planned.

Tzu Mao, 81

OCEANSIDE - Tzu Jen Mao, 81, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006.

Born Oct. 14, 1924, in Shanghai, China, he lived in Oceanside for six years. He retired in 1989 from the research and development of plastics department of General Motors. He was the author of numerous publications and held 20 U.S. and foreign patents.

Mr. Mao is survived by his wife, Jane Mao of Oceanside; sons Ding-Yao and Jing of Vista and Ding-Quan and Ying of Edison, N.J.; brothers Tzu-Ling and Tzu-An, both of Shanghai; sisters Yue-Ying and Yue-Fen, both of Shanghai; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.

SANTA MARIA - Eugene G. Long, 91, a former resident of North County died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006.

Ray DeAnda, 80

WINCHESTER -- Ray DeAnda, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at his home.

Born Dec. 24, 1925, in Los Angeles, he lived in Winchester for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. DeAnda is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathleen DeAnda of Winchester; sons D'Artagnan DeAnda of New Mexico, and Dennis DeAnda of Wildomar; daughters Natasha Walls of Vista, Dorothy DeAnda of Las Vegas, and Dawn DeAnda, Darla Jean DeAnda and Donna Lynn DeAnda, all of California; brothers Fred DeAnda and Simon DeAnda; sisters Negra and Rosemary; and many grandchildren.

Private services and cremation are planned.

Harry Sherman, 87

WILDOMAR -- Harry E. "Bud" Sherman, 87, died of cancer Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006.

He was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Douglas, Wyo. He was a machinist in the newspaper business. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was awarded a service medal with one battle star.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, June; daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Steven Chesebro; sisters and brother-in-law Maxine Carnival and Bryle and Dick Olds; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. and funeral service at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 34350 Almond St. in Wildomar. Interment at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., is planned.

Pearl Arnold, 75

WILDOMAR -- Pearl Lorraine Arnold, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at her home.

Born Sept. 12, 1931, in Gaylord, Minn., she lived in Wildomar for one year. She lived in Westminster for 25 years previously. She was a keypuncher for IBM for 23 years. She was a member of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa.

Mrs. Arnold is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charles Arnold of Wildomar; daughters Lynda Lattrell of Northern California, and Lisa Bethke of Wildomar; son, Craig Arnold of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers Chester, Lloyd, Wallace and Glen Tollefson; sisters Marion Pomplun and Elaine Wahlin; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Calvary Chapel, 24225 Monroe Ave., in Murrieta. A graveside service will follow at Wildomar District Cemetery.

Roseanna Garibay, 45

PERRIS -- Roseanna Garibay, 45, died of cancer Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006.

Born Nov. 11, 1960, in Salinas, she lived in Lake Elsinore for many years.

Ms. Garibay is survived by her daughter, Leticia Aguirre; son and daughter-in-law, Ruben and Ceresa Aguirre; companion, Chuck Epperson; brothers Manuel, Isaac, Alfred, Steve, Gabriel, Richard, Ernie and Benjamin; sisters Norma and Lisa; and three grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from 9 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City.

Oscar Leroy Eitland

Feb. 14, 1929 - Sept. 16, 2006

Oscar Leroy Eitland, 77, of Escondido died Saturday after a long battle with Pick#'s disease. He was born on a family farm in Wilson, Wisconsin, and for 37 years worked as a pharmaceutical salesman and district manager for Upjohn and Wyeth Laboratories.

He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in an artillery battalion from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a degree in biology.

During his sales career, he lived in Chicago, Minneapolis, Duluth, Las Vegas, and Northridge, California. After retirement, he returned to Las Vegas, where he was active in the Lone Mountain Hiking Club. He also taught remedial driving through the AARP. He was known for his vibrant personality, big warm smile and friendly handshake. Wherever he lived, he was involved with his community. He served on several homeowner association boards. In 1999, Mr. Eitland moved to Escondido, California.

Throughout his life he returned to northern Minnesota and Wisconsin each summer to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed water skiing, cruising around the lakes in his powerboat, and driving tractors. He was always eager to help with construction and repair jobs.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley; daughter Kris Eitland of San Diego; son Richard Eitland of Andover, Connecticut; sister Lillian Weiss of Golden Valley, Minnesota; and four grandchildren.

Memorials will be held Oct. 1, at his home in Escondido and later in October in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. Donations are suggested to Elizabeth Hospice in Escondido, www.elizabethhos

Bernice Frances Martin

Bernice Frances Martin, daughter of the late Samuel Peter Sr. and Annie Frances (Fields) Martin, took her last earthly breath on September 16, 2006, at 9:10 p.m. at Glenbrook, San Diego Hospice embarking on her heavenly journey.

She confessed Christ at the age of 13 at the Emanuel AME Church, Tuckahoe, N.Y., under the pastorate of the late Rev. Heyward Morton. The family moved to Yonkers, where she joined the Messiah Baptist Church, and in 2002 renewed her membership with the Mount Carmel Baptist Church. While residing in California, she joined the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Altadena, and St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, Oceanside.

Bernice was educated in the Tuckahoe and Yonkers, New York Public School System, and graduated from Commerce High School June 1952, earning a bookkeeping diploma. She attended Elizabeth Seton College, Yonkers, N.Y., and MiraCosta College, Oceanside, Calif.

She served faithfully with the Queens Daughter Daycare Nursery, Youth On The Move, Yonkers Community Choir, IVCF, and various auxiliaries in the church; church clerk, committee member of the Federal Credit Union, chairperson Woman's Day Committee, Sanctuary Choir, Echoes of Faith Choral Ensemble, educational and scholarship committee, chairperson sanctuary wedding committee, pictorial directory, Sunday school teacher and hostess. On September 2, 2005, she became a member of the Busy Bees Red Hatters Society. Sparking Divas which put a new dimension in her life.

Bernice was a dedicated, hard-working, loving, compassionate individual who loved to travel. She worked at the Social Security Administration for 23 years employed as an operations supervisor, Los Angeles, Calif., service representative and claims representative, Yonkers, N.Y., White Plains, N.Y., and Bronx, N.Y., until her retirement on March 10, 1989.

Since her retirement she worked at MiraCosta College, Wells Fargo Bank, Sears Roebuck and Co., and Customline Industries Inc.

Despite Bernice's many accomplishments, she was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, whom she loved spending time with. She also loved attending the family reunions, listening to Gospel music, watching Gospel programs, game shows and sports. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.

On April 1, 2002, Bernice was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and often quoted, "I'm in God's hands. He's in control of my life." People often asked, "When trouble comes, why did this have to be?" But blessings come in many ways that sometimes we can't see. Everything that happens is part of God's eternal plan. Today what seems a mystery in time we'll understand. It was God's grace that saved her, God's grace that sustained her, and God's grace took her to Heaven.

A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, Bernice will be remembered and cherished by her daughter, CWO Brenda Joi (Williams), son (by marriage) Michael Fletcher, grandchildren Michael Adrian, Joi Ashley, Paris Michele and John Tyrone Fletcher, all of Oceanside, Calif. She is also survived by sisters and brothers, Vertelle Smith, Samuel P. Jr., Mildred, Clinton Martin and Willie C. Martin, aunt Lerline Santos, Scarborough, Maine; two godchildren, Walter Santos Jr., and Robert Oriol. She is also survived by a host of relatives and loyal dedicated friends.

Her parents, Samuel Peter Sr. and Annie Frances Fields Martin; granddaughter Michele Angelique Fletcher; sisters Deborah Jones and Aileen Martin; grandparents James and Frances Fields, Peter Martin and Ida Crummy, predeceased Bernice.

She appreciated and thank God for all the thoughtful people who touched her life with their warmth and kindness; it was such a blessing.

Visitation is scheduled for 1 p.m. and funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1524 Lemon St. in Oceanside.

Larry E. Spicer

MANSFIELD, Ohio - Major Larry E. Spicer USMC (Ret). age 58, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, at his home in Waynesville, Ohio, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. A devoted husband, father and Marine, Larry is remembered for his dedication to his family and his ever-present outgoing friendly smile. Larry was born in Mansfield, Ohio, and attended Madison High School and The Ohio State University. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967, proudly serving his country in Vietnam. Upon his return, he joined the reserves, attended Fullerton College and Humboldt State University in California. He re-enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1978 and retired on July 1, 2004, after 30 years of service. He always said it took him 37 years to do 30! Larry was a member of the Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Association, the Military Order of the World Wars Joseph H. Pendleton Chapter, Warrant Officer#'s Association, Military Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Ohio State Alumni Association and National Eagle Scout Association. Larry was an avid Ohio

State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns fan and will miss a Buckeye National Championship this year.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Donna Spicer; children Bridgett Spicer of San Diego, Calif., Matt Spicer of San Diego, Calif., and Esther Spicer of Denver, Colo.; mother Marjorie Spicer; and sister Linda Spicer of Mansfield, Ohio. Family members also include Mildred Dillon, Jim Dillon, Doug and Regina Dillon and Terry Carr, all of Mansfield, Ohio, Dick and Suzie Danals of Canon City, Colo.; godfather and cousins, Rev. Stephen Cairns and SR Marguerite Lamberjack of North Baltimore, Ohio; mother-in-law Beatrice Dombroski; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Christine Maziol; sister-in-law Bernadette Dombroski, all of Chino Hills, Calif.; sister-in-law Madeline Dombroski of Fullerton, Calif.; and three nephews and a niece. He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Spicer; grandmothers Theresa Spicer and Esther Murphy, of Mansfield, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter#'s Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen Cairns officiating on Saturday, September 23, at 10 a.m., 54 South Mulberry, Mansfield, Ohio 44902. Gilbert Neil Amelio

Gilbert Neil Amelio came into this world on December 14, 1924, in Bronx, New York, and was tragically killed by a car while walking on September 14, 2006, in Hemet, Calif. His four children, Frank Amelio (Karen) of Carlsbad, Calif., Susan Doyle (Shannon) of Monument, Colo., Glorina Fetherolf of Agoura Hills, Calif., and Marisa Emlen (Bill) of Vacaville, Calif., survive him. His loving and beautiful wife, Beverly, passed away in 1998. He is also survived by his dear, younger sister, Gloria Osbrink of Laguna Niguel, Calif.

Gil was the consummate story-teller filling lives with tales of his travels or a simple tale of a drive through the mountains to catch the morning fog before it rose to the sky. He had a very rich life filled by family, friends and his love of reading, writing, painting and sculpting. These interests were his passion, his strength and his pride. His engaging personality etched in the memory of all those who met him.

Gil received his Bachelor of Arts degree after attending USC and Loyola University. He began his law degree at UCLA and completed a degree in law at the University of Detroit in his 15th year of military service in the Air Force. He served in the Air Force for 30 years with a variety of duty stations all over the world to include the Air Force Academy.

After his military service, Gil was a producer of It Is Written for George Vandeman in Newberry Park, the 700 Club for Pat Robertson, and took the Hour of Power (Robert Schuller Ministries) to Sydney, Australia.

Gil added to his story by fulfilling a lifelong dream of acting and screenplay writing.

Gil is also survived by his grandchildren: Mhari Cavan, Shannon Patrick, Heather Nicole, Joseph, Mitchell Gilbert, Torry Madison, Alison Marie, Sarah Nicole, Jimmy Allen, Kristin Marie, Justin Neil and Jonathan William; and great-grandsons Issac and Peyton.

Rosary and Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today, Sept. 20, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 29102 Crown Valley Parkway in Laguna Niguel with burial with honors following at the Ascension Cemetery.
