CARLSBAD - Grace Fowler Meyer, 93, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at Glenbrook Hospice.
Born Aug. 16, 1913, in Auburn, Wash., she lived in Carlsbad for three years. She was a retired credit manager.
Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her husband, Emil H. Meyer, in 2001.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Myrna McIver of Seal Beach, Patricia and William Klein of Walnut Creek, and Judith Thomas of Carlsbad; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Private family services are planned with inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Robert Witty, 86
FALLBROOK - Robert Charles Witty, 86, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007.
Born Feb. 19, 1920, in St. Louis, he lived in Fallbrook for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army. He attended college in the San Fernando Valley.
He was a member of the Castle Creek Golf Club. He traveled throughout the U.S. in his motor home.
Mr. Witty is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Witty of Fallbrook; sons and daughter-in-law Roger and Nancy Witty of Palmdale; daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn and Victor Miller of Huntington Beach and Leslie and Kris Miles of Overland Park, Kan.; sister Betty
McComb of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Oceanside Mortuary in Oceanside.
Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

VISTA - Hsiu Feng Liu, 54, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007.
She was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Taiwan. She was a waitress at Harrahs Casino.
Mrs. Liu is survived by her husband, Chen Lwu Liu of Vista; daughters Wen "Betty" Liu of Mountain View and Cynthia Liu of Granger; mother Oiong Guan Lai of Taiwan; and brothers Xing Yuan Lai and Zhen Hua Lai, both of Taiwan.
Viewing is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. and funeral service at 2:30 p.m. today, Feb. 10, at El Camino Memorial, Encinitas Chapel, 340 Melrose Ave. in Encinitas. Her cremains will be scattered at sea.

PAUMA VALLEY - Greyling William Betz, 45, died of a gunshot wound Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007.
Born Sept. 23, 1961, in San Diego, he lived in Pauma Valley for one year. He graduated from Vista High School. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Betz is survived by his parents, Darlene and Hunter Betz of Arizona; son Hunter of California; brothers Blake, Brandon and Shannon; and sisters Lisa, Dara and Jennifer.
Services have been held.
Irene Schultz, 91
OCEANSIDE - Irene W. Schultz, 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at her home.
She was born Oct. 14, 1915, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Mrs. Schultz was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Schultz, in 2005.
She is survived by her son, Michael Schultz of Idyllwild; and grandsons Brian and Michael of Illinois.
John Dougherty II, 62
ESCONDIDO - John Edson Dougherty II, 62, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007.
Born Aug. 16, 1944, in Sacramento, he lived in Escondido for 28 years.
He was a maintenance splicer for Pac Bell/SBC/ATT. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He attended Santa Monica City College and San Diego State University.
Mr. Dougherty was preceded in death by his father, John Edson Dougherty.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela H. Dougherty of Escondido; daughters Shawn Phaby, Sarah Dougherty and Katie Meeker, all of Escondido, and Anna Matteucci of Hemet; sons BJ Meeker of Washington, D.C., and Mark Phaby of San Diego; mother Jean Dougherty of Escondido; brothers Michael Dougherty of Castro Valley, Daniel Dougherty of Escondido, Patrick Dougherty of Long Island, N.Y., and Peter Dougherty of Benecia; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Cabrillo Memorial Drive in San Diego.

Born March 15, 1951, in Chicago, he lived in San Marcos and Oceanside for 16 years.
Mr. Goldthwaite was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Goldthwaite; and brother Wayne Goldthwaite.
He is survived by his father Robert Goldthwaite of San Marcos; and brothers and sister-in-law Jeffrey and Carmen Goldthwaite of San Marcos and Chris Goldthwaite of Georgia.

SAN PEDRO - Inez L. Carman, 79, died of natural causes Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007.
Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Alloway, Tenn., she lived in San Pedro for seven years. She lived in Oceanside previously, where she was the owner of Yellow Cab. She was also a real estate broker in Oceanside.
Mrs. Carman was preceded in death by Paul Lee Carman, in 2000.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Burgess of Cookeville, Tenn.; daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Robert Metzger of Cookeville, and Adrienne and Kent Monsanto of San Pedro; brother William Harris of Dayton, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law Lilly "Dolly" and Jay Clark of Mount Clemens, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

SAN MARCOS - Donald H. Gamble, 91, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007.
Born March 17, 1915, in Los Angeles, he lived in San Marcos for 10 years. He was a retired partner of Ernst & Young, Public Accounting Firm in Los Angeles. He graduated from California Western College in Los Angeles.
He enjoyed golf, traveling and visiting with his grandchildren.
Mr. Gamble is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gail Gamble of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law Don and Kay Gamble of Canyon Lake; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Dennis Wood of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Norm and Midge Gamble of Vista; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral service is scheduled for noon today, Feb. 10, at St. Michael's Church in Poway. Private burial at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery in Oceanside is planned.

He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 230, and the Encinitas Elks Lodge 2243.
Mr. Taranto is survived by his wife, Marilyn Taranto of Encinitas; daughter and son-in-law Victoria and Gary Major of Greendale, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law Robert Jr. and Susan Taranto of Coraopolis, Pa.; sister Joan Dwyer of Carlstadt, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Kathy Taranto of Plymouth, Minn.; and five grandchildren.

Born Oct. 13, 1915, in Hendersonville, S.C., she lived in Oceanside for 42 years. She was was a supervisor at the I. Miller Shoe Factory in Long Island City, N.Y.
Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. and Clementine Primus Stevens; brothers James H. Stevens, William J. Stevens and Zackie H. Stevens; sisters Alice Stevens McClelland and Mary Stevens Graham; and one grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria M.H. Waddell of Jamaica, N.Y.; sisters and brother-in-law Barnettia "Bonnie" and George Mitchell Sr. of Oceanside, and Pauline Hatcher of New York.

Erwin Bulen, 80
WILCOX, Ariz. - Erwin Dan Bulen, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in Tucson, Ariz.
Born May 28, 1926, in Bell, he lived in Wilcox, Ariz. He graduated from Escondido High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a dairyman.
He was a worldwide traveler. He enjoyed being a cattle rancher.
Mr. Bulen was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan; and parents Edwin Daniel and Wilma Hazel Huff Bulen.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Kay Bulen of Edmonds, Wash., and Shirley and Tom Woods of Menifee; sisters and brother-in-law Mary Lou and Jim Ritch of Vista, Betty Soito of Chico, and Roberta "Bobby" and Porter Saltus of Lady Lake, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law David and Lynn Bulen of Lake Elsinore; and two granddaughters.
Gravesite services were held at Sunset Cemetery in Wilcox, Ariz.

Greg "Bear" Elshire passed away at the age of 66 at the Loma Linda VA Nursing home January 31, 2007. Greg was an only child and survived by his mother Lorraine and stepfather Bill. Also survived by wife #1, Cherry and daughter Laura Elshire, wife # 2 Kathy and stepdaughters Marie and Christina and daughter Karin Elshire. Also survived by wife #3 Debbie, stepdaughter Chelsey, son-in-law Chad, grandchildren Connor and Cody and last and absolutely not least, son William Elshire.
Greg will be remembered by many as he wore several different hats in his life time. A short description, although it will do his lifetime full of eclectic experiences no justice would be a son, military man, biker, felon, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, college student and graduate. Greg was a man that knew what he wanted and always aspired to obtain his dreams. He lived a life full of memories and he will not be forgotten.

Elouise Posladek passed away quietly on Saturday, February 3, 2007.
Elouise is survived by her loving family, daughter Janelle; sons Charles, Joseph, and Townsend; sisters Julie and Mercedes; and brothers Armando, Jacob and Severo.
Elouise was born in New Mexico, and moved to San Diego as a young lady with her mother, Teresa.
Shortly after her marriage to her husband, Joseph, they purchased a beautiful home in Vista, where they raised their family and lived for over 30 years.
Elouise had a passion for life and lived it everyday with a love for music and dancing with her friends at the Elks Lodge in Vista.
She also adored and collected her little frogs and angels.

Patrick Thomas 'Pappy' Dauss
Lifelong San Clemente resident, Pat "Pappy" Dauss, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on January 31, 2007.
Born on April 27, 1955, at Tripler Navy Hospital in Honolulu, Pat's father, George Dauss, a highly decorated corpsman in the Navy, moved the family to San Clemente shortly thereafter.
Pat and his brothers attended Old Mission School in San Juan Capistrano and Our Lady of Fatima in San Clemente.
A retired postal worker, Pat enjoyed the beach and ocean. He was a very talented artist and his work was well-known locally.
Pat had a passion for music and history, loved sports and was a star at San Clemente High School.
Most of all, we will miss his charm, laughter and wit. Pat truly cared about people.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Rogers of San Clemente; father George Dauss of Oceanside; brothers John (wife Jan) of Oceanside, Mike of San Clemente and Greg (wife Rana) of Oceanside.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
