Elma Smith, 88
OCEANSIDE - Elma M. Stillman Smith, 88, died of natural causes Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007.
Born Oct. 7, 1918, in Kansas, she lived in Oceanside since she was 1-year-old. She was a homemaker.
She graduated from Oceanside/Carlsbad High School, in 1936.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Eugene Smith, in 2001.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David Smith of Oceanside and Marvin and Cindy Smith of Carlsbad; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1943 California St. in Oceanside with the Rev. Eddie Dopp officiating.
Her cremains will be scattered at sea.
Accu-Care Cremation Center is handling arrangements.
Sterling Edwards, 87
CARLSBAD - Sterling Allen Edwards, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007.
He was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 31 years in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and retired as a sergeant major.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Mildred Edwards of Carlsbad; sons Ron Dixson of La Jolla and Sterling A. Edwards II of Oceanside; daughters Diana St. Germaine of Bonsall and Sandra Staley of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His cremains will be scattered at sea.
Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, is handling arrangements.
John Lash, 89
FALLBROOK - Dr. John William Lash, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Born Oct. 1, 1917, in Barberton, Ohio, he lived in Fallbrook for 15 years. He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1940. He had a general practice in Yorba Linda and retired to Fallbrook in 1986.
Dr. Lash was preceded in death by his wife, Madalene J. Lash, in 1985; and son Donald R. Lash in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lucy Wiggins Lash of Bullhead City; sons and daughter-in-law James R. and Linda Lash and Jeffrey W. Lash, all of Bullhead City; daughter and son-in-law Valere Kay and Mark Phillipson of Claremont; brothers and sister-in-law Robert and Donna Lash of California, and Ralph and Charlotte of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned.

Beatrice Marie Opie
Beatrice Marie Opie went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2007.
She was born on August 21, 1938, in Suffolk, Virginia, and grew up there and in Wilminton, Delaware. She resided in Southern California most of her adult life.
She is survived by her mother, Lillian Bacon; her five brothers and sisters, Margaret Shorts, Jimmy Bacon, Erving Bacon, Debbie Goodwin and William Bacon. She is also survived by her sons, Andre, Holley and Darryle Holley; and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Thursday, February 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary located at 902 N. Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92832.
The funeral service for her will be held on Friday, February 9, at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church located at 17145 Bastenchury Road, Yorba Linda, CA 92886.
