TEMECULA -- Barbara Jean Volz, 76, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.
Born Jan. 11, 1927, in San Francisco, she lived in Temecula for 11 years. She was a homemaker for 40 years.
Mrs. Volz is survived by her husband of 40 years, Gale C. Volz of Temecula; son, Dale Rick Volz of Lake Elsinore; daughter, Stevie Somes of Temecula; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Stout Family Funeral Home in Temecula with the Rev. Marlan Kallevig officiating. Private burial is planned.

Maria Bonner, 57
TEMECULA -- Maria C. Bonner, 57, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born Feb. 2, 1946, in Aransas Pass, Texas, she lived in Temecula for nine years. She was the owner and operator of a Chevron gas station for 20 years. She was a licensed vocational nurse and worked at the Veterans Administration hospital in Los Angeles. She enjoyed golfing, reading, oil painting and church outings.
Mrs. Bonner is survived by her husband, Chuck Bonner of Temecula; daughter, Meliza Jones of Knoxville, Ind.; son, Jerry Goble of Los Angeles; father, Rogelio Rodriguez of Aransas Pass, Texas; brother, Ruben Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters Doran Rodriguez of Aransas Pass, Rosario Wilson of Houston, Irene Stotts of Lakewood, Janie Bixler of California, and Sulema Robertson of Kansas; and two grandchildren.
Private services are planned.

SUN CITY -- Jo Marie Villagrana Lopez, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born Feb. 25, 1930, in Houston, she lived in Sun City for two years. She was a medical secretary for San Pedro Community Hospital.
Mrs. Lopez was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Lillian Veloz Villagrana. She is survived by her husband, Jesus M. Lopez of Sun City; daughter, Jessica M. Julian of Escondido; sons Jesus B. Lopez of Yucaipa, Joseph E. Lopez of Edmonds, James M. Lopez of San Pedro and Julius B. Lopez of Van Nuys; and three grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE - Hal Woody, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at his home of cancer.
Born March 26, 1930, in Los Angeles, he lived in Oceanside for three years. He retired in 2000 from Hal Woody & Associates. He graduated from Cal Tech Engineering. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Coast and Geodetic Survey and the Structural Engineers Association.
Mr. Woody is survived by his wife of 20 years, Lorraine Woody of Oceanside; three sons; three daughters; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Born July 4, 1910, in Zacatecas, Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 72 years. She was a homemaker for 64 years.
Mrs. Valencia was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Valencia, in 1988.
She is survived by her sons, Gilbert Valencia and Fred Valencia, both of Oceanside; daughters Alice Rodriguez and Mary Valencia, both of Oceanside; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

ESCONDIDO - Henry Patrick Fogerty Jr., 50, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, of a heart attack.
Born June 28, 1953, in Escondido, he lived there all his life.
Mr. Fogerty was preceded in death by his parents, Henry P. and Barbara K. Fogerty.
He is survived by his son, Michael Fogerty of Los Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Shannen and Chris Ebert of Lakeside; and sisters Anne Galindo of Prescott, Ariz., and Susan Fogerty of Escondido.

ESCONDIDO - Vera Manriquez Carrillo, 96, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003.
Born Nov. 30, 1906, in Santa Monica, she lived in Escondido for 43 years. She was a dietician for the Veterans Administration. She was a member of TOPS, the San Diego Historical Society and Friends of Carrillo Ranch.
Mrs. Carrillo was preceded in death by her daughter, Loretta Mangold, in 2002.
She is survived by her sons, Alfred Carrillo, Reginald Carrillo, Lorenzo Carrillo and Mel Carrillo, all of Escondido; daughter Phyllis Igo of Escondido; sister-in-law Dorothy Ormsby of Arizona; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE - Carleton Edson Evans, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Tri-City Medical Center in Vista of heart and kidney failure.
Born Oct. 20, 1919, in Brockton, Mass., he lived in Oceanside for 13 years. He retired in 1984 from Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. He was a member of Carlsbad Community Church, where he sang in the choir. He served on facility and maintenance committees.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his daughter, Janey Evans, in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Helen O. Evans of Oceanside; son Jeffrey Evans of Fallbrook; daughter Judy Tmboden of Lakewood; grandchildren Jeffrey Jr. , Joshua and Bulton; and one great-grandson.

VISTA - Lester A. Wieman, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born April 9, 1917, in St. Louis, Mo., he lived in Vista for 56 years. He was a traffic sign man for the county of San Diego for 15 years. He had been an avocado rancher in old Vista for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed squaredancing.
Mr. Wieman is survived by his wife, Joan Wieman of Vista; son James Wieman of Hollywood; stepson Richard Lawless of Temecula; daughter Rose Marie Wieman of Hollywood; stepdaughters Linda Miele of South Carolina, and Donna Nevins of Yonkers, N.Y.; and sister Blanche Hill of South Gate.

OCEANSIDE - Derrick Basil Smith, 91, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at La Paloma Nursing Home of complication of Alzheimer's disease.
Born Sept. 29, 1912, in Twickenham, Middlesex, England, he lived in Oceanside for 11 years. He retired in 1980 as a mining metallurgist. He served in the Canadian Army as a captain, in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe during World War II. He was a member of the Vista Elks.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and first wife, Clarice. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Ruth E. Smith of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Carl Duttle of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and Susan And Eric Klock of Snohomish, Wash.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Born Jan. 17, 1934, in Bell County, Ky., he lived in Escondido for 53 years. He worked for Harrah's Casino. He served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years, retiring as a first class petty officer. He worked for Pomerado Hospital for 18 years.

Born April 15, 1928, in Bloomfield, N.J., she lived in Escondido for two years. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary, Rancho Bernardo Post 7766, where she served as president from 1997 to 1998. She supported the Joslyn Senior Center.
Mrs. Hobson is survived by his son, Don R. Morelli of Rancho Bernardo and Robert Morelli of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Alena B. and Kris Brawn of Escondido and Linda R. and Don Jackson of San Francisco; sisters Florence Croll of North Carolina, and Mamie Coppolla of New Jersey; grandchildren Amanda, Sarah, Rebecca, Julia, Alex and Dustin; and one great-granddaughter.

VISTA - Jazmyn Lynn Maldonado, 46 days, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
She was born Aug. 20, 2003, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
Jazmyn is survived by her parents, Krystal and Jesus Maldonado of Vista; brother Angel Maldonado of Vista; grandparents Sara Estrada and Tassie and Chuck Dimmitt; and aunts and uncles Tim Campbell of Vista, Scott Campbell and Jordan Campbell, both of Pueblo West, Colo., Kalib Campbell of San Marcos, Jorge Maldonado, Javier Maldonado, Carlos Maldonado, Crystal De Anda, Rubi Torres and Pearl Torres, all of Escondido, and Juan Maldonado serving in the U.S. Army.

ESCONDIDO - Bruce John Brayton, 53, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Palomar Medical Center of liver and kidney complications.
Born Nov. 22, 1949, in Los Angeles, he lived in Escondido for 15 years. He was a PX stocker at Miramar Naval Air Station.
He was a baseball fan, especial the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Mr. Brayton is survived by his mother, Irene Robinson of Escondido; brother Warren Brayton of Milford, Neb.; and numerous cousins.
In accordance with the families' wishes, there will be no services.

MANCOS, Colo. - John Monroe Patten, 66, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Bonsall.
Mr. Patten is survived by his wife, Jeannie Patten of Mancos; sons and daughter-in-law John M. III and Tammy Patten of Oceanside and Chris Ray Patten of Valley Center; daughter Vicki D. VISTA - Lili Ann H. Cappen, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at her home.
Born May 12, 1919, in Sargeant, Neb., she lived in Vista for five years. She lived in Shelton, Wash., previously. She was a mobile home park manager for 30 years and most recently for Vista Royal Lodge Mobile Estates. She was an artist for 30 years. She was a doll maker and ceramic instructor.
Mrs. Cappen is survived by her husband of 30 years, Edward I. Cappen of Vista; daughters Kandyce Ericson of Fort Meyers, Fla., Kayleen Kaufman of Carmel and Kimberly Bottger of Scio, Ore.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.

Born March 24, 1927, in San Diego, he lived in San Marcos for six years. He served in the Merchants Marines. He was the founder of the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships. He enjoyed reading, dancing and traveling.
Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary Ann Bridges of San Marcos; stepdaughters Cheryl McDonald, Lauri Rogers, Susan Morales and Janet Blackmer; and granddaughter Amanda McDonald.

George Roberts Jr., 79
ESCONDIDO - George M. Roberts Jr., 79, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003.
Born Sept. 11, 1924, in Cleveland, he lived in Escondido for one year. He retired in 1995 as a general practitioner and psychiatrist. He graduated in 1949 from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He was in general practice for 20 years and practiced psychiatry for 20 years.
Dr. Roberts is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth M. Roberts of Escondido; sons George M. Roberts III of Pittsburgh and Hugh H. Roberts of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Carol R. and Robert V. Market of Pearland, Texas; and grandchildren Robynn and Philip Market.

John D. Nicely, 83
LAKE SAN MARCOS - John D. Nicely, 83, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, September 6, 1920. He married his childhood sweetheart, Erma Jane, in 1939.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, and spent 2 1/2 years in various South Pacific campaigns.
He was always proud to have been a Marine.
After separation from the service, he started a career as credit manager of a national sales organization, moved on to district sales manager and started his own distribution business. Later, he assisted in organizing a manpower marketing program for Woodman of the World Insurance Society, where he held titles of regional vice-president and vice-president and director of agencies. Subsequently, he obtained his Principals, Securities and Real Estate Broker's License and became vice-president for Sunset Life Insurance Co., which led to the opening of his own insurance and investment company in Anaheim.
John semi-retired in late 1970 and moved to Lake San Marcos. He remained active in dealing with securities and insurance and in local affairs at Lake San Marcos. He was a past president of Lake San Marcos Shriner's and Sportmen's clubs. He held offices in the Kiwanis and in the Lake San Marcos Yacht Club.
He was a member of Consuelo Masonic Lodge in Escondido; Scottish Rite and Al Bahr Shriners in San Diego.
John was a very special man, a true gentleman with a wonderful smile that would light up a room. He will be truly missed by his many friends and loved ones.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Jane.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Nicely; his beloved "Lady" Sandra Hangley; his former daughter-in-law Judy Peverieri and Leonard Peverieri of Bend, Oregon; cousins Helen, Vickie and Superior Court Judge, William Pate.
No service will be held. At the request of John, a "Celebration of John's Life" will be held at a later date.

Joaquin Munoz
SAN MARCOS - Joaquin Munoz, 68, died at Palomar Hospital on Monday, October 13, 2003. Joaquin was born July 25, 1935, in Bogota, Colombia, to the parents of Joaquin and Beatrice Munoz. He came to the United States in 1964, and for the past 10 years, has lived in San Marcos.
Joaquin is survived by his mother, Beatrice Munoz and his brother Nelson Munoz, who presently reside in Colombia. He is also survived by his wife, Gloria Munoz; his sons and their families, Carlos and Lisa Munoz, Javier and Pamela Munoz and Donald and Angela Munoz; and his daughter, Claudia Munoz-Kelly and her husband, David Kelly. Joaquin's four grandchildren are Brittany and Adam Munoz and Tavia and Austin Kelly.
A memorial service will be held at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary on the 17th day of October 2003 at 6 p.m. Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is located at 225 S. Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025.

Richard Kelly
Richard Kelly, 86, died suddenly of natural causes at his home on Saturday, October 11, 2003.
Born December 5, 1916, to Hilland Jesse and Edith Marie Kelly in Redondo Beach, he lived in California all his life.
Richard attended Oceanside High School for two years, but graduated from George Washington High in Los Angeles. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge 1561 Oceanside. Richard was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union 203 and was Superintendent of Work at several Camp Pendleton additions. Also at Tri-City Hospital and many other local and out-of-state establishments. He enjoyed golf, gardening and bowling and had traveled to Europe often during his lifetime.
Richard is survived by his wife, Julie and their daughter Jenny Kelly of Oceanside, a son Michael Lee Kelly of Beverly Hills and his wife Jane, twin daughters Julie Ann Rhoad of Vista and Edith Marie Styles and son-in-law Michael Styles of Yucca Valley. Also nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law in the U.K.
Visitation and prayers will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18th at Eternal Hills Mortuary.
No formal service will be held at the request of the deceased. Richard's ashes will be interred in a niche at the mortuary at a later date.
In lieu of flowers we suggest donations be made to the heart fund in his memory.
John S. Wade
A wake will be held in Baja, Calif., for my devoted and loved husband, John S. Wade. he passed away Oct. 5, 2003, in San Diego County. John was born at Paris Island, S.C., Nov. 9, 1941. He was 61.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, of 14 years. His two daughters, Denise (Wade) Ruburg, Diana Wade and her two adopted sons, Dustin and Jon Wade; his mother, Irene (Scotty) Ryan and Dad Keith Ryan; 20 katz; and four chickens.
Carmen Canchola (Hernandez), 91
Carmen Canchola (Hernandez) 91, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, of natural causes.
Born February 22, 1912, in Colora (now Alamogordo), New Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 80 years. She retired as a professional housekeeper. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Oceanside. She enjoyed her garden of flowers, cooking, reading and travel.
Mrs. Canchola was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Razo; son Benny Heredia; and daughter Dolores Moralez.
She is survived by her son, Wayne and daughter-in-law Wanda MacLachlan, both of Oceanside; daughters Margaret and son-in-law Lupe Fernandez of Maywood, Isabel and son-in-law Don Light of Texas, Aurora Sims of Garden Grove and Marta and son-in-law Paul Culpepper of Vista; and grandchildren Ron Anderson of Vista, Todd Anderson of Fallbrook, Sam Esparza of Oceanside, Duane Catlet of San Diego, Matt MacLachlan and Nick MacLachlan, both of Oceanside; and 22 other beloved grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. and rosary recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, Oceanside.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will be at Eternal Hills Oceanside.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a children's charity of choice.

Lillian Liberty Brown
Lillian Liberty Brown passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 12, 2003, at the Ojai Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit in Ojai.
She is survived by her two daughters and two sons, Mary Anne Davis of Oceanside, Howard Schultz of West Hills, Jack Schultz of Laguna Hills and Donna Dahlstrom Rabe of Ojai. She also leaves a large and loving group of extended family and friends. She was known and loved by many as Grandma Brown.
Lillian was born June 3, 1908, in Joplin, Missouri. She moved to Kansas City, where she met and married the father of her four children.
In 1939, she moved with her family to California. She soon joined the war effort and worked for many years at Lockheed in Burbank.
Upon her retirement, she returned to a small farm in Cave Springs, Missouri, where she lived until the death of her husband. At that time she returned to California, to be near her children and grandchildren.
Arrangements have been made by the Neptune Society.
