James Boyer, 76

FALLBROOK - James Edward Boyer, 76, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Fallbrook Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1929, in Hartville, Mo., he lived in Fallbrook for 17 years. He retired in 1984, from Rohr Corp. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Boyer is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Elaine of Fallbrook; son James Boyer Jr. of Riverside; daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Robert Schmidt and Nancy and Mike Schoonover, all of Fallbrook; brother Mike Boyer of San Diego; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Tom Seevers of La Mesa; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, July 28, at Christ the King Lutheran Church with the Rev. Phil Tukua officiating.

Maria Kirk, 87

OCEANSIDE - Maria B. Kirk, 87, died of natural causes, Monday, July 24, 2006, at her home.

Born April 6, 1919, in Philadelphia, she lived in Oceanside for 23 years. She was a homemaker. She was a remedial reading instructor at her parish. She wrote short stories and two children's books. She attended MiraCosta College.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond Kirk of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Jeffrey Kirk of Oceanside and James Kirk and Sarah Thompson of Edinboro, Pa.; daughters and son-in-law Eileen and Walter Lazaroff of Philadelphia and Cape May, N.J., and Donna Fulton of Santa Cruz; sister Theresa Gallagher of Oceanside; and six grandchildren.

Viewing and funeral service are scheduled for 1 p.m. today, July 28, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow.

Pauline Howland, 79

CARLSBAD - Pauline Abby "Polly" Howland, 79, died of cardiac arrest, Sunday, July 16, 2006.

Born June 20, 1927, in Eagle Rock, she lived in Carlsbad for eight years. She attended the University of Southern California. She was the founder and first president of the Covina Women's Club. She was the owner of Frontier Hardware Co. in Pasadena and Duarte.

Mrs. Howland was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton L. Howland, in 1997.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Cindy Howland of Temecula, Michael Howland of San Diego, and John and Hannah Howland-Clayborn of Walnut Creek; daughter Marie Howland of Potomac, Md.; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Pauline Kerr of Fullerton; and seven grandchildren.

Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena.

A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at SGI-San Marcos Community Center in San Marcos.

Shelia White, 50

SAN DIEGO - Shelia K. White, 50, died of cancer, Friday, July 21, 2006.

Born Sept. 20, 1955, in Oakland, Md., she lived in San Diego for 18 years. She was a licensed acupuncturist and had a practice in La Jolla and Kensington. She taught acupuncture at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine of San Diego.

She supervised acupuncture students in two free clinics, one for seniors and the other for the homeless in downtown San Diego.

Ms. White was preceded in death by her mother, Flora McConnell White, in 2005; and father Ronice S. White in 1976.

She is survived by her companion of 18 years, Chris Ziaskas of San Diego; brothers and sister-in-law Rightley and Sue White of Loudon, Tenn., and Ronald White of Dallas City, Ill.; and sisters and brothers-in-law Gaynelle and Phil Hardesty of Kingwood, W.Va., and Norma and Maury Hyde of Eldora, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29. Please call the family for details.

Chester Head, 52

ENCINITAS - Chester Head, 52, died of a heart attack, Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at General Atomics.

Born Sept. 27, 1953, in Glen Cove, N.Y., he lived in Encinitas for 13 years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1972 to 1975. He graduated from New York Institute of Technology, Palomar College and Studies in Technical Quality Assurance.

He was a blood donor for the American Red Cross. He was a choir singer and minister at the Order of the Ascended Rose.

Mr. Head is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Bill and Cheryl Head of Idaho, John Head of Maryland, Robert Head of New York, and Warren Head of Hawaii; and sisters Deborah Head of New York, and Leatrice Head of Virginia.

A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at the Order of the Ascended Rose in Encinitas. A private cremation is planned.

Alma Stocker, 91

MURRIETA -- Alma F. Stocker, 91, died Sunday, July 23, 2006.

Born Feb. 2, 1915, in Eads, Colo., she lived in Murrieta for four years.

Mrs. Stocker was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Stocker. She is survived by her son, John Stocker of Santa Barbara; daughter, Patricia Stevens of Murrieta; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at noon Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Goleta Cemetery in Santa Barbara. A memorial service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Richie's All-American Diner in Murrieta.

Eleazar Madrid, 67

MURRIETA -- Eleazar A. Madrid, 67, died of pancreatic cancer Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Jalisco, Mexico. He was a landscaper for 45 years.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Murrieta Valley Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 31, at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Murrieta. Interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery in Murrieta.

Maria Hernandez, 44

WILDOMAR -- Maria M. Hernandez, 44, died of natural causes Monday, July 24, 2006, at Inland Valley Medical Center.

She was born July 28, 1961, in Mexico. She was a homemaker for 25 years.

Mrs. Hernandez is survived by her husband, Louie Hernandez of Wildomar; son, Anthony Cortez of Fullerton; daughter, Denise Renteria of Fullerton; brothers Ralph Sanchez of Mexico, and Raymond Sanchez and Gilbert Sanchez, both of Corona; sister, Alma Johnson of Murrieta; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Murrieta Valley Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Calvary Chapel of Murrieta. Interment will follow at Wildomar Cemetery.

Filiberto Reyes, 80

TEMECULA -- Filiberto Pelaez Reyes, 80, died of natural causes Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Rancho Springs Medical Center.

He was born June 1, 1926, in the Philippine Islands. He served in the Philippine Military for five years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Reyes is survived by his wife, Leticia Reyes; daughters Catherine Reyes, Maria Cecil Reyes and Lesley Ann Reyes; and son, Ephraim Reyes.

A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today, July 28, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Temecula. Burial in The Philippines in pending.

Scott Shaw Osborne

Scott Shaw Osborne, Retired Master Chief Damage Controlman passed away on July 24, 2006, in San Diego, Calif., with soul-mate, Ana, and sons by his side.

Scott was born on October 5, 1942, in Fargo, North Dakota, and shortly after resided in Ponsford, Minnesota. Scott graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1960. Though Scott lived in San Diego most of his life he always called Minnesota home and remained a country boy at heart.

Scott was extremely proud of his service to our country. Scott served our United States Navy honorably for 28 years. Scott's distinguished career includes volunteering himself at age 17 directly out of high school in 1960. After bootcamp Scott served on the USS Alamo from October 1960 to September 1963, during which was involved in the Bay of Pigs blockade of Cuba. Scott returned to Minnesota for five years and worked all around northern Minnesota. Scott's father, Ben, and Mary Osborne were previous owner and operators of Ice Cracking Lodge and campground. During this time Scott realized his love of the sea and Navy.

Scott reinlisted in the Navy in 1968 and was immediately sent to Vietnam on the USS Catskill through 1970. Then volunteered to return to Vietnam on the USS Inflict from 1971 to 1972. The rest of Scott's career includes DATC FMACPAC, Long Beach from '72-'75, USS Dixie '75-'79, SIMA, San Diego '79-'81, USS Merril '81-'84, Senior Enlisted Academy '84, SIMA San Diego '84-'87 and the USS Denver '87-90. The last two years of service was in the reserve. Scott's Naval career included Bay of Pigs conflict, five tours in the Vietnam conflict and 17 West Pacs. Master Chief Osborne lead by example and had a tremendous impact on every sailor he came in contact with.

After retirement, Scott's good will continued with the successful ownership and operation of three residential care facilities for the elderly. Ann's Place I, II and III with wife Ana, which will continue to be operations through wife Ana and family.

Scott was master and commander of his domain and loved with a soft heart. Scott taught us love and love of our fellow man. We learned to walk with our chin up and shoulders back, to stand tall and walk through any adversity, to stay cool and watch our backs and to get all we can out of life.

Scott Osborne will be honored in memory as a fair, honest, decent, loving, husband, father and brother with good old fashioned values. These things will never be forgotten as the morals and values will be passed on by his sons.

Scott Osborne is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Ana; three sons, Robert, Joe and Jason; two brothers, David and Mac; and three grandchildren, Courtney, Emily and Jase.

Shirley Ann DeLucchi

December 26, 1929 - July 23, 2006

Shirley Ann DeLucchi, 76, passed away suddenly at home on July 23, 2006, in San Marcos, Calif., from complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was the eldest daughter of the late Esther and Emerson Ingalls. She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Uresti (Rudy) and Lisa Seiler (Bruce); seven grandchildren, Angela Yap, Michael and Jonathan Montes, Robin and Lauren Perenchio, Brian and Samantha Seiler; and four great-grandchildren with one more due in November. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Ingalls (Karen) of San Mateo, Calif.; her sister, Kay Ingalls of Mountain View, Calif.; and her longtime companion, Paul Weiss.

Born on December 26, 1929, in Glasgow, Mont., Shirley moved to California with her parents and brother at the age of 10. She lived in the Palo Alto and Menlo Park areas of Northern California, and was married to the late Fred (Bud) DeLucchi, Jr. Next, Shirley moved her family to Guadalajara, Mexico, and then eventually back to California, where she decided to settle in the San Diego area to be near her daughters. She had recently moved from Carlsbad, Calif., to Lake San Marcos, where she greatly enjoyed the peaceful lake and the many birds who came to love her as much as she loved them.

Shirley will always be remembered for her independent nature, her ease in making those around her always feel like part of the family, her feisty approach towards life, and her colorful sense of style. Although Shirley was quite tiny, you could always find her in the crowd with her stylish brightly colored hats accented with vibrant feathers and her enthusiastic laugh leading the way. She was also an astute businesswoman who successfully managed several real estate holdings throughout California. She enjoyed her gardens, reading, watching her lake birds, keeping in contact with her many friends, and most of all, spending time with her family. She will be missed tremendously by all of those whose lives were touched by this unique and spirited woman.

A memorial service with a reception to follow will be held on Friday, August 4, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 424 Via de la Valle, Solana Beach, Calif. Please wear bright, cheerful "Shirley colors." Arrangements are being made in conjunction with Eternal Hills Mortuary, Oceanside, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to TACO, Third Avenue Charitable Organization, a social service organization that provides help and support to seniors, low income and homeless persons in the San Diego area. TACO is located at 1420 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA., 92101.

June H. Daniels

June H. Daniels born September 22, 1922, died July 21, 2006, surrounded by her family, following a short illness. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a wonderful life traveling the world with family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved horse racing and was a horse owner for many years. She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her only daughter, Bobbie, and her "favorite son-in-law," Earl Lindholz. She had three grandsons, Greg Lindholz, Bryan Lindholz and his wife, Nanci, and Eric Lindholz and his wife, Colleen. She also had three great-grandchildren, Alexa, Tyler and Madelyn Lindholz. She is also survived by many family and friends in San Diego, Dallas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and her loving companion of 14 years, "Coco."

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of June Daniels to either the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund or San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care.

Orvil Hovdey

Orvil N. Hovdey, California land developer and father-in-law of Hall of Fame jockey, Julie Krone, died from complications relating to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, on July 24, 2006, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas.

At the time of his death, Hovdey resided in the nearby community of Olivenhain. He was 83.

Hovdey was born March 16, 1923, in Outlook, Mont., and raised on a farm near Plentywood, Mont. At the age of 18, he migrated to Southern California, and was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. His wartime service included 18 months in the South Pacific with the Air Transport Command.

After a career in the loan business that took the Hovdey family from Southern California to San Francisco and St. Louis, Hovdey entered the booming California land sales business in the 1970s. He managed the sales divisions of several noteworthy residential resorts - among them Bear Valley in Tehachapi - and eventually developed such commercial projects as an office building in Orange, Calif., the mobile home retirement community Heritage Park in San Jacinto, Calif., and a luxury residence on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii's Big Island.

An avid outdoorsman, Hovdey and his friends made numerous excursions to the California wilderness and to Baja, California, where Hovdey sponsored the building of a schoolhouse in the village of Punta Baja.

In the 1980s, Hovdey owned a small stable of Thoroughbreds and raced them under the name of Heritage Farm. He eventually disbanded the operation, but maintained a love of Thoroughbred racing while following the career of his son, Jay Hovdey, the executive columnist for the Daily Racing Form, the industry's leading trade publication.

In 2001, Hovdey's connection to horse racing deepened when Jay married Julie Krone, the leading female jockey of all time. In September of 2005, Krone gave birth to Orvil Hovdey's second grandchild, named Lorelei. In addition, Hovdey is survived by his grandson, Ed Hovdey; his sister, Beryle Young, and her daughters, Sally Young and Karen Young; nephew Travis Elsner-Young, and niece, Alisa Elsner-Young; his former wife, Elsie Erickson; and his step-daughter, Dr. Cheryl Geer. Hovdey was preceded in death by his youngest son, Edward Hovdey, in 1978.

A memorial service for Orvil Hovdey will be held at College Lutheran Church in San Diego at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, (details and directions at (619) 697-0733). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Orvil Hovdey's name to Tranquility Farm, a Thoroughbred retirement and rehabilitation facility with 501(c)(3) charity status, at P.O. James F. Hicks II

James F. Hicks II, age 55, a longtime resident of Escondido, passed away July 21, 2006. Mr. Hicks was born in Boston, Mass., but grew up in Fallbrook and graduated from Fallbrook High School in 1970. He was an EMT and ambulance driver for Connelly Ambulance in Escondido. This is where he met his beautiful wife, Terry Murray, daughter of General Raymond Murray of Oceanside. He worked for many years at Whispering Palms Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe as purchasing agent and supervisor. Later the name was changed to Morgan Run Resort.

His wife passed away in 1997 and Mr. Hicks retired and moved to Warrensburg, Mo., to be closer to his family. He was a life-member ELK (lodge 673, Warrensburg, Mo.). He enjoyed movies, video games, crafts and travel to visit family and friends. He was well known for his extensive Christmas displays.

He is survived by his brothers, Ted Strattard of Blue Eye, Mo., and John Strattard of Warrensburg, Mo.; his sisters, Theresa Hocter of Centerview, Mo., and Jane Gallucci of Garden Valley, Calif. He had many nieces and nephews. He was well loved and he will be sorely missed.

Mildred Gallagher, 81

MURRIETA -- Mildred "Billie" Gallagher, 81, died Sunday, July 23, 2006.

Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Minnesota, she lived in Murrieta for three years.

Mrs. Gallagher is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jamie Henderson of Temecula; sisters Ruth Lackner of St. Paul, Minn., and Lennie Elsted of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Country Villa in Murrieta. Private cremation is planned.
