A dog in the car was also killed
OCEANSIDE -- Two people and a dog were killed early Sunday morning after the car they were in crashed into a light pole and caught fire, officials said.
The accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near the intersection of El Camino Real and Mission Avenue, Oceanside police said.
Two men and a dog were found dead inside the car after firefighters put out the blaze, according to the medical examiner's officer.
Investigators have tentatively identified the men but are waiting for the results of dental record comparisons for confirmation, the medical examiner's officer said. The victims' families have not yet been contacted, officials said.
Investigators believe the car was northbound on El Camino Real when it crashed into the median, left the roadway and struck the light pole.
Several people called police to report hearing the crash and seeing the burning car, but so far investigators have found no eyewitnesses to the accident.
The car involved was a green 2001 Lexus IS300, police said.
Anyone with information regarding the crash or the car is asked to contact Officer Joe Torres at (760) 435-4930.
