OCEANSIDE ---- A teenage bicyclist struck by an alleged drunken driver in a hit-and-run crash in Oceanside died Tuesday, an Oceanside police officer said.

The name of the 18-year-old Bonsall victim had not been released as of Thursday morning.

Police said a passerby found the gravely injured teen on Sleeping Indian Road, and said he was placed on life support until doctors could harvest his organs for donation.

Oceanside police found a hubcap at the scene of the crash, a clue that led them to find and arrest the alleged driver, Hernan Gonzalez, 24.

Gonzalez is expected to be arraigned Monday, according to online jail records. Deputy District Attorney Garret Wong said prosecutors are reviewing the case to determine what charges Gonzalez will face.

Gonzalez remained at the Vista jail Wednesday night in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while driving drunk. He also has a hold by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Anyone with information about the collision to call Officer Mark Edgren at 760-435-4958.

Call staff writer Teri Figueroa at 760-740-5442.
