OCEANSIDE -- A mother and child were wounded in an apparent road rage shooting involving an off-duty San Diego police officer, an Oceanside police sergeant said Sunday.
The nature of the officer's involvement was not revealed.
The Saturday night shooting happened in the parking lot of the Lowe's home improvement store on Old Grove Road, said Sgt. Kelan Poorman.
A dispute between the motorists may have prompted the shooting, Poorman said, but he declined to provide further details.
The identity of the San Diego police officer was withheld, and authorities would not elaborate on how he was involved in the shooting.
The shooting victims were airlifted to a hospital and were expected to survive, Poorman said.
