OCEANSIDE -- A proposal to build 68 townhomes in the Loma Alta neighborhood is up for Planning Commission review Monday.
The project, dubbed Mesa Ridge, would be entirely three-bedroom units on the north side of Mesa Drive, between Foussat Road and Jibsail Street.
"We're not opposed to it," said Greg Root, vice president of the Loma Alta Neighborhood Association on Thursday. "But we want Mesa Ridge to be sensitive to the traffic," and pay for traffic-calming measures nearby.
Loma Alta, a neighborhood of predominantly single-family homes, sits on a hill just north of Oceanside Boulevard, overlooking the San Luis Rey Valley. Root said few residents know about the proposal.
"All of a sudden -- whoa, here it is," Root said. "There are not a lot of people who are aware of it, and it's going to have a big impact on the community."
The Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 300 N. Coast Highway.
