OCEANSIDE —— A man threatened to commit suicide Monday afternoon at an Oceanside indoor shooting range, forcing evacuation of the business and a street closure, police said.

Lt. Leonard Mata said the 28-year-old man walked into the Iron Sights Shooting Range at 618 Airport Road and asked to use the range.

Later he put a gun to his head about 1:30 p.m. in the front lobby and told the clerk he was going to shoot himself, Mata said. He said the business was evacuated. Police were called and Airport Road was closed.

Officers were able to talk the man into surrendering about 3:50 p.m., Mata said. He said the man was going to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

"There were no hostages at any time," said the lieutenant.
