A 79-year-old man died Saturday when he was hit by a car while walking his two dogs, San Diego police said.
One of the dogs also died.
Shortly before 10 a.m., Billy Don Viele was walking in the 10900 block of Rancho Bernardo Road when he tried to cross the street midblock, Sgt. Ray Battrick said.
An eastbound car hit the man and the dogs, Battrick said.
One of the dogs was killed but the other survived, he said.
Paramedics pronounced Viele dead at the scene, Battrick said.
The San Diego Police traffic division is investigating the crash, Battrick said.
