Cool coastal weather set a record in Oceanside on Sunday, and unseasonably low temperatures expected for Labor Day and beyond will soon extend inland too, according to the National Weather Service.

Oceanside Harbor peaked at 65 degrees Sunday, breaking a previous same-day record of 67 degrees set in 1999 for the lowest maximum temperature, the weather service said.

Strong low pressure and a deepening marine layer could mean slightly lower coastal temperatures for Labor Day, though the sun should come out by afternoon, weather service forecasters said. Coastal temperatures are expected to fall by a few more degrees through the work week.

On Sunday, inland temperatures broke 90 degrees in some places. But over the next several days, a morning marine layer and pronounced cooling trend are expected for inland areas, the weather service said.

Inland temperatures should hover around 80 on Labor Day, then fall and stay low for several days. By Wednesday, inland highs will probably be only in the low 70s, forecasters said.
