SAN DIEGO - A La Mesa woman who pleaded guilty in 2003 to stalking actress Jennifer Love Hewitt convinced a judge Friday to alter terms of her probation so she can download computer files with the help of a librarian.

Diana Napolis admitted stalking Love Hewitt over a three-month period in 2002, and was placed on five years probation.

One of her probation conditions was to stay off the Internet.

Napolis told Judge David Szumowski that she should be allowed to use a computer without going online.

The judge agreed and ordered the defendant to keep a log of her computer work for her probation officer.

"I don't want you sending e-mails to famous people," Szumowski told Napolis.

The defendant, who was arrested in November 2002, believed Love Hewitt, who now stars in the CBS series "Ghost Whisperer," and director Steven Spielberg were part of a group monitoring her life.

Prosecutors said Napolis confronted the former "Party of Five" cast member during a July 2000 appearance for a radio station in San Diego and sent a threatening e-mail to a Love Hewitt Web site.
