ENCINITAS - The county medical examiner's office released the names Monday of three teens killed when their vehicle crashed off of Interstate 5 early Sunday morning. A fourth victim remained hospitalized, authorities said.

Driver Omar Paramo-Cardona, 18, and backseat passengers Ismael Zaragoza-Paramo, 18, and Eliazar Paramo-Cardona, 13, died when their 1992 Nissan Pathfinder hit the back of a second vehicle south of La Costa Avenue and swerved off the roadway into several trees, authorities said.

A fourth passenger, 22-year-old Antonio Zaragoza, was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment of major injuries. He was listed in fair condition on Monday afternoon, a hospital official said.

The victims are believed to be cousins, a medical examiner's investigator said.

The crash was reported at about 3:14 a.m., when the victims' 1992 Nissan Pathfinder - which was speeding at about 100 mph in the southbound lanes south of La Costa Avenue - swerved to avoid a 2003 Lexus that was traveling at 65 mph, the highway patrol reported.

The Pathfinder hit the back of the Lexus on the left side and then swerved out of control across all of the southbound lanes and off the west side of the roadway.

The vehicle then went down a steep, 75-foot embankment and hit several large trees.

No alcohol or drugs were located in the vehicle and neither is believed to be a factor in the crash, highway patrol officer Tom Kerns said on Monday.

Zaragoza and Omar Paramo-Cardona were wearing seat belts; Zaragoza-Paramo and Eliazar Paramo-Cardona were not and were ejected, authorities said. All four are residents of the Linda Vista area of San Diego.

The victims had been traveling from central California and had been on the road for several hours, Kerns said.

The occupants of the Lexus - driver Abbas Amiraslani, 60, and passenger Sinin Amiraslani - were also wearing seatbelts and were not injured.
