SAN DIEGO COUNTY ---- San Diego County California Highway Patrol officers have arrested fewer drivers for drunken driving this Labor Day weekend than they did during the same period last year, the CHP said Sunday.
However, DUI arrests were up statewide compared to 2009, the CHP said.
Between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Sunday, the CHP arrested 49 people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, compared to 60 people during the same period last year, officials said.
Statewide, the CHP arrested 990 people in that same period, compared to 923 the year before.
The region has been spared any roadway deaths so far this weekend, the CHP said. That was also the case last year.
Statewide, six people were killed in vehicle accidents between Friday night and Sunday morning, the same number of deaths reported last year during that period, the CHP said.
