SAN DIEGO - Campus police at San Diego State University will investigate why an officer used a stun gun on a man who was riding his board on school property, authorities said Friday.

The altercation between two officers and skateboarder Josh Gandy, 21, was caught on a cell phone camera and posted on the video sharing Web site YouTube, prompting complaints from some skateboarders and students.

Campus police said a patrol officer stopped Gandy at around 11 a.m. Tuesday after he rode his skateboard through one of the main campus entrances. Gandy swore at the officer, got off the board, and began screaming, said SDSU police Lt. Robert McManus.

The grainy video images captured a scuffle between Gandy and the officer, which ended with a second officer stunning Gandy twice.

Gandy is not a student at the university. He may face misdemeanor charges for resisting arrest, McManus said.

The university police have been armed with stun guns for more than four years but rarely use them, McManus said.

Skateboarding is banned on the campus. Officers have issued 198 citations over the past two years.
