SAN DIEGO -- Plans are under way to build a 450-kilowatt solar energy system at Point Loma Nazarene University, touted as the first of its kind in San Diego.
SPG Solar Inc. has been selected to design and install the solar energy system that will ultimately produce 80 percent of the peak energy for six buildings at PLNU, university officials said Wednesday.
Construction is slated to begin in July.
The project, inspired by a student research venture, will be the first large commercial solar photovoltaic system for a San Diego university, according to PLNU.
