CANYON LAKE - City officials have posted signs around the lake warning of possible contaminated water resulting from run-off from the heavy rains that drenched the region over the weekend.

Between two and three inches of rain fell in the area Friday and Saturday.

"Anytime it rains that hard, it is possible for the water entering the lake to be contaminated," City Clerk Kathy Bennett said. "The signs are posted as a precaution."

The lake remains open, Bennet added.

Testing of bacteria levels in the water will begin today and the first results will be known within a day, Bennett said.

When water samples reach safe levels, the signs will be removed.
