The 14 police agencies participating in a countywide summer crackdown on drunken driving arrested 957 drivers for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a 16-day period, sheriff's officials said.
The arrests, which happened from Aug. 20 until midnight Monday, represented an uptick over the 934 arrests during the same operation last year, Sgt. Jason Rothlein said.
The federally funded DUI crackdown visited San Marcos, Poway, Escondido, Del Mar, Encinitas and Solana Beach and included extra officers and sobriety checkpoints to look for impaired drivers, the sergeant said.
