SOLANA BEACH ---- Deputies arrested two intoxicated drivers and impounded the vehicles of five other motorists at a Friday night checkpoint, a sheriff's sergeant said Saturday.
The checkpoint on North Highway 101 at Solana Vista Drive ran from 8 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Randy Webb said. Deputies stopped about half of the 736 vehicles that entered, he said.
Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Webb said. Deputies impounded their vehicles, and the vehicles of three people cited for driving without a license and two people cited for driving on a suspended license, he said.
Deputies also issued one citation for driving without having a license along and driving on expired registration, Webb said.
A federal highway safety grant administered by the state Office of Traffic Safety funded the operation.
