LAKE ELSINORE -- Supervisor Bob Buster secured county funds this week for the Boys & Girls Club in Lake Elsinore and the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve near Murrieta.

The Board of Supervisors approved both of Buster's funding requests during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Elsinore was awarded $50,000 to help the nonprofit organization offer a program called Smart Moves, which aims to keep adolescents off drugs. The money is coming from the county's community improvement fund.

Smart Moves is a nationally acclaimed program that helps young people resist alcohol, tobacco and drug use, as well as premature sexual activity.

The Lake Elsinore club, located in the Alberhill Ranch development, was opened in 2006.

The other funding request approved Tuesday sends $10,000 in community improvement funds to the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve's visitor center near Murrieta.

The money will be used to buy a container of medical supplies that will be stored at the center, which can be used as an emergency evacuation site if needed.
