TEMECULA -- A Quail Valley teen died Friday night when the reportedly stolen car he was driving rolled over and crashed after a police pursuit in Temecula, authorities said.
Ramiro Botello, 17, was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m. down an embankment in the area of Solana Way and Via Norte, according to a Riverside County coroner's office report.
About 20 minutes earlier, a Temecula police officer saw a car with no headlights on headed south on Margarita Road, said Sgt. Eric Albert.
The officer tried to pull the car over but the driver instead sped away and the officer lost sight of it near Solana Way and Via Norte, Albert said.
A few minutes later, Temecula police received a call of a car that had crashed in that same area. When officers arrived they found a Chevrolet Malibu on its roof with one person ejected, Albert said.
Police believe it was the same car that sped away from the officer earlier, Albert said.
Two teen boys in the car were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital. One had possible critical injuries and the other had minor injuries, authorities said.
Police said the Malibu had been reported stolen in Temecula on Tuesday.
