VALLEY CENTER -- One of two women speeding down Valley Center Road on off-road vehicles crashed and broke her wrist following a high-speed chase Wednesday afternoon, a sheriff's sergeant said.
A deputy spotted the two women about 12:45 p.m. racing south near Woods Valley Road at more than 70 mph, Sgt. Bob Niderost said. Neither was wearing a helmet, he said. Both are believed to be in their mid-20s and from the Rincon Indian Reservation.
The pursuit, involving two sheriff's patrol cars, lasted about 15 minutes and ventured off road for a stretch near Waash Road, Niderost said.
Deputies later lost sight of the two women, one of whom they believe fled toward the reservation, the sergeant said.
The other woman crashed in the 100 block of Paradise Creek Road. Deputies found her moments later, detained her and transported her to a local hospital, Niderost said.
That woman, who Niderost would not name, faces felony evading a peace officer and DUI charges along with a host of traffic violations for running red lights and stop signs, the sergeant said.
The off-road vehicles had not been registered as "street legal," he said.
