A 68-year-old Valley Center man who died Tuesday after crashing his truck on Highway 163 in Hillcrest had apparently suffered a medical emergency while driving, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at Scripps Mercy Hospital, authorities said.

He was southbound near Robinson Avenue about 12:45 p.m. when he lost control of his 2002 Ford F350, which veered off the left-hand side of the road, struck a guardrail and stopped in the center median, the CHP said.

Medics tried to resuscitate the man before taking him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

No further information was available about the man's identity or the crash Tuesday night.
