A 15-year-old skateboarder killed in a hit-and-run collision Friday in southeast Vista was identified Saturday as Lucas Giaconelli.
The teen lived with his family in Vista, according to the San Diego County medical examiner's office.
Sheriff's deputies are looking for a white, 1990s Toyota Camry with dark-tinted windows in connection with Giaconelli's death.
The medical examiner's office said the teenager was skateboarding with friends just after 7 p.m. near the intersection of Thibodo Road and Edna Way in Vista when he was struck from behind by the Camry, which was eastbound on Thibodo Road at a high rate of speed.
Authorities said Giaconelli was thrown from the vehicle into the roadway, and the Camry fled. The boy was pronounced dead at Palomar Medical Center at 8:12 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.
A couple of dozen people held a vigil at the scene of the collision Saturday night. The group's size prompted sheriff's deputies to respond to the scene to control the crowd, which could be seen from Highway 78.
Anyone with information about the Camry or the incident is asked to call 858-565-5200.
