The Julian Union High School District board is set to vote Monday on whether to move toward revoking the charter of Eagles Peak Charter School, one of the largest charter programs in the county.
The school board plans to hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. to vote on Superintendent Jim Peabody's recommendation to issue a "notice of intent to revoke" the charter of Eagles Peak, which is based in Vista.
The eight-year-old school serves nearly 2,000 students in San Diego, Orange and Riverside counties, catering to parents who mostly home-school their children.
At a meeting last month, the Julian school board decided to give Eagles Peak and the district more time to work out some of the school's financial problems.
If the board votes to issue the revocation notice, the district would need to hold a public hearing on the issue within 30 days. After that meeting, the trustees could vote to revoke the charter.
Without a charter, the school would not be able to operate, though school officials have said they plan to fight any steps toward closing the school.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Monday at the Julian Community Joint-Use Library, 1850 Highway 78 in Julian.
