Sycamore Academy to open Sept. 8 in Wildomar
WILDOMAR -- Sycamore Academy of Science and Cultural Arts, a charter school recently approved by Lake Elsinore district officials, is holding open enrollment for students for the upcoming school year.
The academy, which will be temporarily housed in the Renaissance Center on Clinton Keith Road, will offer classes for students entering kindergarten through the sixth grade. Classes are scheduled to begin Sept. 8.
The academy will use constructivism, a teaching philosophy that emphasizes student collaboration and encourages students to make their own discoveries.
Enrollment packages will be accepted this week at the following times and locations:
- Wednesday, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Mission Trail Library, 34303 Mission Trail
- Thursday and Friday, 2 to 5 p.m., Gables Oak Creek, 24875 Prielipp Road.
- Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Marna O'Brien Park.
Sessions also are scheduled July 13 to 18.
There is room for 310 students on a first-come, first-serve basis, according to the school's Web site. Students do not have to live within the Lake Elsinore school district boundaries.
In addition to the enrollment packets, parents should bring their children's immunization records, birth certificates, proof of residency and health reports.
Last week, school officials approved the articles of incorporation and bylaw changes required by the Lake Elsinore Unified School District, according to co-petitioner Richard Shepler.
The school district has no say in the operation of the charter school, but will oversee it to make sure it is run in an educationally and fiscally sound manner.
