MURRIETA ---- A pickup driver whose taillights reportedly weren't working led California Highway Patrol officers on a chase early Tuesday until officers flattened the truck's tires with a spike strip, authorities said.

Eduardo Villa, 23, of Ontario, was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence and evading arrest, jail records show. A passenger, 24-year-old Luis Villa, was not arrested, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

Officers said the chase started in San Bernardino County about 2 a.m., with Villa, who was driving a blue 1993 Chevrolet truck, refusing to pull over on Interstate 10, instead getting onto southbound Interstate 15.

Officers laid a spike strip for the truck, which came to a stop just north of California Oaks Road in Murrieta.

Authorities said the driver's speed reached 90 to 100 mph during the pursuit.
