RIVERSIDE - Anyone interested in running for the Wildomar City Council as a write-in candidate can now pull nomination papers.

Monday was the first day the papers were available at the county Registrar of Voters office, 2724 Gateway Drive, Riverside.

Prospective candidates must appear in person because office staffers must verify that a candidate is a registered voter before issuing the paperwork, said Rebecca Martine, the registrar of voters' chief deputy.

There will be five write-in slots at the bottom of the Feb. 5 ballot, which will list 14 candidates and questions asking if the area should incorporate and if the five-person council should be elected by district or at large.

The nomination papers and 20 valid signatures must be turned in by Jan. 22. Martine said write-in candidates should be careful to obtain signatures from residents who haven't already signed papers for five other candidates, because that would invalidate the signature.
