Okay class; get your pens and pencils ready.
Actually, a computer and e-mail address is all you need to complete this homework assignment, so I don't want to hear any excuses. (Am I giving off any indication that before I began my illustrious writing career, I was a high school teacher?)
The Shop Vista campaign has an assignment for you and everyone is expected to complete it for a chance to win a prize.
If you live in Vista or have visited this fair city, write an essay and you can win
In fact, your experience as a Vista resident just might win the grand prize since the topic is: "My Favorite Way to Spend a Day in Vista."
I would be remiss in my teacher duties if I didn't remind you that the only reward you need for completing an assignment is the reward of a job well done. Then again, it wouldn't be a contest without a handsome reward. The lucky winners will receive certificates for lunch or dinner at fabulous Vista restaurants or some other wonderful prizes.Your entrywill also be posted on the Shop Vista website-www.shopvista.biz —— so you can brag to all your friends and family.
Don't procrastinate: writers never do that (present company excluded). Your entry must be 300 words or less and emailed to info@vistachamber.org by September 1in order to be eligible for the contest.
Remember to include your name, address and phone number with your submission. Essays will be judged by the chamber staff and board members and the winners will be announced on their Web site on September 10.
n A model of good sportsmanship —— In last week's column you read about the Vista American Little League and their quest to find a baseball field to call their own.
Although they are struggling with the costs of maintaining their own program, they have reached out to help another group's dream come true. Vista American Little League is offering a $1000 donation to help RBV Little League with their expenses as they head off to the World Series.
A spokesperson for VALL said, "Some things transcend your own looming problems especially when it comes to children. We wish nothing but the best for RBV and we hope this small gesture will help in their efforts to bring the titlehome to Vista and back to North San Diego County."
Now that is how you teach kids good sportsmanship.
