We're at war with terrorists

"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." — Santayana.

Outside of prisons, the hotbed for recruiting "homegrown" Islamic terrorists have been (some) mosques. California, of all places, should know this with John Walker, Adam Gadahn and the Lodi group.

What better place to build a potential recruiting center than Temecula, less than 100 miles from the porous U.S. border, thus allowing core members of a potential terror cell, as well as teachers for conversion to radical Islam, easy entry?

Despite the best intentions of the "Kumbaya" crowd, one has to realize that we're at war with those using a religious cover for totalitarianism. One would think that a state so focused on individual rights would find unacceptable a group that subjugates women to mere chattel. Also slipping past the liberal crowd is that they are seen as the worst of the Western world's evils.

Regarding the New York City mosque, I have to go with the crowd against it. To the radical Islamic people, symbolism is everything. To have a mosque built near the site of their "greatest victory" means to give them a symbol of their conquest over the infidel.

Again, listen to what Santayana predicted.

Local physicians oppose quarry

It is not unexpected that Rick Kellogg (Community Voices, July 29), a quarry supporter, would ask his personal doctor about the quarry, only to find out that his doctor opposes the project. It is comical to then read a letter to the editor where Kellogg has the gall to slam his own doctor and the 100-plus like-minded physicians as being ignorant.

The physicians opposing the quarry include the Southwest Healthcare System's head of pathology, the chief of pulmonology, the head of the ICUs, the head of pediatrics, the current chief of staff, and many other experts, including cardiologists, oncologists, internists and family doctors.

We rely on unbiased data and research when we make decisions. We do not rely on comparisons between unlike projects and on data supplied by biased sources. We are all local. Look at sos-hills.org for a list.
